View Full Version : Product loyalty
Will anyone by loyal to a product that supports Indiana Jones now that we know most of the licensing partners?
I was out running some errands early Sunday morning and wanted to stop and get breakfast. There was a Burger King, McDonald's and White Castle near where I was. I said to myself, "Burger King is supporting Indy so Burger King it is."
And this even before they've done anything. We already know there will be candy tie-ins and I'm sure there will be a soda. There's always a soda.
Will anyone now shop at a Hallmark store for their card needs?
And by this I don't mean buy the products or go into a store just for the Indy tie-ins but support Hasbro, Lego, Burger King, etc. either before or continuing after the Indy promotions.
I've already started. :D

I hate Burger King, but last night after I got off work I was too tired to come home and cook anything, so I decided that I might as well get acclimatized to Burger King food since I was going to go there when they had Indy stuff anyway. I still don't like their food, and I couldn't even finish it. So, I will not be eating there in the near future, and probably won't stop there again until they get their Indy stuff. I figure that other companies probably wanted Indy too, it's just that BK put in the highest bid.
Lucasfilm also has a history with BK. Burger King gave us the original Star Wars glasses.

Dude, do you work for Hasbro?
And FYI, an Indy fan's preferred nomenclature is noncommercial.

I'm trying to be supportive. Burger King is gonna be hard though. I have diabetes and their food isn't exactly in my "diet plan" ;)

I've been "supporting" Hasbro...if supporting means shelling out cash to Hasbro.

My girlfriend and I have already supported LEGO a lot these last three years!
In fact we're saving money as we speak for the upcoming line in 2008 ;)
I would support Burger King, if only they would open restaurants in Belgium...
Y'hear that, mr. King? Bel-gium!
:p

Oh, you really don't want Burger King inflicted on you. What would you call a Whopper in Belgium anyhow?

I'd rather eat my own skite than anything that Burger King has to offer... I don't care if Indiana Jones himself was handing it out for free...

Putting the King in actual NFL footage was a masterstroke.
. . . .and BK has (finally) announced that its getting rid of trans-fat.
Fries blow but the burgers were always tasty.

This kind of marketing really doesn't make any difference to me. I am not influenced to like Burger King more or less because of their tie-in. I will go there to get some kind of Indy stuff when the movie comes out, of course, but that will be the only time I'll care.
I base my decisions on things like... hmm, I'm hungry, McDonald's sounds good. McDonald's it is. Even if BK supports Indy. Who cares? All I want is the collector cup. lol.

Hehe... a Whopper would stay a Whopper of course.
But we'd call it 'le' Whopper ;)

I hope people don't mind the thread resurrections; I'm just going back and chiming in on some of the stuff I missed out on contributing to when I was just a lurker. I'm assuming people on a site devoted to an archaeologist don't mind digging things up... ;)
Anyway, I'm continuing to be "loyal" to those products I was already interested in; I'll also do the tie-ins to get the various Indy goodies, but I don't see that there's much reason to, say, continue getting a certain kind of food just because it went for a few weeks or months with pictures of Indy on the wrapper.
These promotions are just marketing agreements, and don't represent statements of affinity for the character on the part of the companies. They don't even have any permanence at all - look at the soda tie-ins for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. When the movie was in theaters there were Pepsi promos with the Drew Sruzan poster, etc., and just months later the initial batches of Last Crusade VHS tapes come out with an Indy-themed Diet Coke ad at the beginning. The companies themselves clearly don't exercise much in the way of ongoing loyalty...
