Well, which is your favorite one? I would go for that one. Me personally, I'd get Raiders first.

Id get the boxset. Its so cheap just now with the run up to Indy 4. under £20 easily.

Maybe get someone to loan you some cash? it wouldn't be too much.

I always like to start with the first of any trilogy myself but my favorite Indiana Jones is ToD. So I'm afraid I'm not much help :o

- well, except that the internal chronology of the series isn't the same as the release order, and as it happens ToD is the first in the trilogy to take place (aside from the LC prologue, of course)... so actually, you're quite helpful! ;)

- or rather, you would be if the OP does decide to go that way, which (s)he may not... ;)

Another way to think of it:

Raiders of the Lost Ark is the original Indy movie, the first one ever released and the one that introduced the world to the character - therefore one should get it first.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom takes place before either Raiders or (most of) Last Crusade - therefore one should get it first.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade begins with a prologue that takes place before all the rest of all three movies, and explains a bit about who Indiana Jones is and how he got to be the way he is - therefore one should get it first.

How's that for unhelpful? :p ;)

Incidentally, one might also consider The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones for one's first Indy DVD acquisition. Any of the three volumes is more expensive than any one of the movies, but as it happens they can easily be had at steep discounts right now, making them cost not that much more than the boxed set of the movie "trilogy" (which is probably the best way to go for someone who wants them all soon but doesn't have a lot of money, BTW - I believe it costs quite a bit less than buying all three individually). Since the Young Indy sets will undoubtedly go back to their regular prices in a week or two, right now is probably the best time to pick them up, price-wise, for any time in the near future. Eventually they'll gradually be lowered in price to what they're currently being discounted for, but that will probably take months or a year or more.
