The Music Box Theater in Chicago is playing RotLA on July 3rd and 4th!
Finally I get to see it on the big screen for the 1st time. My friend scared the crap out of me because the only thing I'm doing this whole summer was going to a Bob Dylan concert on July 4th and he said he thought they were only playing Raiders on the 4th! I got so angry. But then I went to the website and it said it's playing the 3rd and 4th.

FREE FAMILY MOVIES OUTDOORS IN ALLENTOWN AND WASHINGTON DC
See Capt. Jack Sparrow battle on the high seas and Indiana Jones fight bad guys outdoors on a big screen during Allentown's series of free movies in its parks.
''Indiana Jones, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,'' Aug. 15, West Park, 16th and Linden streets. A dinner precedes the movie. Call 610-434-0657 for reservations.
The big news ricocheting around the D.C. blogosphere this morning is that HBO will not be sponsoring the annual Screen on the Green movie series on the Mall this summer. We Love D.C. had the news this morning, and it's not yet clear whether the outdoor films will continue with a new sponsor or whether the series is completely finished. We'll update with more news as we get it.
But as we're waiting, we wanted to remind everyone that as much as we loved the six-week series, there are a number of other free, Metro-accessible outdoor film festivals in the area every summer.
The Comcast Outdoor Film Festival
Nightly, August 14-21
Heavier on recent blockbusters than the other festivals, this annual event at Strathmore is a fundraiser for NIH children's charities. (Admission is free, but the charities benefit through concession sales and donations.) Selections this year include "Slumdog Millionaire," "Twilight," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Bring the kids for "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa."

Raiders of the Lost Ark ~ Fr+Sa midnight
I believe this is Lake Shasta in California
Holiday Harbor turns into 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' tonight
Taking advantage of warm evenings and a lovely setting overlooking the Lake, Friday night Movie Nights at Holiday Harbor began two weeks ago and will continue twice a month through August. Families are invited to bring their own blankets, chairs and snacks.
The movie to be shown tonight, May 29, at 8 p.m. will be “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” the fourth film in the Indiana Jones franchise. Canyon Lake’s “Reel People” gave the flick a B+ after it came to theaters in May 2008, saying, “The story by producer George Lucas doesn’t really try to be too original or innovative. In fact, Director Steven Spielberg set out to minimize the more modern computer generated imagery (CGI) in favor of traditional stunts and live action. They are both successful in presenting the look and feel consistent with their prior Indiana Jones films.” (See May 30, 2008, at www.thefridayflyer.com.)

With the restoration of our beloved, and historical, beach-side jewel well underway, Galveston has many fun-filled, and budget-friendly, summer treats!
Every first Saturday of the month, Galveston Island's Historic Downtown District hosts "Movie Night on the Strand" at Saengerfest Park, located at 23rd & the Strand. This coming Saturday (June 6th) will show the oldie but goodie Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Pack up your lawn chairs and blankets to kick back and enjoy this family friendly (and free) evening event!
For those who like to cast a little rod n' reel, you can take the kids out to Galveston Island State Park this Saturday, June 6th, for a free Family Fishing Clinic. Learn safety techniques, how to properly handle equipment, fishing regulations and more! Then put knowledge in to action as each child gets to practice their fishing in the red fish stocked pond!
Sounds like a great day to me! I was in Galveston during their Marti Gras celebration and it was great...a lot of "turn of the last century" architecture and the island feel puts you in an Indian Jones mood!

With the circulation they're in I wouldn't be too surprised if it makes it to Atlanta. You just have to be on the lookout. Go and find out. Theaters are making the move back to screening classic movies. Its AWESOME! I saw Psycho the other day in a theater! This would be the fist time in thirty years I've been a patron there they haven't strictly screened first run films!

You can catch the show from one of Addison’s eateries on restaurant row or enjoy a great view at the Addison Circle Park watching party. Arrive early and enjoy food, live music and Cavanaugh Flight Museum’s Warbird Flyover. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, if you’re watching from the park.

"This is free, there's not a lot of things in life that you can enjoy that is free. So people can have a good time staying close to home. There's a variety of movies, something that you know the young, the old can enjoy." says Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala.

Well I've been to a flagship cinema before around here, and they are soooo nice. I called yesterday, within like an hour of your post to see about getting tickets, and the guy said their "classics" never sell out, so I'd be fine getting tickets. I honestly said to him, "what?!" "How could Raiders not sell out?!" I was baffled.

well i just got back from the 11:30 am showing of raiders at "the music box theatre" in chicago
1.the screen was probably 3 to 4 ft high and 12 ft long --in a theatre that was the size of a three car garage!
2.the print was pretty good actually with a few green lines that popped at times but what can you expect from a old print?
3.sound was good for dolby surround ---which means not 5.1 surround
4. overall not a bad viewing would have been nicer to see it on a bigger traditional screen , but it was , what is was .
my son and i went in our fedoras ( he was dressed in his indy costume ) i just wore my hat and jacket, some people asked to take pics of us , and i heard another patron say he had seen others at the midnight showing wearing the hats too.
so that was my experience seeing the film back on the big screen --- my umpteenth time and my sons first time seeing RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

