Well, I get bored a lot, procastinate and it's been raining a lot lately, so very hard to do much. The Raven, emails and Youtube. Not much interests me on the net. I read a lot (believe it or not), I write when I feel inspired and I help Mum with the house chores and I've been catching up with the TV shows I missed while I was away in countryside Victoria, doing work experience on a particular popular Australian-Canadian children's TV show in the Second Unit. My first true adventure in a lifetime. Despite the bird-eating spider that lived in the bathroom that I wasn't allowed to kill, I would do it all again.

Violet Indy
02-18-2008, 11:55 PM
Yeah, it's true. They live out in the bush. Big spiders, that really eat birds and large bugs. Remember, I'm really, hugely scared of large spiders particularly. I was staying over at the 2nd Unit's DOP's place for the week whilst doing work experience on set and the spider lives behind the sink cabinet in the bathroom. It'd pop up every time I came in to wash my teeth at six in the morning. I would shake so much in fear of it biting my butt while I sat on the toilet. :dead:

It scared the crap out of me so much that I didn't wash my hair for three days and timed my bathroom visits, so I would need to go to the toilet, wash my hands/ brush my teeth/ take a very quick shower all at once, in which would involve me running from the bathroom in a towel to my room which was next door! Don't ask how many times I woke up in a cold sweat thinking the thing was in my bed.....

What made it worse, was that the DOP thought it was hilarious! What was more nuts, was the fact the guy had bug spray and you know, he never bothered using it and referred to the blasted spider as a "pet". His wife felt the same way as he did. She called the spider, "Miss Muffet." You have no idea how good it was to come home to a family who hates and kills spiders as much as I do. :gun:

I think we all have hatred toword spiders in commen! Words can't describe my fear/hatred of spiders. They are sick, nasty, ***** creaturres. Which is weird for me because I had a pet snake once (escaped), and always caought various reptiles in Texas, even tried to go after a water mocasin. But the sight of a little/big spidwer scurring across the floor sends me to the closest slolid object, with which I hit the spider with. And whenever my mom/grandma need something from the outside shed outside I always try to widdle out of it, because of the spider webs and spders lurking in ever corner and on the ceiling of the shed (makes it worse because my head hits the ceiling!) so yeah we have spiders in Alaska :(

@AngieAki- I would have done what you said, but I was out in the middle of nowhere and the local hotel would have been no better, so it was either live with it and do my week of work experience or go home. So I can say officially I suffered for my art. It wasn't easy, so I'm kind of proud that I worked around my fear and am now just a bit better with spiders. Not much better, but better and more willing to kill than just scream and jump around.

@ WillKill4Food- I would also have done what you said, but as a guest, you don't insult the host by killing his "pet."

@Niteshade007- I didn't see it eat a bird, but I know what that type of spider looks like, so I knew it was a bird-eater. So I'm happy that that didn't happen. Besides, don't let that put you off Australia. You just avoid the dumpy little countrytowns and you won't ever face a bird-eater. The only spiders that are really dangerous is the Redback (small spider, about the size of a Daddy Long Legs but blacker and with a very red stripe on their back, I have actually killed) and the Funnel-web spider (lives in logs mostly, and makes funnel shaped webs, rather than a conventional web). They are the most venomous in the world, but if you were to go to Sydney, or even where I live, you wouldn't have that big a problem.

Snakes are venomous here, but again that's in the Outback, not in Sydney or where I live or in Melbourne. Hey, if a huge spider/snake/big bug/rat phobic like myself can live her whole life so far here, you could live through a holiday. Just buy bug spray as soon as you arrive at a hotel, just to be sure.

Haha, thanks for the advice, Violet Indy. I took a zoology class in high school (don't know why, I hate animals. I suppose it was better than the alternative, physics), but it seemed that all the deadliest animals lived in Australia. Wonder why.

Violet Indy
02-20-2008, 04:55 AM
I would guess the harsh weather conditions. You have to be pretty tough to live out in the Outback so the animals would have to be pretty tough and dangerous to live out there too. We don't have zoology classes down here. They kind of attach zoology as part of biology down here, but I didn't take any sciences. Only Maths B, which is a scientific strand of maths. All my other courses were all very English-based (hence why I'm terrible with numbers). Knowledge of spiders and snakes is sort of passed as general primary (or as you would say, elementary) school knowledge. We're expected to know what a redback looks like at the age of six.

