Why not?
We have already had a knight from the first crusade walking around in the flesh.

Mutt's carrying a pen-knife AND a sword. Shame he doesn't realise you can't stab a skeleton, can you?!?

All hail King Skeletor! :dead:

Seems the Crystal Skull comes with a complimentary skeleton, ergo it must be the remains of a dead alien as some have speculated.

Notice how the description of said figure is literally "crystal skeleton".
An entire skeleton...made of crystal?

It really makes me wonder if the actual crystal skull that the title alludes too is literally part of something more...

Yeah,I was thinking the same thing.Looking back on it,It would seem kinda wierd for 'normal' bones to have JUST a crystal skull.

I think... the crystal skull has to be re-attached to the crystal skeleton which sits on a throne somewhere in the "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Possibly it comes to life when you bring it back together?

Or maybe something else happens?

Either way, it just says "figure" not "action figure," which leads me to believe it is merely a crystal skeleton sitting on a throne... very much dead.

Who says the crystal skeleton is the actual skeleton of an alien anyway?

I like the idea of the skeleton being a puzzle,As for it coming alive..That I really doubt.Maybe when the skull is attached it activates the thing that is on top of the temple in the Lego set.Who knows???

One question..Why does everyone think the skeleton is going to come to life and engage in a sword fight?

WhipItGood

With the phrase 'crystal skeleton', it's quite possible that such a figure is not "remains" at all, but rather an archeological artifact -- a decorative or ceremonial scultpure or construction for some kind of temple, altar or throne room. Like the jackal figures in the Well of Souls, the Skeletal figure in ToD, etc.

Point being: as "common" as existing crystal skulls are in the real world, no one seems to believe they were ever actual skull remains -- few agree on their origins, except for the fact that they're artifically created by someone somehow.

It is sounding a bit more like perhaps the scattered skulls must be returned and restored to their place of origin (maybe matching crystal skeleton figures) to make... something happen. And the effect might not at all be to jump up and start a sword fight.

Well, that just about says it. He's alive!!!! Anyway, I think this whole crystal skeleton thing is great, mostly coz it's different. The skulls in "The Phantom" went without matching skeletons, so I really don't know to what to expect from the Crystal Skull now. Maybe you join it together and it turns into a crystal Ronald McDonald who hands out Mcmuffins. Lucas fooled everyone into thinking Indy was after a McGuffin...

Did I say it coming to life would mean it fights? ... maybe it shows the way to something, maybe it's all powerful and can destroy things in a whim or protect things, maybe it brings about the spirit of something deceased into it... maybe it causes something to happen to the temple it's in... who knows.

But I don't think it would come to life either.

Maybe this "crystal skeleton" does come to life when the skull is put onto the body... but then he picks up a dusty sword and says (in perfect English), "I'm a skeleton -- MADE OUT OF ****ING CRYSTAL!"

And then slices Shia in half before the 5th "No!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IXCK1EyP4s) makes it past his lips.

Sweet.

If you’ll remember, with those last set photos, there was a mention about how the ground had natural crystals scattered around. I was thinking that, perhaps, this skeleton (and probably others) were once made of bone, but over time they were dripped on and soaked up minerals from the soil until the calcium was replaced with some sort of crystal. Think of it in the way that of how fossils turn from bone to stone over time. As far as how it looks - I’m envisioning something like is found in the Indiana Jones and the Lost Treasure of Sheba book:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51A3kRl7NGL._AA240_.jpg

I think there’s a two page spread of the bony queen on her throne on the inside. I haven’t seen this book in years and years, but it was always my favorite cover.

I think that there is going to be a few crystal skulls but the "Hard to Get" one is going to be the Alien style skull we've seen on the poster. I think most likely, it will be that skull placed onto the waiting crystal skelleton, which will either revive the alien like the guy in the end of the rejected Monkey King script or activate the thing on the top of the temple..

In fact I can see the end of the monkey king translating well to what we've seen so far. What if Indy and gang beats the russians to this temple and they fortify it and fight the russians. Theres the natives in the lego set, plus a few living skelleton warriors could easily take the place of the gorrillas.

I'll have to read the Saucer men script tonight, since people say alot sounds similar, i think they could have basicaly just combined those 2 rejected scripts and fine tuned them.

The Saucer Men script is like the Ark. If you look inside it, you'll either explode or your face will melt.

OK, so maybe it's not THAT bad, but it's bad...if you read it, only read until the wedding...then it's all downhill from there.

Here's a real crystal skeleton:

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/GretheB/crystalskeleton1_ATM.jpg?t=1200082616

The above well preserved skeleton is of a woman in her early 20s, a ceremonial offering in a Maya cave in Belize: the Actun Tunichil Muktal (=Cave of the Stone Sepulchre). She's a crystal skeleton in the meaning that she rests in a limestone cave and the bones are completely covered with calcite crystals. Her nickname? The Crystal Maiden. How she was sacrificed? With a jade knife found near her remains.

Let's theorize a bit: we have calcite, let's add potash (source: from a nearby long died out camp/ceremonial fire) and sand (look at the ground). Expose to pretty intense heat and what would you get? Given the right mix and sufficient heat: a skeleton made of (more or less transparent) glass. The whiter the sand, the more transparent the glass. Brown sand would give a colored class; the brown hue is often due to oxidized iron (=rust) and iron gives glass a green tint. Traces of cobalt would make the glass blue.

Also have a look at this:

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/GretheB/pots_on_KotCS_set.jpg?t=1200082699

I think we may assume that the set designers have been inspired by sites like Actun Tunichil Muktal or an equivalent before they made the KotCS sets.

How is this a pretty big spoiler? We already knew there would be a crystal skull skeleton because of the LEGO photos...

WhipItGood
01-11-2008, 04:51 PM
From what I read about the LEGO revelations, the consensus was there would be skeletons with crystal skulls, not a crystal skeleton in its entirety. I'm not saying it's a giant leap forward in spoilerdom, but it's different confirmed news that what we knew before in general.

If the LEGO sets show skeletons with an embedded crystal feature in the skull alone, they don't seem to be representing entire crystal skeletons in those photos. All depends what this eventual action figure looks like by comparison.

Why not? Yeah. I've been waiting for an ancient skeleton to get up off its throne and start tossing defilers around the crypt for some time now. Classic example: Conan The Barbarian. I was so sure the old king was gonna get up and thrash Conan's ass, but, he just flopped over all sad, instead. In the novels and comics, Conan had to Fight for that sword.

Skeletor put up a fight in Masters Of The Universe, but he's all muscular from the neck down, so that's kinda cheating the tradition of skeletal fighters. :)

I mean, it wouldn't be that much farther out than the other films or, really, anything Indy.
