Actually, chocolate can be quite good for you. It's the artificially enriched stuff that's that's the crap.

Just ask the Swiss. They love the stuff but there are no fat people here. McDonald's in Switzerland DOES NOT sell chocolate milkshakes:mad: because the ingredients don't meet the Swiss standard of what consitutes REAL chocolate (and they are the masters in that area).

P.S. With a name like Kiki Kat, I would've thought you were more partial to this:

P.P.S. Nestle is Swiss. Their headquarters are in Vevey and I just found this:

http://www.icecreamusa.com/klondike/history/
The origins of the Klondike® bar can be traced to Switzerland and the Isaly Family, a family known for fine dairy products. William Isaly founded the Isaly Dairy Company around the beginning of the 1900s. William had four sons, Chester, Samuel, Charles, and Henry, all of whom had a hand in the family business. The company history credits the invention of the Klondike® bar to Chester Isaly, but brother Sam Isaly claims it was his father's invention. According to a 1922 article in the Youngstown, Ohio Vindicator, Chester Isaly (brother of Samuel) had given the newspaper staff several dozen Klondike bars to try.

The original Klondike® bar was handmade by dipping square slices of ice cream into pans of rich, delicious Swiss milk chocolate. The family produced the bars in Ohio just outside of Youngstown and in Pittsburgh. There also were Isaly Dairy Stores where the bars and other dairy products were sold. By the 1940s, the Isaly family had seven dairy plants that supplied more than 300 Isaly Dairy Stores. Klondike® bars were sold in all of the stores.

It is believed that the Klondike® bar was named after the Klondike River in Canada's west central Yukon Territory. The Klondike River was the site of the 1890s Gold Rush.

Let me just clarify for those who don't think chocolate is good for you:

The good and healthy chocolate full of antioxidants is dark chocolate full of cacao beans. The same antioxidants that you will find in tea and in vegetables. Just as Stoo said before about Switzerland. You'll find the same in a lot of Europe. Heck even the Mayans used it as currency and ate and drank the stuff- I doubt that they were fat and unhealthy. ;)

The other stuff such as dairy (regular) and white chocolate, which is mostly coco butter and sugar, is the least heathier stuff (and yes more fattening).

In any case, I don't see why you can't treat yourself to a bit of chocolate (unless you're allergic) once in a while. Afterall, fish can't live in water that's too pure, if you get my drift.

If you don't believe me, there's a thing called Google. :p Research it.

In any case, I probably ate more of chocolate when I was younger. I still have chocolate but due to my own health conditions, I'm kind of limited to how much and to certain ingredients.

My point was about the health aspects of chocolate, IndyWolf15. It had nothing to do with historic or racial prejudices. The same could be argued about those Golly Wog dolls from the stories of Blyton.

In any case, just to clarify again, no I do not support racial prejudices and slavery.

I may not be black but as a grandchild of Italian and Hungarian immigrants and having a last name that many get stuck on, I have had my share of racist jibes at me especially at school as a kid, being called a "wog" which is almost as bad as calling a black person a "n" word.

Also your article talks about dairy (regular) chocolate, not the healthy dark chocolate. The dairy chocolate, I already admitted, is unhealthy when you eat too much and too often.

So racism is an important issue to me, but is beside the point of the argument on the issue of health raised in this thread.

In any case, this racist issue with regard to chocolate, that you have raised is an American historic issue, not directly connected to the rest of the world.

Belgium manufactures a wealth of healthy and unhealthy chocolate, but they clearly indicate which is which. I visited a chocolate factory in Bruges a short time ago, with some native friends that I'd met there. We all observed a chocolate-making show by a chocolatier, who distinguished between the kinds of chocolate that are healthy and unhealthy. After the show and tour, many tourists were buying up the light chocolate while most Europeans purchased the dark. I asked my friends if this was typical, and they confirmed that it was.

Nice to meet you Kiki Kat. I think it's part of the nature of online forums where folks' words go without emotions or expressions that there is a significant amount of misinterpretation, coupled with the general lack of nonchalance that is typical in social life. Few (intelligent) forums I've been to are as casual and polite as you might expect in a real-life social setting. Still, a good number of folks have a sense of humour here. It's spoiled sometimes by those who don't, however...

I bought the milk chocolate, which is some of the best chocolate I've ever tried. Actually, I tried the imported brand in Canada, and it didn't taste half as fresh or rich. Always buy straight from the source for best quality!

Hmmm...I had to look on the keyboard to see if "g" was near "p". I thought not.

If you don't mind, what's the etymology of "wog"? I've heard"With Out Papers"...

There are two meanings for the word. One meaning being "Western Oriental Gentleman", refering to the Chinese in the late 1800s who chose to wear Western clothes and follow certain Western traditions. The other meaning a virus or a bug.

The latter meaning was the one used by White English speaking Australians to refer to Non-English Speaking European immigrants during the time of the White Australia Policy which was abolished during the Vietnam War, so Vietnamese refugees could come into Australia for a new life. The White Australia Policy basically made non-English Europeans jump through all sorts of hoops to be allowed into Australia- one of which included a test of the English language. Though once you got into Australia, the White English Australians many of which were the descendants of the First Settlers (the vast majority convicts) and those who moved from the UK had many glass ceilings and racism towards the immigrants, and many immigrants despite intelligence and even qualifications, were forced to manufacturing and construction type work. Certain suburbs were full of certain types of immigrants and the immigrants even built and made clubs for themselves.

This is an old world I'm talking about though there is still racist streaks within people, like all societies. When I was a kid, there wasn't as many Asians, Africans and Middle Eastern people, as there are now and so a lot of kids were still into the idea of making fun of kids with strange names even if they don't even sound rude. Nowdays, they get punished pretty harshly for it- back then, it really was a brief telling off or telling me to just get over it.

Sounds like everywhere else in the world at one point or another!

I always laugh at the notion of Austrailia as a penal colony...I guess if you prescribe to the notion of "British Justice"!

...a moment of silence as we try to remember the names of all those from the Sudbury area who so gallantly gave their lives to keep China British.

So next question: how does a wog mean a bug or a virus?
