Hey,
Posted this in another forum but I thought I would put some pictures up for true Indy geeks who are interested in such a thing. :) Apologize for image quality but my scanner is broken.
My mom and aunt went to Hazelwood high school in St. Louis in the 70s, and were friends with Kate Capshaw. So at the end of Temple of Doom when Willie says that she's headed home to Missouri, she's no liar. :)
Here's some pics from her senior year:

Her name was Nail, apparently, before her first marriage.
I checked in the back to see how much acting experience she had. :p

I don't know why people haven't posted -- this is really cool! Kate was pretty cute as a teenager. :)
Does your mom have any stories about her you could share? What was she like before her moderate fame? Did they ever suspect she'd go so far?

Kate's interesting because as my mom describes her she was just one of those average people that ends up getting married to one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. She lost touch with her after high school but was understandably blown away when all of a sudden she was in Temple. She did have singing aspirations though, but didn't have much acting experience in High school, at least in Hazelwood productions.
Makes me wonder who will end up famous from my graduating class.

Nice!
George Romero offered me a piece of cherry pie. And last November I shared a sandwich with Demetri Martin. Let's turn this into the random celebrity story thread!

I met Sean Astin. He was outside a bar/grill place I was leaving and I, being the super smooth man I am, just blurted out "Holy ****! It's the kid from The Goonies!"
He laughed and asked me if I wanted an autograph. I declined. We talked for a few minutes, then he asked if I was sure I did not want an autograph. I felt bad for him so I let him sign my face w/the felt marker he just happened to have with him.
All he wrote was his signature. What a wasted opportunity.
George Romero offered me a piece of cherry pie.
Did you accept it? I CAN'T SLEEP IF I DON"T KNOW.

Allergic, unfortunately. Here's how it went down (this is at a screening of dawn of the dead and a signing afterward at a penthouse suite in some hotel [random tangent - the image of a couple hundred fans, some in full zombie makeup, hauling at high speed from the theatre to the hotel and clogging up the elevators, scaring the patrons constituted possibly the most hilarious evening of my life])
Me: Oh my god, I'm such a fan, I'm speechless. Thank you for doing what you do.
George: Hey, thanks! I do my best.
Me (Noticing that there are 4 plates of different kinds of pie sitting beside him, none unwrapped): Wow. That's a lot of pie. Are you a fan?
George: God no. I can't eat that kind of stuff and I'm not hungry anyway. They keep bringing me this crap. This is fresh (slides cherry pie plate toward me) Want some? Go for it.
Me (Can't believe it): Allergic. But thank you.
After taking a photograph and getting a poster signed, I realize the error of my ways. A body covered in hives and a trip to the hospital would have been totally worth it. I run to Tom Savini at the next table for support.
Me: Bruce Campbell denied me a hug last year at his book signing. Are you a better man?
Tom: Bruce is a ******. Let's do this thing.
I hugged the man. He showed off his skills with a bullwhip (on youtube, if interested). Best. Night. Ever.

I wish now I'd made up that he was completely drunk and/or groped my ass but he was actually pretty cool. This was post-LOTR, and I was surprised he wasn't offended that I didn't recognize him from that.
He's shorter, very down to Earth, and more attractive in RL, for those who care.

I've met Bruce Campbell on four separate occasions, but he was on the nicest guys I've ever met at any convention. He even talked to my mom once and she wasn't even in line, but standing nearby waiting to get a picture of us together.
I haven't had any bad celebrity encounters, but my least favorite would probably have to be Stan Winston. I met him at a con in 2001 and he shook my hand, but didn't seem like he wanted to talk or anything, just sign stuff like an assembly like. After he signed the pic I had and slid it back, I picked it up and said "Thanks," but he didn't even look up and just sort of turned to face the next person in line behind me.

I'll always and forever associate him with the Goonies before I'd say "Oh, it's the guy from LOTR," so I definitely see where you're coming from.

I've met him twice ... and if I ever have the chance to meet him again, I'd jump at the chance. I respect him for loving his fanbase in ways that some people (STAN) don't. I passed up a chance to meet Ray Harryhausen to see Bruce the first time...that's some serious power right there.
Who else has met celebs?
I'd die to meet anybody from the Indiana Jones films, obviously. Steven Spielberg is high on the list, as is Sam Raimi, who I forgive for Spiderman 3. Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro are up there as well.

