Hey everyone. To give you a little backstory as to why I am setting up this forum: I'm an aspiring writer/director/actor hoping to go to film school and hopefully have a fairly successful career in Hollywood. One of the screenplays I am working on is an adaptation of the Robin Hood legend (which I have been a fan of since early childhood). And I want to know your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
Now a lot of you may be asking yourselves 'Why do we need another Robin Hood movie? Havn't they made enough?'. My response to that: no they havn't... not enough good ones that is. As far as I'm concerned, the only one that almost got it completly right in my mind was 1938's Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn. All the others have either focused on the end of his life (Robin and Marian), been animated (Disney's Robin Hood), were alternate versions of the story (Ridley Scott's upcoming Nottingham), or too dark and love oriented (Prince of Thieves). Now I'm not trying to put down any of these films, but in my mind, they never gave us the full adaptation that fans like myself have really wanted.
To explain my story w/o giving too much away (don't want anyone out there to steal my ideas!): think of the Robin Hood legend in general, but give it a more realistic and historic background and setting. The legend is already filled w/ such things (the crusades, King Richard, Prince John), so why not put them to good use? To compare it w/ more recent films: think of the realism and backstory shown to us in Batman Begins, combine it w/ the swashbucking adventure and humor of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and the historic epicness of Kingdom of Heaven.
Another neat thing I have been able to do is logically include every major character into the story, while still being able to give them good screen time (something that was lacking in previous adaptations).
So just leave me any ideas or suggestions that you have (what you wanna see, what you don't wanna see, what actors would be good for what parts, etc.). Never know, you might see them up on the bigscreen someday. ;)