Oh man, indyclone, me and 2 other friends went donning our fedoras! I kept a lookout but didn't see anyone else wearing one. I must've missed you. Glad you enjoyed it though. I agree, the MusicBox screen is a bit small for the size of the theater, but it's the only place I know of that constantly shows great cult/classic films. Can't wait for the ToD and LC screenings. Is there a question in there?
I'm on the lookout for screenings near me...unfortunately they are few and far between, so I might as well share with others. Maybe good fortune will smile on me, who knows...
I missed two Raiders screenings "relatively" nearby...
A couple of people have posted on this thread, I was hoping to inspire more.

I went to the Raiders showing last night at the Beverly. What a great time!! Went with my dad and little sister who is only 12 years old. I was about her age when I first saw Raiders with my dad back in the day. We made an archeology themed day by going to Getty Villa before the movie.
I would estimate that the theater was about 85% full. The crowd was diverse but I would say the majority were 20 somethings. I knew I was with my people because the crowd went wild with cheers during the opening sequence when Indy’s face is first shown :whip: . Other crowd pleasing moments eliciting applause and cheers included Indy offing the swordsman and Pat Roach’s appearance as the Germanic mechanic. As good as Raiders is on DVD, it is 10 times better on a big screen, especially in a room full of fans. There are a lot of film noir elements which don’t show well on smaller screens but really jumped out at me last night. We didn’t stay for Temple because my father had to work next day and we still hadn’t had dinner (btw the restaurant next door, Cayenne was very good), but it looked as if most of audience did.
It’s playing tonight and tomorrow night at the Beverly in Los Angeles.

Coming to a seafront near you: Europe's biggest outdoor screen
The big screen on Southsea Common for last year's Portsmouth Film Festival
Would you prefer an adventurous archaeologist, a scary shark or a musical marriage?
Or what about some fishy friends, dock detectives or pillaging pirates?
One of these will feature on Europe's largest outdoor screen when the drive-in movie returns to Southsea Common on October 3 – and it's down to you to choose.
The six shortlisted films – Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Mamma Mia, Finding Nemo, On the Waterfront and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl – were being announced today at the launch of the fourth annual Portsmouth Film Festival.
The drive-in movie opens the nine-day festival, which is packed with features, shorts, projections and world cinema showing across a range of venues in the city.
The winning film will be chosen by News readers and listeners to Wave 105FM and announced at the end of the month.
To help you choose which movie you want to drive to the Common to watch, we have put trailers of all the six shortlisted films on our website at portsmouth.co.uk/ trailers.
John Sackett, festival artistic director, said: 'The shortlist is bound to get people debating, as there are many favourites included. The winning film will be shown on Europe's largest outdoor screen on Southsea Common.'
He added: 'Last year's screening of Grease attracted over 2,000 people, and this year's event is promising to be even bigger.'
YOUR CHOICE
Which film would you like to see screened at Portsmouth Film Festival's drive-in movie on Southsea Common on October 3?

From what I've read, the only means he has to speak at the moment is by a computerized voice. It is theoretically possible, but I think he's keeping public appearances to a minimum.

Please note that the showing of "Raiders of the lost Ark" a few months ago was to a full house. There were only a few seats open - even the first few rows were filled.
And someone said there were no previews to help late arrivers.
So if you plan to get there a few minutes before showtime like at most movies, you may be sitting in the first row. And perhaps not together. Assuming it is not sold out, which actually is possible.
"Last Crusade" seems to be seldom shown, and the special Thursday $5 ticket price doesn't hurt.

Cinerama is opening its 70mm Mini Film Series Sunday Nov. 8 with the classic action film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
A precursor to the IMAX, Cinerama technology dates back to the 1939 world’s fair when inventor Fred Walter premiered this larger-than-life movie format. Cinerama movies are shown in a “three eyed process,” meaning it takes three projectors to complete the picture. Cinerama in Seattle is one of only two theatres left today that can still present movies in this format.
The theater will be showing “The Last Crusade” with Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in all its action packed, Nazi-thwarting, treasure hunting glory.
12 p.m., Cinerama (2100 4th Avenue), $8.50.

More than 100 city employees and community leaders turned out Monday for the official groundbreaking of the long-awaited Colony Square project.
Developers Jim Harrison and Peter Hilf said the groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction on the 10-screen movie theater slated to anchor the development in downtown Atascadero.
Harrison and Hilf said they hope to have the theater finished in late 2010.
A community celebration of the groundbreaking is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at the project site. It is expected to include hot dogs, popcorn and movie characters before a screening of the 1981 film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” City leaders have promoted Colony Square for years, saying it will be a key player in revitalizing the downtown area.

