INDIANA JONES™ VENTURES TO DISNEYLAND® PARK
FOR A SUMMER OF HIDDEN MYSTERIES
Intrepid Archaeologist Explores Adventureland In Exclusive Celebration of
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull™
ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 21, 2008) – After rescuing the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail from the forces of evil, returning the Sankara Stones to their rightful place, and battling sinister foreign agents to find a mysterious Crystal Skull, what’s INDIANA JONES going to do next? He’s going to Disneyland!
Beginning May 22, deep in the heart of Adventureland — not far from the treacherous Temple of the Forbidden Eye, home to the heart-pounding Indiana Jones Adventure attraction — the daring Dr. Jones will take Disneyland Park guests on a thrilling series of exploits in the season-long INDIANA JONES SUMMER OF HIDDEN MYSTERIES.
Guests will be invited to become archaeologists, to interact with Indy himself and to journey deep into exotic jungles to unscramble clues, all the while learning what life is like for one of the greatest adventure heroes of all time.
Among the highlights of the INDIANA JONES SUMMER OF HIDDEN MYSTERIES, created by Disneyland Entertainment in partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd.:
• Random Acts of Indy – In the crowded streets of exotic Adventureland, guests never know when Indiana Jones might make an appearance. It could be in their midst, perhaps it will be high overhead, or even right next to them as Indy dashes by. But look fast, because Indy’s never in one place for long, especially when he’s being pursued by sinister villains!
• Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger – In this intimate storytelling adventure presented multiple times each day at The Oasis, young Disneyland Park guests will uncover clues, decipher codes and embark on an archeological journey that culminates in an appearance by Indy himself!
• Indiana Jones Adventure Map – Disneyland Park guests will explore just like Indy does when they pick up a collectible Adventure Map filled with mysterious clues. Artifacts and symbols are hidden throughout Adventureland and once they are revealed guests will find a special code, which they can take home to claim exclusive Indiana Jones digital content courtesy of Lucasfilm Ltd. It’s all at www.disneyland.com/indy starting May 22.
• Indiana Jones Meets the Jungle Cruise – One of the all-time classic Disneyland attractions takes on a distinctly Indiana Jones flavor this summer as guests are invited to find unexpected Indy-themed surprises along some of the most mysterious rivers of the world.
• New Indy Photo Location – Guests can boast to their friends back home that they outran a giant rolling boulder just like Indy himself - and then they can prove it with photographic evidence.
Indiana Jones Attraction Redefined The “E-Ticket” Experience
In addition to the special events offered throughout the INDIANA JONES SUMMER OF HIDDEN MYSTERIES, the Indiana Jones Adventure – Temple of the Forbidden Eye attraction continues to thrill guests daily - more than 95 million of them since its opening in 1995.
The Indiana Jones Adventure comes to life in an expedition through the fabled Temple of the Forbidden Eye, mysteriously hidden deep within the dense jungles of India. Look for action and thrills around every corner in this Disneyland guest-favorite where guests, boarding well-worn WWII troop transports, embark on what appears to be a standard archaeological tour.
Built long ago in tribute to the powerful deity Mara, the temple was rediscovered by Dr. Jones and his expedition team. According to temple lore, Mara could "look into your very soul," and then grant the "pure of heart" one of threemagical gifts: unlimited wealth, eternal youth or future knowledge. However, the ancient legend also issues a stern warning: "A terrible fate awaits those who gaze upon the eyes of Mara!" Dr. Jones would only say, "Records indicate that many have come... but few have returned."
Prior to boarding, guests are instructed by Indy’s longtime friend Sallah to look away from the eyes of Mara. He also asks them to keep an eye out for Indy, who entered the temple but has been missing from the expedition.
For those who dare look into the eyes of Mara, their journey takes a perilous twist. Their vehicles encounter clouds of smoke, fire, bubbling lava pits, ominous steam vents, a crumbling ceiling - even an "up close" confrontation with Mara. Legend says that Mara vaporizes the "unworthy" with beams of fire and other horrors such as screaming mummies, horrible bugs and rodents, snakes and poisonous darts.
Explorers discover even more surprises around every bend in this subterranean world where, just like in the blockbuster movies, escape is only temporary as they traverse a shaking suspension bridge, suffer an avalanche of creepy crawlies and face a gigantic rolling ball which threatens to flatten them and their vehicle. The journey is set apart by the fact that Disneyland Park guests never experience the same ride twice.

