Coming Soon: Spade & Archer (http://www.amazon.com/Spade-Archer-Prequel-Dashiell-Hammetts/dp/0307264645/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234149964&sr=8-1) -- the prequesl to The Maltese Falcon. Someone read it and tell me if it's any good. I've been down the road too many times with this sort of book.
Also, I tossed an article by accident on an upcoming novel that I want to read. It's about a guy that's obsessed with drawing maps. Supposedly there's a killer web-site for the book, but I can't find it.

Sounds interesting, but I wonder if a prequel is really necessary? As people, we know who they are. We also know that Spade is having an affair with Archer's wife. It's been awhile since I read the book, but the movie certainly makes it seem like Archer is interested in having an affair with Brigid. We know the characters and how they would act, do we really need a prequel?

Good point. Textbook case-in-point: Temple of Doom
[. . . but I bet a Vega Brothers would've rocked.]

A buddy just bought it for me, I will get it on Friday, let you know how it is. Also, the new Christopher Moore book, "Fool" is out today. It is King Lear, form the Jesters point of view! Two books to read!

About 1.2 way with Spade, a fun read, but nothing to die for. Don't waste the $$$ on the Hardcover, wait for paperback. I suspect with will get a bit more involved, but seems simple, not the complexity of a great Chandler, and not as raw as a great Hammet.