OMG it was so scary. When I went to Seattle in November we had to go through this park and there were tons of homeless people. They were calling us names and doing drugs... it was scary.

Speaking of homeless people, I was talking to this guy at school who was telling me that he wanted some day to go to the bridge coming into town and atatch a sandwich to a fishing line and throw it over the side and see how many homless people fight for it.

Seriously, I'm in the same boat with Deckard. I am terrified of spiders. I try not to kill them when I find them in the house but instead capture them in something and let them out side. its not their fault when they get into our houses, their just looking for shelter-but believe me, its no easy task. Like I said, I'm terrified of spiders.

That whole Bird Eating Spider is pretty crazy. I've never seen one in real life and I dont care to.

One of the worst spider stories I have is one that took place last year. I was helping my dad move the contents of our wood pile to a different location and we found that the pile had become home to hundereds of Black Widows. They were all over the place.

Oh dear. Honey, home haircuts are rarely a good idea. I did a similar thing when I was twelve. I thought my bangs were too long and instead of asking to go to the stylist, I trimmed them myself. "lol, how hard can it be?" thought I.

I've actually called in sick to work this evening because I have so much to do. That was about two hours ago and I still haven't done anything, but I'm very bored - which is why managed to clock up a post-count of double digits in one day. I rock!

In my endless boredom (actually it's more procrastination) I'm toying with the idea of starting a 'Hottest Male IJ Character ' poll, but don't want to step on any toes. Whadda' think?

So summer is here. So who's still bored?

^Well that was a while ago...

So late fall is here. Who's still bored?

I awoke very, very... very late today when I decided to wash away my sleep in the shower. Eventually, I made my way down the narrow staircase, lined with pictures-some I remember, others I don't. When the time came where other people normally eat their dinners or suppers, depending on their terminology, I ate a blend of left overs from the great night previous, and then proceeded to hang around doing nothing much in particular except wandering the enormous halls of the 'Epic Web', which leads me to now: 2:25 am, Sunday morning with a dark, silent night over the cities fringe where this thread surfaced into my thoughts.

Just thought I'd bring back the ol' club. Strike up the band!

It's summer here and I have just finished my final year at Film School. And I'm graduating! I'm so happy I passed everything. It was such a hard year. So now, I'm just recovering from the year. I produced two films (one short about 6 mins long and a documentary about 20 mins long) this year with all the other assessment on top of that (and the laziest crew ever on the short). I really wasn't well near the end, I had to go to the doc's and it is the doctor's order that I rest for the next couple of weeks (apparently my ails are stress and tiredness related).

But hey, I'm cool now. Christmas is coming, and the graduation ceremony is certainly something I've been looking forward to all year. So I guess there's some happy times ahead in the short term at least. I'm kind of bored but at the same time, I just need some time to heal. Some time to party would be good medicene too. :p

Thanks. Summer and Christmas is alright together. I've never had a White or Winter Christmas, so I guess I'm just used to it. It's always fun watching the American Christmas movies with all the snow and watching it in shorts and with the air-con on. :p Btw, I watched Christmas Vacation for the 20th Christmas in a row (watching that film is kind of tradition for us).

I guess our Christmas Eve meal is different too. We have cold shaved ham off the bone and shaved turkey breast with cold salads, cheeses and stuff (the tradition for a lot of Aussies is to have seafood and barbeques). Though Christmas Day is when we have the roast turkey meal. God, I'm hungry. I'm a huge turkey fan, but they never have the real stuff in store, it's always the frozen cardboard box stuff that tastes like rubber. Christmas Eve and Day have the best meals and left-overs of the year.

Boredom is a friend of angst
they typically drop in on you
And usually over stay their welcome

They're the type of friends you have and are obliged to keep
But never feel like calling
They're the type of friends that are feverishly obnoxious
And don't have a clue when to leave

When I pulled out this thread again they got offended and left
I'm sure it wont last though
Because when they invite restless over
They decide to make a night of it

Driving home tonight, I was listening to "Short Round Helps" off of the Temple of Doom soundtrack of course.

