I personally think The Twilight Zone was the greatest show ever created! The storys and narrations's by Rod Serling were just excellent. They had such a wide variety of episodes ranging from the old west to a killer doll to a monster on a jetliner wing! When I was younger some of these episodes really got to me such as the episode " Long distance call" But it is my all time favorite show and there is a marathon of it on right now on sci fi they do this every new years and 4th of July. Any other TZ fans out there?

Oh sure. The Twilight Zone is an awesome series. The new ones are typically pretty good too, but you'll probably disagree with me.

One of my personal favorites is probably the one with the kid who turns his dad into a jack in the box, you know the one I'm talking about; with the "corn field".

BTW, I'm watching it right now too.

That was not his dad it was neighbor. The episode was called " It's a Good Life"

The new ones sucked in my opinion same with the ones in the 80s. No Rod Serling no deal.

Could very well be the greatest show ever invented for television. Almost every show currently on sort of just lacks complete class in comparison. Rod Serling was a genius.

My personal favorite episodes are "To Serve Man" and "Eye of the Beholder".

Meh. I used to watch the Sci-Fi marathon religiously. But now I own The Complete Series Box Set, the new one in the fancy case with high-quality transfers and the most insanely massive amount of archival material and other bonus features. And of course Sci-Fi severely edits the episodes. Every episode is missing about 3 or 4 minutes worth of footage. So meh on the marathon. I'll stick to my DVDs.

Really? I never knew they were edited. I own the definitive season 1 collection but I have yet to buy the rest my favorite episode from season 1 is " The Big Tall Wish"

I always watched SciFi's Twlight Zone marathon as a kid, but I remember it being on New Years instead of the 4th of July.

My favorite episode is either Two, or Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?

Oh, and The Number Twelve Looks Just Like You is a good, underrated one too.

I remember watching some episodes in the late '80's. Loved it. They weren't the old black & whites, either. They must have been made around the same time they were screened.

Yup. There was a revival in the 80s, and again in '02.

I wasn't a big fan of either but the latest one gave us a sequel to It's a Good Life with the original actors, so points for that.

There was another, similarly-themed show which always began in a forest with a voice-over. What was that? The Other Side, or something like that....

You're thinking of Tales From The Darkside.

It ran from '83 to '88, and it was awesome.

They made a movie version in 1990, which was actually really good, unlike The Twilight Zone movie.

That's the one. How about The Outer Limits? Never got into it, though I do remember an episode in which a guy grew eyes in the back of his head!

I never really got into The Outer Limits, and I've never seen any of the original series from the '60s, so I can't judge. But I do remember seeing an episode where Eric McCormack from Will & Grace was being eaten by these giant space spiders; it was funny, he had this bad mullet and his acting was atrocious.

You know, I always get Outer Limits confused with that short lived Night Visions show. Whatever happened to that?

Do you guys remember a short-lived series in the early '80s called The Darkroom hosted by James Coburn? I just remember one episode where a guy was battling a bunch of toy soldiers.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pMF2DvBBCGc

There was a great Tales from the Darkside starring Jerry Stiller called "Devil's Advocate" That scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

These shows were no match for Twilight Zone, but there were some good stories on there.

I never cared for the outer limits myself.

My alltime favorite TZ episode is " Nick Of Time" with William Shatner/ I wish I had that mystic seer prop............ Ice looked everywhere to buy it but no luck.

Here is where people argue with me.......... This is my favorite intro the season 1 intro because the music is just great it creates a creepy atmosphere before the show even starts and Rod Serlings narration is chilling I wish they would of kept this intro instead of the more populer one.

the guy that made this updated the visuals....... It's not exactly the same but just listen to the music and narration.

An adaptation of the classic "Time Enough at Last" episode with Burgess Meredith. Actually quite good.

WHY YES IT IS.

This is my favorite intro the season 1 intro because the music is just great it creates a creepy atmosphere before the show even starts and Rod Serlings narration is chilling I wish they would of kept this intro instead of the more populer one.

See, I think the music and sound effects in the later seasons are so much more effective in setting the mood for the show than that.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cTSX91J6UtE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cTSX91J6UtE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The beginning "doo dee, doo dee" piano part makes it for me. Seriously, it's like a tie between this, X-Files, and Unsolved Mysteries for the creepiest theme tunes of my childhood.

