Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I was just wondering what everyone thought of the sorta almost triangle they had going in the Raiders novel.. In the novel Belloq kisses Marion and she kisses him back and is attracted to him, I think she did this because she felt abandoned by Indy, but after she's taken a second time she refuses to let him touch her as her loyalty to Indy becomes stronger.. In the movie this was all taken out.. which way does everyone like it better?

hmm.. I'm surprised that no one is interested in the differences of the Belloq thing, it was a pretty big change from the novel and the movie

Do you mean the novel by Black?
If so, I do not take his added tidbits as canon.

I prefer the idea that Marion only views Belloq as a mark. She's just another conquest to him, and he's nothing more than her ticket out of the camp.

I've never been too keen on the love triangle. Or the other idea that occasionally pops up in the expanded universe, where they all knew or hung out with each other in their youth. I believe the fan script "IJ and the Sword of Arthur" is the one where Indy and Belloq each vie for Abner (and Marion's) attention.

Um, no.

I definitely felt there was some real chemistry between them, but at no point was Marion actually tempted to stay with him or anything. Yeah, she was just playing along to bide her time, but that doesn't mean she couldn't have found him charming or attractive to some degree.

I take her line at face value: "I like you, Rene. Maybe some day we'll meet again under better circumstances."

Here (http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=13115)'s an excellent thread that, while not covering the same exact territory as this thread, bears side-by-side consideration, if nothing else.

(Also, you really didn't need to bump your own thread after only 27 some hours.)

Oh I agree, it actually pissed me off that she kissed him back in the novel and liked it, I think Steven had said they had planned on doing the triangle thing but decided it would be best to make her stay completely loyal to Indy, which I'm glad of! I haven't read that script before, I'll have to give it a read
