LEGO Universe is the new highly anticipated LEGO MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that was originally scheduled for 2009 but now according to various news sources has pushed back with no definite release date in sight.

LEGO Universe gameplay would consist of players working together cooperatively to accomplish goals. Once they reach level 30 they can customize their own weapon, howbeit their customized weapon would be weaker than their original one. The game will be subscription based but it will feature a Free2Play option.

I personally was looking forward to the game until this news surfaced.

The excuse that LEGO has used to push the game back into a hiatus is that ".the business is going good. We have products launching that are not digital, the physical products, with them going so well we don't want to take focus away from them."

LEGO is clearly not listening to the fans on that one. LEGO has also brought up yet another foolish excuse. They say that they don't want to over-flood the market with a vast array of LEGO products right now due to the fact that they are releasing lots of new games this year including LEGO Battles, LEGO Racers and have been hinting at more LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones scheduled to be released this year. My best guess is that the next LEGO Star Wars game will no doubt be LEGO Star Wars The Clone Wars.

LEGO has also said that want to focus on bringing LEGO Universe to consoles while the going is good. DC Comics is bringing their successful world of heroes DC Universe to the PC and PS3 and LEGO has their eyes on this new new frontier and they are determined to boldly go where no brick has gone before.

Personally I like the idea of bringing the LEGO mmo to the consoles. Anakama Games plans to bring their new hit Wakfu to mobile platforms and the Nintendo DS, Wii and XBOX 360. I sure hope that LEGO will bring LEGO Universe to all the major consoles next year including the XBOX 360, Wii, PS3, and even the handhelds iPod Touch/iPhone, PSP and Nintendo DSi.

Yes, it's all very annoying. I simply can't understand why LEGO would do something like this.

Or there's not enough people in the target audience on these parts...

Cruel, but very possibly true. Such is Internet.

Yeah. I mean they're building toys. Nothing more. So this is just going to be a MMORPG with a blocky Lego look. There's tons of other RPGs out there for a younger audience with good, detailed graphics.

I've been aware of such ideas. Yet, LEGO is massively popular. There is even a club of adult LEGO fans in the state of Washington. On the other hand the LEGO video games such as LEGO Indy, LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Batman have been a huge success with children, teens and adults so why not the same with LEGO Universe Online? LEGO has vowed to attract a wide audience with this MMO.

For one, maybe they are going overboard with the Lego videogames? We had two versions of Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman, and now I have heard there is to be another Lego Indiana Jones.
Another reason may be that there are more interesting and grittier MMORPG's out there. I am not saying grittier games are better, but most of the gaming populace tend to think that way.

To be honest we've had three LEGO Star Wars games: LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and LEGO Star Wars The Complete Saga and I myself still await for Star Wars: The Clone Wars video game.

And yes there is a great demand among gamers for a second LEGO Indiana Jones game that will be centered around Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and I plan to buy it BTW if it's released to the DS/DSi.

I've also heard that a LEGO The Hobbit game is in the works and I am also looking forward to that. From what I've read in various forums on the internet many people enjoy the LEGO games and there is also high anticipation for the new LEGO Racers game that is on the way.

While it is true that there are a lot of LEGO video games and I think that we are not yet over saturated and they are well loved among family audiences.

Well, I must say that I would love to play Lego Hobbit!
But, maybe my second statement is the reason? That gamers like more darker games? I like any game as long as it's fun.

But, also the reviews I read for Lego Batman all have said that the premises of Lego games are getting a tad old. I can find the links if you'd like. (Though some of the reviews were in magazines.)

Yeah dark games is getting to be a real problem and as a Christian I can't encourage people to play junk like GTA or BioShock. Shudders!

Anyway I'm glad to see you game for a LEGO The Hobbit and I'm a big JRR Tolkien and C.S. Lewis fan.

Howbeit I'm not happy with Disney for dropping the Narnia movies as I don't think FOX can do a good job of adapting the movies and keeping their spiritual content. Seeing how well New Line Cinema handled LOTR why could Disney not have sold them to New Line? Or maybe The Golden Compass prevented New Line from acquiring Narina?
