Didn't her own brother bone her at some stage in some other story? Even in a galaxy far, far away, that sh!t's illegal...

It's been awhile since I've read Courtship, but unlike seemingly every other Star Wars fan, I remember enjoying it. I actually liked the idea of Force witches, and the domesticated rancors were pretty cool, too. I still have it on my shelf and am planning to reread all my SW EU novels sometime since it's been awhile for many of them.

From what I recall, what kicks kicks off the story is that Leia accepts (or heavily considers) a marriage proposal from visiting Prince Isolder, who is offering his resources to the New Republic. Han, angried at the thought of losing her, basically kidnaps Leia and takes her to a planet he recently won in a game of sabacc, hoping to convince her that he's the one for her over Isolder, who's more of a Fabio-type if I remember correctly. Haha!! Not exactly a smart move on Han's part, to kidnap a princess, but it all works out in the end.
My only complaint with the novel is that the actual wedding at the end is only barely mentioned. It simply ends with Luke arriving late to the ceremonies and taking his seat as Han and Leia recite their vows, and that's it. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. :)

I can remember wanting to do a lot of things to Princess Leia. But none of them involved kicking her in the face.

I don't know if I'd say it's weird. Like anything, there's good and bad. IMO, what's bad is really bad, but the good stuff is very good and entertaining. I haven't read anything since before the New Jedi Order saga, but after reading about it, it didn't sound very interesting, and I lost interest in getting back into the Star Wars EU. Especially after they killed off Chewie.

I love the Courtship of Princess Leia! Yes, there were times when I wanted to slap Leia but it's a great read! I enjoyed it. I also wish the wedding was more detailed though.

Han Solo can kidnap me any time!;)

The Star Wars EU is weird.
Yup, indeed it is. In fact, the only worthwhile books to read are Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy. Most of the others are more or less mere tools for money-making. And I think the Courtship of Princess Leia was one of the worst books in the series - none of the characters act like they should (based on what we know of them from before).
