One day i was playing WWF No Mercy on my PC (using a N64 emu) at a public library. Now a library is supposed to be a place where you can have privacy and use your computer in peace. Well somebody decided to stand behind me for a long period of time and he was shouting things like "you should have picked Stone Cold" and "why dont you hit him with the chair"
Finally i turned around and gave him a "get lost" look and he went somewhere else in the library.
Have any of you guys experienced something like this?

Was he a kid? That's like something a kid would do. You could have tried talking to him a little bit about the game; it would've made his day.
I've never had a backseat gamer, but I've experienced many a backseat artist. Which is why I dislike drawing in public places.
I guess there's something about a person bent over a sketchbook that compells people (usually girls--http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o314/BloodyThesis/Itisamystery.gif) to come over and take a look. I love it when they ask "why" I'm drawing whatever it is I'm drawing. It's like, what.

I hate "Commandeer-holes". You know, those noobs who must assert their superiority at whatever someones else is doing. The most common Commandeer-Holes you'll encounter are
-the Instrumental Cammandeer-Holes, those who will flock to and highjack the spot light from someone while they're playing a musical instrument, such as a guitar (which is the top prey) or a drum set, in order to display their domonance over everybody else at this hobby while purposly making remarkes about how easy it is to do a technique or making disaproving facial expressions when someone other than themselves are playing.
And
-the Video Game Commandeer-Holes. Very similar to and often melds with the above classification, these types however insist they must play one's video game without invitation and then take eternity to end their ungiven turn.
There are also many subspecies and variations, however these two are often the most common. Though it does depend on your geographic location and observed clique.

"Backseat gaming" lol. Yeah, I get that all the time. At the moment, I've been playing my way through the first 'Jak and Daxter' game and every time my bro's home, he sits down and tells me how I should play! I get all pissed and tell him to bugger off coz I want to figure it out myself, because I am trying to get better at video games.
..... And then, I get stuck and start calling for him and he refuses to help!
The irony!
But still... A thirty something year old guy at a public library??? Now that guy's a psycho. A serial "backseat gamer". :p

I'm a really bossy gamer more then anything but not to random people. I don't think of myself as a great gamer at all but when I sit down and watch a friend play a game whether an NES or a 360 I can't believe how bad they are or how long it takes them to figure out a puzzle. I almost go crazy watching them suck in all directions.
The only place backseat gaming is really "legal" is arcades. And they're pretty much extinct. Now the backseaters have sunk to libraries.

This is why I play a majority of games by myself. It's easier than having someone look over your should and judging your every move.;)

Maybe he had a learning disability. Or maybe he was hitting on you! Maybe he was a nostalgia-ridden manchild who couldn't help himself once he'd glimpsed those 64-bits.
The child asking why you were in the library is kinda funny. Are you a frequent flyer there?
There's nothing wrong with the public library. I love it. I go about twice a week. (For the books. And the cruising.) But I gotta ask... why are you playing video games there instead of at home? You're perfectly free to play games on your computer at the library, of course, though you'll have to deal with backseat gamers and inquisitive tykes alike.

Sucking is part of the learning process! :p

Arcades must have been super cool back in the day. I saw this special on the History channel a while back about the whole era and it's "superstars". It was crazy--they gained actual fame from their high scores on Pac Man, Frogger, and ****.

I am a backseat gamer when it comes to my wife playing. She is the type who has to gather every single item in a stage or level. Or if she's playing a open-world sandbox game she'll explore every single inch! I do the same, but when I am watching someone else do it; it drives me mad!
Hurry up already!