I noticed up ahead that there was something in the road, something dead. It was a possum that was just destroyed (poor guy). Seeing how brutal it looked, I gave a little *eeeek face.* So what makes this story worthy? That small town
Adrift from time

It sat at the river's edge
Where silently the water held the shimmering moon
Against a backdrop of the East where I wanted to go - solo

Like standing under the still orange corner store lamp
Or walking the quite railroad tracks,
Dark in the single digit morning

Old brick buildings with boarded up nooks
Ally ways decorated with ancient plastered posters
A bottle of strawberry Sobe in my hand

This reminds me of another place,
But here's where my mind thinks of the black haired girl

I knew her,
But she never knew me
And never will

She is only a memory

Of the unreal and true

A Day In The Life

Violet Indy

Hey gear, at this rate with your poetry, you probably could make a whole book of poems with boredom as the theme.

Here's why I'm bored. I have graduated from film school as you know so I guess this is a time of many changes. One, friends moving to different parts of the country (or international friends going home), friends moving in with boyfriends, friends moving away to study elsewhere and friends who just live too far away. I don't have any friends that live locally anymore which is a real shame coz I can't just see them over the weekend or go out with them anymore. It's a big operation just to spend a couple of hours with them. And I still don't have a boyfriend or any potential dates. Other than my brother, I don't have any relatives close to my age to hang out with.

And I have done everything you can do on the Gold Coast (theme parks, water parks, video game arcades, beaches, casinos). On top of that, my best friend's in hospital, getting an operation today on her arm, she has multiple fractures from a workplace accident and is getting a 5 inch pin in her arm. So what can I do other than work? I worked extremely hard all year right to medically recognised exhaustion and anxiety attacks, so this is the time for me to relax and play. But how can I play if all my playmates have left and too busy with their lives, which is fine, but I'm kind of left out in the cold.

Hah ha, and starve. :p

I can really relate to your first paragraph. I moved away from my old town to the city, away from friends. We too have a hassle meeting up. However, with winter break on it's third week (one of those due to a recent snow storm) we're relatively content having no school.

Ah, but I got a [new*] computer so my ties with civilization are still [somewhat] connected.

And then there's the dog who's looking at me expectantly inviting me to scratch her belly.

Boredom does occasionally set in, but I usually drown it with coffee and music or whatever.

It's all good.

Was a restless Leather Tramp
With nothin in my pocket 'cept some lint and a quarter buck

Found myself in Double Bell, Kansas
Where the wheat don't grow under nothin but plain's sky

Wandered into the Americana town
And got in trouble with the police man

Ended up sitting in a wooden chair
At this buckshot patty station

When the sheriff lit his smoke
I grabbed my coat and reckoned it was time to go

My boots nearly set fire
Running down the road singin 'Helter Skelter'

Down passed the drive-in picture
Found a Mexican with a van through chance encounter

He floored his pedal and kicked back gravel
And cut the night with our maniac laughter

I woke in the morning when kicked out the door on my back, in the dirt
I'm still not sure why; no Espanol, Senor

When he sped off in a furry of dust
I sat up and took a look for myself

Heard a guy playin a twang heart, slow drawl 3 note riff
And in the opposite direction, saw non less than you'd expect

A slow revolving windmill and old picket fence
Property of some daddy's farm...

I'll take all my time
Writing you a rhyme

Why do I insist
On telling you all of this?

Caffeinated since today's birth
What is it I'm worth?

Reminded of all that's wrong
Crafting a ghey little song

Is it a stupid crime?
Well, forget it-nevermind

How do I say
All I feel today?

Sometimes it's hard to say
Because the words get in the way

Eyes and skin like a dream
I know I'm not quite much for that sort of thing

Tomorrow's new
Tomorrow's new and so are you

Today I don't feel quite as lame
Sitting drinking aspartame
Put on my yellow shirt and favorite jeans
Made my coffee with regular flavored beans

And spring is hovering in the air

Before the hop plants had fully grown
Grey sky and deep green trees
Songs and incense and broken lavatories

And spring, she hovers in the air

Night comes creeping
Over violet sky
Soft orange orbs glow their way for no one
Bare and thin trees grip one another with quiet care
And their ever green siblings line the fringe
Over which night falls heavier
And emerging from the distant scene
A towering steel mammoth stands dormant
It’s red beacons watch us
But it too becomes drenched in silhouette
And all has melded into a black abyss
Now night has crept
Over violet sky

Underneath the time swept shelter
Sitting on the brow of a two wheeled trailer
Surrounds a garden of broken glass and eaten fences
Starring at the desolate, molded tracks

A white wooden spire’s backdrop,
A peak and fringe of beauty and shrillness
The haunts of a perturbed drifter

I wrote my bachelor's thesis on psychoanalytic criticism and Shakespeare's Hamlet. But why do I post that here?

