I don't know... it doesn't convince me... I'll wait to see the full dimension. The style reminds me too much the style of the covers for the last star wars comics, that I don't appreciate too much. That Shia with the sword seems a jedi knight! eheheh ;)

That cover was done by Steve Anderson. He does computer photo collages. He has done work for MANY Star Wars products. I checked his website and he recently added an Indiana Jones section to his portfolio. It says he is be adding 10 images from Indy IV soon! Surprisingly
he does not have that above image on his own site yet.

Maybe he'll fill up the painting with a few other character or with some more background elements that will render it more appealing to my (personal) taste... anyway regarding its starwars works, some of them are very impressive, others I like less, but, as I said, it's a matter of tastes. In every case I would prefere something more classic.. preferibly not photo-based.

That look on Indy's face is the most Indyish thing I've seen since marketing for this film has begun*.

So why is this shot on a comic book cover and not right over at the official website? (Alright, maybe it will be there...some time... The thing is just that I like this single shot of him even more than the three promotional shots released earlier...)

*You know...we've seen the whip, hat, the classroom he teaches in...we've seen it all. But what I see in this shot is Indy's heart and soul. He looks older and weary but young at heart, cool but in awe of something...and in his eyes the look of an educated ...swashbuckling raider of things lost...

btw: thanks Avilos and Sartorius for all the additional information.

We already saw that look and that eyes... it seems to be taken from the part of the movie shot in Hawaii.. I'm pretty sure that that particular expression is the one Indy has in the video of the first footage (called "Indiana Jones Comicon Preview", released on 7.27.07 in the official site), when he seats with Shia on what seems to be a truck or something. It's probably been used a photo on location of the same scene.

Purely by accident. Had my laptop in my lap, I shifted position, the screen tilted back and the image popped out. All I had to do was alter the brightness and the contrast. :)

The first one looks pretty cool, but it's just too darn small to see the detail in it.

I agree! Indy comic book covers, novels, movie posters, etc., should all be hand painted works of art. Something is seriously lost in my opinion with photo shop. The whole romantic side of the Indiana Jones movies reflecting back to the serials of the 30's or 50's( in the case of KotCS), just flies out the window with a photo shop collage.

Give me a Struzan, Dorman, or Amstel work of art any day over photo shop!

Are you serious? I think the world knows Indy can get it done....It's good that they are showing that Mutt will not be a puss in this film. Do you honestly think that Harrison would stand around and let anyone else get more action in an Indy movie than him? Honestly? Come on now.... Just say it...your fears are pointless :)

I know Ford can more than do it, but I'm not sure Lucas and Koepp feel the same. Remember: Frank Darabond didn't write Mutt Ravenwood - that character was added later when Speilberg had fallen in love with La Beouf.

I hope I'm wrong, but...

It is a great pic of Ford and he does look fantastic for his age, but still I'd prefer a hand painted work of art over a photo shopped collage. Photo shop is such a contemporary medium, and it just doesn't fit in my opinion with the Indy mystique. When I think of Indy, I think of a different era, and the works of Struzan, Dorman, and Amstel all reflect that time beautifully. If it was strictly a photograph with a border(like the old Indy movies on vinyl for kids) I guess I wouldn't have such an issue, but because it is done in the Struzan way...I don't see the point. If you want that look have an oil or acrylic painting done.

Well if you want to be practical, we've heard more about Harrison's fight scenes than Shia's - we've heard more comments on how great Harrison is in his fight scenes. We know of one fight scene involving Mutt...We've seen more photos of Indy in action poses than Mutt...

INDY'S GOT BEARD STUBBLE!!!!!!!!!! HOOOORAY!!!!!!!   :whip: :hat:

(And in case you guys haven't noticed, the sword Shia is wielding looks to be a Spanish conquistador's sword, which completely fits with the location of the skull temple. Maybe Mutt took the sword from some poor bastard who got wasted by a booby trap centuries ago. An image of a conquistador-armor-clad Forrestal springs to my mind here.