Also, the opening from the 80s Twilight Zone, just because.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KF-yh4mU6ps&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KF-yh4mU6ps&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Inferior but I actually prefer the design for the title font.

Yeah The season 2 and after theme was good it just did not set the tone as well in my opinion.

I hated the 1985 intro and the 2002

I watched this marathon all day yesterday.
The old Twilight Zones are some of my favorite shows. My favorite episode is the one where the guy finds a stop-watch and learns that it freezes time.

Well, he keeps doing this and one day while time is froze and accidently breaks the watch and is stuck for eternity in that frozen nano-second.

Yeah I love that episode but hey that fate would not be so bad frozen people.......... Jessica Alba here I come! lol

Thought I would put in my two cents.... love the show, love Rod, love the ride at WDW!!!

I saw that fortune telling devil head thingie and some other props (or replicas?) at Hollywood Studios at WDW.

Some of my favorite episodes:
-Obsolete Man
-The one where Robert Redford visits the old lady about to die
-The one with the devil-head fortune telling thing.
-The one with the guy who gets addicted to the slot machine.
-The one where a woman is visted by herself as a child.
-The one where the man steals the wax figures of murders from the museum
-The one with Robert Duval and the miniatures.

Too many too list! I especially like seeing celebs back when they were younger. Two was a fun one for that reason. Nice to see Samantha from Bewitched in a whole new light. :)

On an extra fun note.... the guy who did the Rod Serling voice-over for the Disney rides commented on my husband's blog (http://mikenaretta.wordpress.com/2007/03/22/like-a-virgin/). Pretty cool.

Yup all those episodes you listed are classics!

The ride is great to I went to both Disneyland and WDW I like the WDW one better its longer.

Another episode I've always liked is Jess-Belle. I think it was the FIRST episode I ever saw, or at least the earliest one I remember seeing.

Two rules. It's always been my favorite, right after Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up? Elizabeth Montgomery was really pretty with dark hair. (Charles Bronson wasn't too bad either.)

Neat-o! I didn't even know there were Twilight Zone rides. I can't even imagine what they'd be like.

On a sort-of-related note, my current beau can do a rather good impression of Rod Serling. He can also do Marvin the Martian, which he thinks is simply the height of comedy to switch to at very inappropriate times. :dead:

Where can I read the blog? The first half of the voice over was lifeted from the episode " It's a good life" Than it was voiced over by an actor.

I love the episode " Night of the Meek" with the drunk Santa who later becomes Santa it was a really great episode where the outcome was good instead of an ironic twist.

Mikey was just talking about things that he would love to experience over again and the Twilight Zone ride was on the list. I guess Mark Silverman (voice-over guy) found the entry and decided to comment.

...I know what you mean about the "oh, bummer" endings... The happy eppies are few and far between!

Ooh and I like the one where Dean Stockwell sees war from the other point of view! He looked so weird in that makeup.

I like the episodes with the cruel twist but only when the person deserves it

like in the episode "Time enough at last" I felt bad for the guy when his glasses broke becasue all he wanted to do was read nothing wrong with that.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - best ride at Disney's California Adventure! I only got a chance to ride it once last year, but man was it fun!

I haven't seen any of the old shows in a while or the more recent incarnations. I did pick up the movie that Spielberg was involved with, even though there is all the controversy surrounding it with the on-set death of Vic Morrow.

One episode I can't stand, and they play it constantly, is the one where the astronauts are all confused because they don't know if they're dead or not? Do you know which one I'm talking about?

I'll tell ya, though... I'd prefer it if they did just do a new story. I'd hate if they tried what they did in the 80s with remaking classic tales. Spielberg's effort was the most appalling.

And they did that with BOTH of the revival series too; remaking past episodes. Blech.

The only Twilight Zone ever worth a damn was the original series. I hope this "new" one stays as far removed from anything related to the original as possible. The old episodes don't need to be remade be they as new TV series (80s and 00 incarnations) or as a crummy anthology horror movie.

Maybe that's why I didn't mind Rod Serling's Lost Tales? They were new stories...