Violet Indy
08-18-2009, 05:20 AM
Ok, I'm bored. I don't have any poems to share (it's not that I don't write poems, coz I actually do, I sure don't know if anyone would want to read them for starts), anyway, I'm wanting to take up a hobby (preferably one that's social rather than a solo thing) but the problem is that I really don't see what people my age do with their lives (other than facebook, which I really don't like and being online). I'm not really the surfing type (which too bad, coz I live in one of the best places in the world for surfing) and I'm at that point in life, where high school friends and even uni (college) friends are moving on (and so am I) with careers, education, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. Sure, I do like clubbing but have struggled getting friends along for the ride (even on my 21st, it was hard. Two thirds of my guests didn't even get on the dance floor at all during the night and then, left with friends of theirs who happened to be junkies).

So I really just need a new outlet that's fun and can meet people (not creepy people of course). I have tried latin dancing in the past, and it wasn't successful. The class was full of couples, more women than men and mostly older, like in their 30s minimum. Let me also clarify, that I'm not looking to play the field exactly, so this isn't about dating or loneliness or whatever.

Are you artistic? Maybe take a few art classes. Painting, life drawing, etc. That could be a good way to meet people AND learn some great new skills.

Acting/theater is another great way to meet people because all you do is interact with others. And it could be very fun also.

Do you have a job? Maybe volunteer somewhere?

Violet Indy
08-19-2009, 04:47 AM
Been down both roads. I did art classes when I was lot younger (outside of school) and the problem there was the age group. A lot of older women (as in 50s and up) tend to take those classes and sadly, theatre's very similar (plus the egos of people who never got anywhere, but think they're brilliant nevertheless). I think it's the place I live more than anything else. Late teens and early 20's are just not proactive unless they're part of a religious youth group or they club. Maybe things are different in the US. At least, it seemed to be when I was there.

I'm a volunteer and now a year member of Rubberoom- Australian Screen Industry Network (http://www.rubberoom.com.au). I'm the raffle girl (and yes, I did win a prize last networking night, but it was because the owners' knew my 21st was coming up). Rubberoom's on bimonthly so it's what you do between now and then, that becomes the thing. However, I am looking forward to the masquerade ball in October, so I'm hoping I might be able to help out with that.

As for work, well, unfortunately, I've been made redundant because the business I was working for lost contracts and coz I was a casual, I was ousted, though my bosses really weren't happy about it- they really wanted me to stay, coz I was actually good at my job. They promised that as soon as work would pick up, I would be the first back in the job. At least 10 others (full timers even) got the boot or jumped ship early. So now, I'm between jobs, with some opportunities I'm waiting on hearing back from (some industry stuff, some regular stuff). The recession is certainly a buzzkill for a graduate.

Thank God there's such thing as the dole in Australia. At least, it will help with the car issue and to pay the bills.

A poem I wrote a little while ago. "Frustrations of an Artist".

As if the frustrations of an artist
Aren't enough to exorcise,
I am constantly patronised
for choosing to follow my heart
Instead of counting numbers
Like tilling drought dry soil like farmers
In some giant global sudoku puzzle.
Accountants & clauses have got me
fizzled fuzzled.

If it weren't for stupid corporate
political sinful lustful sefish greeed,
No one would be in this position, now
& if only people remembered when their first employer gave a chance
The first glowing ember,
To the fire that now burns within,
Known as their career.

Please Fate, Providence, the Almighty God?
Please, don't dim my embers of passion.
Next door that I knock on
Let someone please, please answer!

It seems no matter what I do,
I'm going to be stuck here forever
so maybe I should
get used to the fact that
I will be a corporate slave forever.
Only just so I can live,
But I must question:
Is that any way to live??