Indiana Jones is coming to Big Spring in 2010, according to officials with the Big Spring Film Society.
Brandon Johnson, chairman of the film society, said the group is planning to screen the Steven Spielberg classic “Raiders of the Lost Ark” April 24 at the Comanche Trail Amphitheater.
“It is shaping up to be our biggest event so far, as we are planning to have an Indiana Jones-themed short film contest, and the amphitheater is going to be transformed into something right off the screen from the Indiana Jones films,” said Johnson.
“At this moment we are looking at holding a concert in February or March to help raise money for the film society. We have a long road ahead of us — there will be many obstacles and distractions thrown our way — but as long as we stay persistent and refuse to give up there is nothing that we cannot achieve.”
The film society screened several films in 2009, including “Jaws” at the Comanche Trail Lake and “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” atop Scenic Mountain, both of which drew formidable crowds.
Johnson said getting the film society going in the Crossroads area has been challenging, but he and the core group involved in the projects are dedicated to changing Big Spring for the better.
“Too many times things have been tried in this community and when problems arose, people threw their hands in the air and said to heck with it, and that was the end of it,” said Johnson. “We have the opportunity here to bring something to Big Spring that could change everything. Our city is changing and now is the time for us to move.”
Johnson said the film society has developed some goals for the coming years, and while they are most certainly ambitious, he believes the group can accomplish them with the help of the community.
“I have been talking for several years with people about establishing a large scale film and music festival in Big Spring, one that could quite possibly put Big Spring on the map as a major festival destination,” he said. “With the progress in our downtown area it is coming closer and closer to the possibility of becoming a reality. The way I see it, if they can have a film festival in Marfa I don’t see any reason we couldn’t pull it off right here.”
There are plenty of naysayers to the idea, according to Johnson.
“I’ve heard tons of cynical comments on this, but the way I see it we’ll never know if it we could make it work until we try,” he said. “Not only would it be something cool to put together, if done properly it could definitely bring some tourism dollars to our community. We’ve got film history right here in Big Spring.”
Johnson said no specifics have been laid down for the festival at this time, but it's certainly in the works.
“It is something that will take a lot of planning and a lot of work, but it is on the horizon,” said Johnson.
Rules for the Indiana Jones contest should be ready for release soon, according to Johnson.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is now just a little more than a month away from reaching another exciting milestone in our building expansion and renovation project. In February, we’ll celebrate the reopening of Gartner Auditorium, ushering in a new era for our VIVA! & Gala performing arts series.
Those who want the first look and listen in the beautifully refurbished hall, redesigned by nationally recognized Cleveland-based architects Westlake Reed Leskosky in collaboration with leading acoustician Paul Scarbrough, will want to mark their calendars for our Gartner reopening bash on Sunday, February 28.
We’ve planned a stylish evening of elegant music and sophisticated reverie with Max Raabe & Palast Orchester as VIVA! & Gala returns to the museum following four seasons at venues around town. This black-tie big band plays note-perfect renditions of European jazz from the 1920s and 1930s. Arrive at 6:00 p.m. for cocktails and appetizers; the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are limited and going very quickly, with registration available online.
Then, we’ll keep the party going throughout March and April with eight weeks of free performances this spring. The Opening Nights Festival, running March 12 through April 30, features some of the finest of Cleveland’s diverse talent pool. The festival also allows Clevelanders to experience first-hand the capabilities of the city’s newest performing arts venue, through a diverse mix of high-caliber instrumental, dance, and vocal artists.
Highlights of the festival include performances by members of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, OperaCleveland Chorus, Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project, and Harmonia.
The festival also includes a screening of the Oscar-winning Harrison Ford movie Raiders of the Lost Ark
and the vocal stylings of local singer/songwriter Baby Dee, one of the city’s best known alt-rock performers.
Presenting sponsor is KeyBank. Supporting sponsors include Donley’s, The Musart Society, and Westlake Reed Leskosky.

Brandon Johnson, chairman of the film society, said the group will get the year under way in April with a screening of the Steven Spielberg blockbuster “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the film that launched the exploits of Indiana Jones into movie history.
“This will be the last leg of our Spielberg retrospective during the outdoor movie series this summer,” said Johnson. “
We’ll be screening ‘Raiders’ April 24 in the Comanche Trail Amphitheater in the city park.
We honestly couldn’t think of a better place to screen the film than a stone amphitheater, and I think it will make a fabulous backdrop for all the fun.
We’ve been looking forward to this screening for quite some time.”

Why is it, at least, Raiders, is show a lot of film? I bet I seen it at least 6 times in the last 10 years playing. However you never would see Star Wars just play like that or something movies. I haven't yet to find any of the other Indy ones screening but almost once a year someone will show Raiders. We do have a place here that shows SW, and others but it's just a big screen that shows DVD. I like that old film look, call me crazy

as with most films shown in retrospect lucas will only release his films for special screening maybe for charity events , while the indiana jones movies are available because the studios make them available , just like certian theaters will show like jaws or ghostbusters mostly through the summer events , so if you want to star wars trilogy in the theater it will have to be when lucas rereleases them again .:D
