When Humphrey Bogart's ad for Williams Shaving Cream appeared in the
June 8, 1942 Life Magazine, he was working on a new movie where he would
play a nightclub owner.

Many American movie stars do commercials in Japan, and some, like Arnold
Schwarzenegger, have filed lawsuits to keep Americans from watching them.
Humphrey Bogart did his endorsement in an American magazine.
Of course not many Hollywood celebrities would have been doing commercials
in Japan in 1942.
