Speilberg confirmed today.

When they say that the MacGuffin was too "connected" I read that as "rehash". Like for example if you did another movie where the ark of the covenent was discovered and reopened. Other thoughts?

Ya beat me by a minute. These are the new quotes:
"George, Harrison and I are all very excited," Spielberg said. "We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones."
"Working with Steven, Frank, Kathy and the 'Indy' crew is like working with family," Lucas said. "These films are such great fun to make. I'm looking forward to reuniting with the team and starting this new journey."
The article also says that the filming will begin in June :whip:
Well, this are good news after the confussion of the AP article.

Now THIS is it! It makes sense now when Amblin said an announcement was coming this week. I think the confusion was because Lucas jumped the gun with that interview and they were waiting for The Hollywood Reporter to break the word. :D

I'm glad he decided to confirm it today. I was hoping he would say something after questions arose with the original report. Hopefully it can turn out as good as the original 3.

I read "connected" in the context of critics not liking it - perhaps it was a "movie within a movie" or something that deals with Islam.
Anyway- very glad to hear Speilberg has decided THIS is his next movie.
It's finally happening!!!! :whip:

My take is that Spielberg, who disliked ToD wants to do another movie just like Raiders and Last Crusade, which he and Ford really had fun making; whereas Lucas wants to take a risk and really mix it up again... Lucas of course was sort of left out with regards to the making of the original trilogy, with Spielberg directing.

Lucas doesn't like it either, which is too bad, cause it's the best one.

Based on what, was Lucas "left out"??

Spielberg disliked it from the beginning, the darkness was Lucas' idea and he jumped on the hate bandwagon after the fact. Spielberg dislikes it the most of the three, with Ford actually liking it for it's originality. Mainly, it was that the critics were very harsh on it, and Lucas responds to the critics. But the mention of the critics in the article of this thread is an obvious reference to Temple of Doom in any case.
Lucas was responsible for some story things, but wasn't involved in the actual production of the film, as he would have liked; he always looks lonely in the behind-the-scenes shots, and off to the side. He would fly back and forth between the states and the production while shooting was going on, he's been seen making excuses other than directing ability for why Spielberg shot/directed the film and not him, most of the back and forth developing a wacky action scene with Spielberg and Ford and everybody else left out Lucas, who has creativity of a less spontaneous kind.

In my opinion Lucas can't touch Steven when it comes to directing. Out of the original trilogy, the 1st one is my least favorite. Empire Strikes Back is the best with Return behind it.

And yet, working with Lucas helped keep Steven grounded and restrain him from indulging in many of annoying movie-making habits.

And the other films that are around the probable release date would never stand up against Indy. No way!!!
