According to aintitcool.com, reports have come in that Stan Winston has passed away last night...

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37106

No other source confirms it though...

If this is true, it's really tragic, tragic news...
It would mean that yet another Hollywood master is no longer...

God... It must be true then...
This is really a huge loss to the special effects business... I was a huge fan of mr. Winston...
That guy was the absolute best in what he did...

He was truly a legend. Rest in peace Stan.

Ain't it cool says he started working on the new Terminator movie.

The last great visual FX magician. Now we live in a fabricated world of hokey computer FX. Tis a sad day indeed. :(

Shocker. R.I.P. to Stan the Man.:(

His work for the "Jurassic Park" movies will always be my favourites.
Supposedly, he worked on the TV show, "Manimal"?

I'm completely at a lost for words. I had no idea he was ill, so this is a total shock for me. He'd always been one of my favorite effects artists, and meeting him at a convention in 2001 was a dream come true. So many of the films he worked on are among my favorites.

I'm just completely shocked and saddened now. :(

I honestly didn't know who he was until I read the article. The man worked on a lot of my favorite films and it's a damn shame he passed on.

R.I.P., dude. :hat:

aintitcool.com has posted a great tribute to the special effects wizard. It features reactions from Jim Cameron, Joe Dante, Frank Darabont and Rick Baker...

Like mr. Baker said... It's truly the end of an era...

Rest in peace, mr. Winston.

It's a pity we didn't get a closer look at the snake he created for Skull.

Stan Winston Studio also worked on the crystal skulls and aliens for Indy 4.

Devestation and tears. It all I can use to describe my shock and sadness, those three words. Mr. Winston, you are a god in my eyes. Farewell, farewell...:hat: :hat: :hat: :hat: :hat: Why can't these smilies be frowning? It gives the wrong impression!

Once again, I REALLY wish we had a crying, sobbing smiley to use for tragedies like this...

And what especially hurts is how excited and damn happy I was when I posted on the Terminator thread that Stan would be back for Salvation. It's Heath Ledger all over again...a gut punch to my emotions. I'm going to be depressed for weeks. Tears aplenty. I may not even post for a while, I'll be so withdrawn. I cannot type the words that a deity-man like Winston deserves. AICN did that beautifully. From now on, they should refer to every day after this event as ASW (After Stan Winston), as in like BC and AD. I'm truly serious.

I'll never recover from this...