Plus: QUIT YOU'RE DAMN WHINING OVER TINY DETAILS LIKE THE KIND OF SWORD SHIA IS HOLDING! You guys really do sound like toddlers fighting over a spider-man toy that has the red paint slightly darker than on the cartoon shows! Ugh!

Looks great! But I do have one slight gripe: why is Blanchett's body inclined so drastically? She looks like she is about to tip over. It ruins the composition slightly... for me. I suppose she's leaning to look at something... because her arm is straight up and down... but it's a bit strange. Hopefully the title will cover her leg area.

Don't get me wrong though... incredible artwork. Kudos to Luke Ross, Fabio Laguna and Dan Jackson.

You got it man! This is a really nice poster!

I didn't know Hugh Fleming though used the Struzan style for his artwork? I thought he had his own unique look, nevertheless it's a great poster. I'm guessing it's done with acrylics and colored pencil, the go-to medium for all those apsiring for Struzan like quality.

BTW I agree Playmount, Cate is leaning a bit too much.

Yeah, evidently so. And it's not so unusual after all, I suppose. I do remember my brother got the Alien: Resurrection comic before the film was released.

I really hope someone here grabs a copy and posts about it soon, 'cos there don't seem to be any comic stores or decent book stores in my area of NM

And last I heard, Tyler Nelson was seen entering Skywalker Ranch and hasn't been witnessed since. :dead:

Comic book stores tend to get new stock in on Wednesdays. And I know for a fact that the one I work at does.

And what's shipping is noted as "TP" at the end, which I guessing means "Trade Paperback." Which would be both issues collected in one volume.

Either the trade paperback version or issue #1, yes. The "TP" at the end confuses me as that must mean Trade Paperback, which would be both issues in one book.

But it's more logical that it's the first issue only.

I disagree. The film adaptations of the Indy trilogy from Marvel in particular were actually good by comparison to others, as they were properly fleshed out with narration boxes and thought-baloons, something which is prettymuch entirely absent in other film adaptations. And the adaptations were well-paced between the three-or-four issue mark. LC's adaptation was four as opposed to Raiders' and Temple's three.

But unless the KOTCS adaptation is in two, 30-40 page books, we're looking at an adaptation that amounts only to storyboards with the occasional bit of dialogue thrown in, moving at a breakneck pace with zero development. I really hate that.

Well, it's been awhile since I've read them, but I remember the artwork, save for the covers, was lacking to me. I was a kid though, fresh from the theater and with probably unrealistic expectations for the comic books to match what I saw on the screen.

I actually picked up the TOD and Raiders Marvel Super Special mags a week ago on eBay, so I'm going to give them another go. :)

Dark Horse also took the third and fourth chart positions, with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trade paperback and Hellboy Vol. 8: Darkness Calls, helping them continue their recent strong Market Share performances of 6.30% Unit Share and 8.11% Dollar Share."

I'm generally only interested in the comic adaptations for their minor deviations from the film. It's a nice way to glimpse what the original script contained, and once upon a time, was one of the only ways to do so (along with the novelization).

For example, it's interesting to see Spalko tell Indy that the Area 51 crate has his name on it. (Which is why he should know what crate she's referring to.) This ties in to the way the film was initially marketed online.

Hehehe... yes that's true!

Anyway, in my opinion the comic adaptation is really poor - not to say horrible. Especially if compared to some wonderful work of art that the Dark Horse have delivered us in the past (I adore the graphics and the colors of FOA comic).

Colors are really stupid in KOCTS comic and the drawings aren't so good. Harrison looks really much older and actually, as someone else said, it all seems made up in a hurry...

More than that, can anyone explain to me why there are certain more or less relevant differences between the adaptation and the movie, usually without any need (for instance, the different "UFO" at the ending or the different Indy gear in the warehouse scene - with jacket)? Can it depend on the fact they've prepared the comic without seeing the movie???