Hey -- I wasn't dissin' on Bruce. I just think the idea of one geek God insulting another is too funny. I'm sure he's very nice in person.
I only have one other celebrity encounter story; I didn't include it before because I don't really think of him as one. Mr. Richard Gere. And, yes, he's just as crazy as you may have heard.
Very brief. No autographs, as none of us had pens, and he starred at my friend's chest the whole time. To fill the awkward silence after the "OMG IT'S THAT GUY FROM AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN," she complimented him on his hair, prompting him to ask if we wanted to touch it. (WTF)
Who were we to refuse an offer like that?
It was soft and smelled like coconut.
I started to ask about the gerbil incident but my friend, sensing what was coming, talked over me and said our goodbyes. Mmph.
That very same day we saw Ethan Hawke, though sadly we were too far away at the time to do anything but oggle at him. I love NYC.

I have never been to NYC. Or LA, sadly. I'm jealous of one of my ex's, a USC student, who almost ran over Ron Howard on her bike a few months ago. Celebrities just don't happen to be around the midwest the same way.
I sat next to Walter Cronkite on a plane to London, though! Extremely nice man, but very frail and I did more talking to his assistant lady than I did to him. Like Romero, all I could muster up was a blubbering thank you.
Sadly, he did not offer me airplane peanuts, or any food for that matter, and my prior celebrity experience had my mouth watering like an unrewarded Pavlovian dog.

I ran into Viggo Mortenson recently in my home town. Apparently he was shooting his latest film here. He was super nice and kind. He actually kept thanking me for being a fan. He gave me a picture and an autograph. He talked to me for like ten minutes straight.

Viggo always struck me as a nice kind of guy. A lot of actors with roots in horror movies, it seems (Let's not forget Texas Chainsaw Massacre III!) are bred more down to earth than others.
An exception may be Jennifer Aniston, who I'm not sure if Leprechaun killed or not.

NYC is excellent for celeb sighting. (Or stalking...) I can't even imagine what it must be like in LA, where seeing celebs is commonplace event.
If I ran over Ron Howard with my bike, I'd refuse to move until he agreed to make Willow 2 with the original cast reprising their roles. :p

See, all I've met are ordinary celebrities. You've met actual LEGENDS. I'm jealous.

This is nice to hear since Viggo's always set off my douchebag meter. Glad to know he's a cool guy in person.

Besides being a big Indiana Jones fan, I'm not a big fan of celebrities or the attention they get.
Always helping out on my buddy's different films, I find it wrong that they get all the praise while everyone else around them does all the work and really makes the magic happen. And when they're not "acting" they're getting pampered. But that's just my opinion.
They're just people to me. That's why I'm not nervous or afraid to approach one. And I've met a few.
I met Tom Jane at a hotel in New York once. He was a cool guy. Quiet, but cool.
When me and my buddy were in LA we met a lot of people and I didn't even know who half of them were. I asked Shia Lebouf for directions. I didn't know who he was at the time. He was a nice guy, and he actually gave good directions:up:
I was waiting for a sandwich in a deli and my friend pointed out the girl in front of me was Kristen Bell. She was with a friend. I thought she was cute, so I approached her and asked if she was famous. She laughed and said she was. She was actually kind of flattered that I didn't know who she was. I asked her if this deli had good sandwiches. She said her friend said they did. Then me and my friend talked to her about local places in LA for a good 10 minutes. Cool gal:up:
I think Will Smith walked past me once. I could be wrong though.
I shook Heath Ledger's hand while they were filming The Dark Knight in Chicago. He's really down to earth. Well....was really down to earth God bless him.
I got autographs and shook hands with Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Christopher Nolan, Aaron Eckhart, and David Goyer. The were nice, except Nolan. And Eckhart was the man.
I met Dane Cook before he was popular at a stand up comedy club in NY.
That's all I could remember for now....

Very cool!
Jack Palance owned a farm in the same valley we used to live in. We used to run into him at the grocery store. He was sweet, just like any other cute little stooped over man buying his groceries, lol.
I've nearly run over a beloved news anchor from Minneapolis twice. He jaywalks!

Nice. Although I'm not going to lie, the only movie I've ever seen of his was the first Batman.

He was very arrogant. He wouldn't acknowledge any fan's questions or even wave to them. He's still a bloody good director though.