You're Welcome :)
It sounds like there's a lot of possibilities for this experience, and hopefully keep some aspects of it past the summer.
The one thing I understand but feel kind of sad about is that according to my friend who's been hearing them rehearse Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger from the Jungle Cruise docks, it's heavily geared towards very young children.
Personally, although I understand that's the main Disneyland demographic, the Indy franchise is very much an exception to this. If you took a poll I'd venture to guess most Indy fans would lie in the 14 - 40 range.
I mean kids can't even ride Temple of the Forbidden Eye unless they're 46 inches or taller.

I would suspect, of course, that this means that Jack Sparrow has been displaced.

I would suspect, of course, that this means that Jack Sparrow has been displaced.
Originally Jack roamed around New Orleans Square, but once Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island opened, he got relegated to the Island.
They did a little Pirate Stunt Show with Jack out on the Island for a few months:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blkk-6Eh988 - Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY_rIclm4S0 - Part 2
They've discontinued that show, but I believe Jack still roams the island though not as frequently as he used to.
And speaking of Jack, one of the first Jack's (Now Ex-Jack) has spilled the beans to LAMag.com about his experience during his short-lived tenure: http://lamag.com/featuredarticle.aspx?id=7016
A very interesting read indeed.

Ah, true. Sometimes I forget that Pirates occupies a substantially different place in California than it does in Florida.
Very nice piece, about Jack Sparrow. Neither resentful nor whitewashing. Spot on.

I've worked at Disney parks, and it doesn't seem to matter much who the character actually is--if it's a real person interacting just with you in a cool costume, the little kids just eat it up. (Well, unless they run away screaming and in tears, but you can't have everything.) And so do their parents, who love seeing their kids get such personal attention.
Plus, you'd be surprised how many kids who end up around attractions like Indiana Jones and Star Tours are fans already, because their parents have been watching the movies with them since the cradle. ;)

I really wish Florida would get stuff like this... I'd kill to see this around Adventureland or Echo Lake!
I would suspect, of course, that this means that Jack Sparrow has been displaced.
It's about time! ;) (That being said, I'll openly admit to liking to work parade audience control for Pirate and Princess Parties just to oggle Jack ;))

This all sounds pretty cool. If it wasn't getting to be summertime, I'd definitely go to check all this out. But Disneyland during the summer months is just unthinkable. Spring and Fall are usually the best times to go, as the crowds are much less.

We just came upon a big problem with the "Random Acts of Indy".
Basically it's 3 sequences. The first is above the Jungle Cruise Queue, the second is on the balcony above the Adventureland Bazaar; with the climax being on the bridge of Tarzan's Treehouse.
The entire thing is basically one big split up show where Indy and the Villain are fighting for the Map to the Temple Of The Forbidden Eye. After the climax on the bridge, as Indy joins the crowd in the streets of Adventureland, he urges guests to head to the Temple because the villain is trying to steal the Eye of Mara.
#1 - Indy urges people to go to Temple with him as he walks right past it and eventually away from it. That just confused me.
#2 - When Indy urges people to go to the Temple, you can bet they do so in giant droves. Well, apparently Indy isn't informed when the Attraction is down (which is actually quite often); so a few days ago while it was down, a huge deluge of people try to storm over to the Temple as Indy urged them to, leaving the four helpless Archaeologists out front with their hands tied trying to explain to a massive stampede that the Temple was not in fact open at the moment. The ensuing bottleneck in an already space-deprived Adventureland wasn't a pretty sight.

