Hello,
This is my first post here! Glad to see so many Indy fans in one place!
I had a few questions regarding the orginal movies. I apologize in advance if they have been asked before.
1. In RotLA, how did Marion escape the basket in such a short time before the truck blew up?
2. In ToD, why did Willie even folllow Indy into Lao Chi's plane? She lived at Shanghi, right? Why did she just not go home after her and Indy sped away from Lao Chi?
3. Same movie.
If Indy dropped the other two Shankara Stones, how did the last one give power back to the village? It would not even glow without the others nearby, so how did it do any good?
Thank you

1. Just like Indy said: they must have gotten the baskets mixed up
2. She was trying to get away from the bad guys and they were in a chaoitic chase
3. The village was originally "powered" by only one stone, so I guess that was enough to power the village

Yeah, I remember Indy saying that they must have gotten the baskets mixed up.
But, I still think that Willie could have just walked over to Lao Chi when he was watching Indy board the plane. I doubt he would have harmed her.
I never caught the part where it says the village was "powered" by only one stone. I always thought the Thugee stole all three from the village, and were looking for the last two in the mines.

I always wondered why Willie was allowed to "tag along." She really didn't have a need to, exactly. She would have been shot if Indy hadn't pulled her behind that rolling gong, but it wasn't as if Lao Che was after her. They definitely could have done a lot more with her in that scene, and perhaps that could have explained exactly why she had to get out of the country with Indy.
And the basket thing...
I just assumed that Marion was put in a different truck, and for some reason, there was another basket (probably without an American in it), that the thugs put in the back of a truck. Why there would be another one can only be explained as a reason to make the audience think Marion was dead.

1. The baskets were mixed up.
2. She was scared when she saw an angry Lao and his men with guns (as mentioned in the novel.)
3. They only needed one stone.
Considering Lao said "keep the girl, I want another", I doubt Willie would want to return to him or the club.

The idea that Willie should have just gone back to Lao Che strikes me as absurd. Lao Che probably would have blamed her for Indy getting away, and he's not exactly a nice guy.
As for Marion and the baskets, it really makes no sense.

I don't think Willie should have gone back to Lao. Obviously he had no feelings for her either romantically or even for her safety, but it's a bit like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Obviously she didn't know what she was getting into, but she could have either stayed in Shanghai or gone back to (was it?) Missouri. She didn't really need Indy.
But, without her, there would be no romantic interest in the film and it might have suffered. Might have. Her screaming probably wouldn't be missed by most.
