Anyone a writer here?
Like to write? Have stories to share? Characters?
I like to write myself. I been working on few new works, as well for a short story that is a project. Writting a short, one shot children's story called "Max's Cookie Adventure".
I also write for my Role play forum sessions as well.

I have wrote many short horror stories. I even have one posted here at The Raven, but I guess it sucked, because no-one replied! lol
I have wrote a few chapters of a novel, and I need to write more on that.
The main character I write about is Jaharvis. I could type a thousand long thread just describing his character, but I'll leave that to people who wanna here it lol.
My other main characters include:
Blackard Kullnane
Lance McReed
Ariham O'hera
Creed Gallow
Malikah Kane
Hawkeye

In high school I wrote countless stories, the majority of them focusing on a character called Josh Grant and his adventures in the fictional town of Mechanicstown, PA. I even won a short story contest featuring the character. Since I got into college I haven't had the time to write anything new, but I hope to get back into it and write a full-length novel.

I couldn't persuade you to take part in a joint (or collective; if we can find more writers) adventure story!? via corespondence online.
I originally wanted to do an Indy fan story but then thought it would be good to create a new character so we weren't hindered by Indys traits as he is a character who people have already wrote alot about.
Here was my own idea: http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=6737083754
Although I'd be quite happy to start afresh. I'd like to write a story that would perhaps borrow alot from Indy and would probably take a similiar adventure type mould. We can add our own ideas but I'm not going to pretend I want to do anything completely original. I just think if others were interested we could have alot of fun with it.

When I finish the Max story, I'll post it here.

AWESOME that is 3 of us already. Easily enough if we put our heads together to come up with a great story!
http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=13042
that is where the initial idea stemmed from but I assume we probably want to start with a fresh idea.
Creating a seperate thread for our story would be a great idea where we can start exchanging ideas and even for others to join in!
Alternatively if youre generally interested we can sort something out via email.

I love pulp-adventure from the 20's and 30s. And, I think we would all agree on that. Maybe we should start fresh? Develop the character first, and then exchange ideas via email or some sort of messenger for easier brain-storming?
EDIT: PM me if you want.

I had a short story published in a children's magazine when I was younger. I love to write and unfortunately don't get around to it nearly as much as I'd like. I'm able to write articles for websites and projects every now and then but I'd really like to start doing more. I've also been working on a novel but I keep rewriting it because I'm never satisfied, hence why it'll probably never get finished.

My plot has changed so many times I'm not even sure what it is anymore. I think I'm going to scrap the whole thing and start fresh; at least it'll be easier and more cohesive.;)

Absolutely true, expecially in a country like mine. But most important, the last novel I wrote is still unfinished...I've been working on it since 2006, and I can anticipate you it's an Indy adventure. :)

I don't mean this with any intentional offense or disdain.
I just think that instead of wasting your time writing a script that would juxtapose two franchises (and, in all probability, never be accepted by any filmmaker or, for that matter, any audience), you should come up with something original.

To say nothing of the fact that, since you don't own those properties, you'll never be able to sell anything based off of them.
Ditto your superhero idea....

- Story of Jesus Christ in a modern day setting
Kind of called Jesus Christ, Superstar. Or Godspell.
- A movie based on my life.
Any particular aspect of your life, or just a biography?
And as far as your other ideas go...maybe they should stay as ideas...
You'll be especially heartbroken when Lucas refuses to give you the rights to his Star Wars saga.

Lance, good thing you never talked to Alan Moore, seems to me he did something similar.
Who thought a Batman ripoff like Nite Owl would help generate enough steam for a motionpicture?