Disneyland has a very wide audience that goes far past very young children. I am a 22 year old male without kids, and I am a hardcore Disneyland (Disney theme park in general) fan. Unfortenately, the Disney execs don't always realize that. 46 inches= kids about 7 or 8 years old BTW.
I think KOTCS is getting many kids younger than 14 interested in Indy. The main reason they weren't interested in Indy before is because they weren't exposed to it. I still think the Secret of the Stone Tiger show should appeal to kids and their parents, as well as teens, young adults, and everyone else.
Now when are we going to get a Mola Ram walk around character?

I think the first half of Secret of the Stone Tiger appeals more to kids while the second half is more of an adult pleaser. The thing that really amused me the most during the second half was the thought that deep down, ever since seeing the poor cigarette girl in Club Obi-Wan, I always knew Indy was a woman beater. :whip:
My biggest complaint is that the set wasn't really changed. It's basically the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin with vines all over it. I almost expected it to randomly blurt out "Who dares disturb my slumber?!"
Now when are we going to get a Mola Ram walk around character?
We'll keep him inside the Temple over at the Loading Area doing the final height check on kids before boarding their transport, making sure no kids under the height requirement were snuck in by their parents.
PARENT: "He's tall enough! He's been on this ride before!"
MOLA RAM: "You don't believe me? You will."

Bingo. I work over at Splash Mtn (in WDW, not DL) and I have seen/heard more kids walking around singing the Indy theme in the last week than I think I have in the entire rest of my life. Indy's always been there, yes, but with the new movie, it's really drawing kids' attention. Just this morning, I stood outside and listened to two 6/7-ish year olds singing it nonstop for about five minutes (in that adorable, way-off-key little kid way ;)).

I seriously don't know how to answer this with a straight face.
Although over in the Temple there have been incidents where an E-Stop was pressed due to a Guest running back into the track towards the Indy AA (Audio-Animatronic) at the Finale immediately upon taking their seatbelt off because they "wanted to get Indy's autograph".
Similar situations occured over on Pirates of the Caribbean after they added the Captain Jack Sparrow AA's. I constantly hear teenage girls yelling out "Johnny I love you!" to the one at the end. There was even a few days where among his treasure there lie a pair of panties some girl threw at him.

...why am I not surprised? :D Many guests are not the brightest crayons in the box. A couple of weeks ago we had a pair of ducks that built their nest alongside the flume at Splash and had a couple of ducklings... guests were all coming off asking us if the ducks were real. :p

For some reason, I feel the need to top that.
Over at Jungle Cruise, a question we actually get pretty often is if the water is real.
No joke.

I lost track of this thread, but Dr. Hapgood, I hadn't realized before that you work at Disneyland. That's pretty cool! Always thought it'd be fun to work there. Do you work the Jungle Cruise all the time, or do the cast members switch around every so often?
How does one get a job at the park? Do they simply advertise openings in the newspaper? I've never seen a "Now Hiring" sign hanging at the park entrance before. :p
Also, my mom works at a Disney Store and heard a rumor that Disneyland cast members supposedly treat Disney Store cast members kind of rudely because DS (until recently) was not owned by Disney but another company. Any truth to that that you've seen?

They make it sound like you see Indy on the ride or something. All it was was four props from the movies hidden on the ride. It was kinda cool finding them, though. Mola Ram's headress, the crate with the Ark of the Covenant in it, Henry Jones Sr's umbrella, and a piece of the jail cell wall from Crystal Skull with a picture of the skull carved in it.

HAHAHA!!! I didn't see any panties when I went on the ride a couple of years back.

Finally! Someone answered my question! That was it? I'm not disappointed. And I'm not disappointed in not seeing the show with the Stone Tiger either (though when I did go to Disneyland, I did go see Aladdin and Jasmine's Storytime and very much enjoyed it! A far better show than the Stone Tiger one, I watched on Youtube). The only thing I wished I had seen with my own eyes would have been those Indy fights that occur spontaneously in Adventureland. All I have to say is.... Thank God for Youtube!
