One of the franchises from Nintendo that I admire the most besides Mario and The Legend of Zelda is the Nintendo Wars franchise. The Nintendo Wars series contains two sub-series which are Advance Wars and Battalion Wars.
I plan on purchasing BWii for the Wii and I look forward to playing Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for DS.
I'd like to hear what you guys think of the Nintendo Wars series. Personally I'd like to see an adaption of Advance Wars into a television series on Cartoon Network with the same art styles and character designs from the Advance Wars box art, primarily the art from the very first Advance Wars on GBA which was released on September 10th 2001 in the U.S.A..
I'm also very pleased wirh the second DS enty of Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin which utilizes online gameplay via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
It would also be nice if the Advance Wars animated adaption were to be created by the makers of Cartoon Network's Miguzi block characters and the cartoon Teen Titans along with the creators of Transformers Animated.

As a kid who grew up with Nintendo in the 80's, and still consider myself a gamer today, I have no idea what you're talking about. I have never heard of this franchise.

Neither do I.
I came into this thread thinking it was about the old Nintendo/Genesis war of the early 90s.

I am a retro gamer and I love games in 2D. I never played any of the Advanced wars games, however.

I've never played any of these games but I've heard good things about them. One of these days I really need to check them out.

I picked up Advance Wars on the GBA when a store was selling it for £10 here. Very addictive stuff. Put a CD on and loose yourself for hours.
Also picked up the first DS version, but didn't think much of that.

Well I'm glad to hear that. Hopefully, (and I say the following due to the fact that Square Enix recreated Final Fantasy III and IV for the DS); it is my hope that Nintendo and friends will remake Advance Wars and Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising for the Nintendo DS.
BTW do you live in the UK? Is 10 your currency equivalent to our 20 dollars (USA)?
P.S. Here are some images from BWii.

Yeah, £10 is either 15 or 20 dollars. Was a good deal at the time!
So you're thinking of buying Batallion Wars 2? I brought that, but didn't think much of it. The Wii controls were a hindrance and the online mode is pretty pointless due to the lack of voice chat. Rent it or purchase the superior Gamecube version.

Yes, I'm considering purchasing Batallion Wars 2. I've played the first game on the NGC briefly and I really liked it. I do plan to purchase two game cube controllers and the first Battalion Wars since the Wii can play GC games. However it is very hard to find Game Cube Memory Cards and Game Cube accessories in my area. Yet, I've heard mixed reviews and negative reports about BWii and I don't believe those due to the fact people kept saying Mario Party 8 was awful and not worth buying and when I finally purchased it my father and sister and I enjoyed it very much. In fact we even play Mario Party 8 three to four times a week.
Now I'm not trying to say that what you've said about BWii is not true but I think that I might purchase BWii if I can find it for at lest no less than $29.99. BTW does one need a Friend Code to play with others in BWii? If so could you please post your friend code so I could play with you?
My sister has FIFA 2009 for the Wii. I guess if you've got that game we might be able to play with in there as well.