I didn't mean to "go off" on jamesdude and I didn't mean to sound as harsh and dismissive as I did.
As a quick aside, though, the Alan Moore comparison is all wrong. Moore was already an established comic writer who came up with a story to use existing DC characters, but the company changed its mind, so he created some original, but similar characters instead.
In any event, what I suggest to jamesdude is to do what Spielberg and Lucas did with "Raiders" - or with what countless other professionals do.
Those guys set out to make a movie that was similar to the ones they liked and were inspired by as kids.
That what jamesdude needs to do. Take inspiration from the things he likes, but use those ideas to fuel his own original creations.
He'll never get anywhere writing stories that take place in existing franchises, but what's to stop him from creating his own ideas that are in that vein, but original to him?
That's my two cents on the matter.

james i don't think they meant anything by it really. and as for lance who did mean something by it...there is always a critic and people like us who write books and movies, we just have to accept it as fact of life. Where would all of our good books and movies be if we let critics keep us down? You have to remember that the greats were told that their ideas would amount to nothing, but look at them now. shoot if they all listened to the critics we wouldn't have KotCS. i.e. harrison ford is too old.
get my point. don't let people keep you down and let your imagination soar.

Apart from being established, what part of coming up with a story using existing characters, and then superficially changing them is a comparison that is "all wrong"?

Hmmm, seems like AlanMoore did something, (now NOTE the QUALIFIER in the sentence), SIMILAR.

What's wrong with flexing his imagination with established characters/universes? It may not be a bad way to develop his own characters. As long as he DOES something. Maybe it's an easy exercise to find his voice/direction?
Your advice to strike out on his own is admirable, but probably impracticle for a first time out.

Whoa, whoa, whoa....
When did I become the "critic" who is "keeping anyone down" with my virulent negativity?
Did you not see my apology, where I said I didn't mean to sound harsh or dismissive?
Or how about the really "nasty" part where I tried to encourage jamesdude to take inspiration from his favorite films and then create something new?
Wow, that was unforgivable!
Sorry, but your comments are completely unfair and completely miss the point of what I was saying.

That's a fantastic idea if that's the case. I'm sure many people have started out that way, writing things they knew as an exercise in creativity and find one's voice and strengths as a writer.
But if he's trying to actually sell a movie idea that uses existing characters, he's in for a VERY uphill battle.
Your advice to strike out on his own is admirable, but probably impracticle for a first time out.
Maybe, maybe not. But everyone is different. And the process by which someone discovers, nurtures and hones his/her talents are completely unique to them. So if jamesdude wants to get his feet wet by writing those kinds of stories, that's entirely his business and good for him!
jamesdude - speaking directly to you now.
I am sorry for my first post where I came across as abrupt and dismissive. But, the one thing I agree with time-rider about is that you should follow your heart and not be deterred by negativity. So go for it and, above all, write with passion!

Frye was the great ancestor/god of the Elves. Freya, his sister was a great explorer. As she was exploring one day, her ship (Skioblaonir) was wrecked. Trapped there with no way to get home, she eventually made the land her own. Years go by. Kings and queens were born and died. Eventually, three sons were born unto her line. Sigar, the first born, became the king of the elves. Eglin, the second born, died a few months after birth. And Volundr, the third born, called Wayland by all his friends, became a Smith of renown. Sigar eventually married a Giantess named Gertrud and she gave birth to his son, Alf. Now Wayland created gifts for his nephew and was loved for it. But when Alf became king after his father’s death, he abused Wayland’s gift by making him create all sorts of items. He asked for swords, and armor. He asked for magic jewelry to bind his enemies. And when Wayland finally stood up to his nephew and said no, Alf made sure that he would never stand up to him again, by hamstringing him.
thats just a rough draft and it's only a small part of the whole. its mostly going to be used as back history. but what do you think?

I have tried my hand at writing.
Please see the Fan Fiction section of this forum to see my Indiana Jones novel.
It has been both panned, and praised. It is both amateurish, and polished.
Check it out: "Indiana Jones and the Gypsy's Kiss".
I like the idea of a collaborative writing effort via internet. It just seems that those kind of things never get off the ground.
I think that to produce anything meaningful would require almost MORE work than would be required from an individual effort.
but if anyone here would like for me to contribute a chapter or two to a collaborative effort, I would definitely be interested.
Let me know.
