While it's not even been a year since the critically acclaimed Nintendo DSi made it's triumphal debut in the United States earlier this year in the first week of April Nintendo has already made it clear their not just going to entice teens and tweens but they are also aiming at young adults and seniors.

http://www.1up.com/media?id=3767035&type=lg

On November 21st 2009 Japan will receive a new iteration of the DSi called Nintendo LL which will be released in Q1 of 2010 in North America and Europe as Nintendo DSi in three environmentally friendly colors Wine Red, Deep Brown and Natural White. This Cadillac of the Nintendo DS system will come with 93% bigger screens and more built in software besides Moving Memo Pad and the famed and user friendly Nintendo DSi Opera Browser. Nintendo has also expressed that this is a more direct aim at the iPod and is indeed their tool for winning the older audience (howbeit I've already seen many adults hunched over their Nintendo DSi systems in shopping malls all across Atlanta, GA.) Furhermore CNN has even reported that both the DS and DSi are popular with adult women and so we know Nintendo has won and news reports are always reminding us the DS sells more than the PSP.

http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/gamelife/2009/10/dsixl_size.jpg

The new larger DSi will also come with a larger battey that has an incredible battery life span on the lowest setting lasting the user for 13 to 17 hours. Man, that's good. So heres to what I'll be saving my holiday money for.

Well not all. I mean Agent Crab has both the DS Lite and DSi. I simply think some people are shocked that the DSi is getting a Cadillac iteration right after it just became available. However it is of no surprise to me and I'm all for it as I am a Nintendo fanboy and simply disliking Sony PlayStation to some extent while admiring their LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers and PSP GO.

Nevertheless I pray that I will have a Nintendo DSi XL as soon as it is released to North American shores. No doubt I'll pre-order it at GameStop.

Lordy Lordy...

They DSi didn't come out not long ago and Nintendo pumped out a new one.

I alredy own a regular DS, Two Lites, and a DSi. Not too mention the orginal brick Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, colour, GBA, and two SPs.

A DSi XL seems pointless in my opinion. It more seems like for people who have larger hands or have a harder time seeing the smaller screen from the DSi or Lite.

Just like the PSP Go. It's another pointless machine. You're better of with a regular PSP, unless you enjoy downloading the games on the Go.

Instead of looking at your complaints lets focus on the new capabilities of the DSi XL. I.E. the DSi XL will be 3G and will be the equlivent of both the PSP GO and iPod Touch making it the Cadillac of DS systems. Plus Iwata has said 3G will be free on the DSi XL and screens will be HD plus he has hinted at video playback on the DSi XL.

Free 3G, HD gaming, Videos, bigger screens and Golden Sun DS are simply to good to pass up.

But, why didn't they just do this with the last "upgrade". People aren't made of money, and they don't wanna buy a new upgraded DS every year. It's crazy and stupid IMO.

DocWhiskey

Exactly. Nintendo should hold out on all these improved modifications so they could just release 2 versions of a console.

There's the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi 2, DSi 2 Lite, DSi 2 Legit 2 Quit, DSi with a live Badger attached to it.

This one's brighter! This one's thinner! This one's bigger! This one has a glory hole! This one is made of bees!

REAL LIVE BEES.

It's crazy really. Especially for the parents who have to buy these things for their kids. Must get confusing as hell. Since when do handhelds get re-released in a bigger size and it's an improvement? Besides Atari systems of course.

I'm not a geek so this is of no concern to me. I'd rather plant flowers. But how can they thrive if my DS is made of bees?

Nooooo!

Your right, my mom just bought me this darn DSi and now there releasing a new one! There rapping us of our MONEY! And I'm getting tired of it. They can make a DSi with everything it needs and not make several diffrent DS's back-to-back. Americans can barely afford a house and money milkers are trying to take every bit of the little money we have, ITS A SHAME!

Wow. This is the first I have heard of this.
Currently I have..
5 original DS's
20 Ds lite's
3 DSi's

My DS buying has slowed to a stop since I started buying Indy stuff this summer. (I have a one-track mind when it comes to collecting)
But I will have to get one when it comes out I guess.
Now if only they came out with an Indiana Jones edition...

Do you collect everything Nintendo or video gamewise and buy every color variation etc.? if so, that must be an expensive hobby.

I am currently only actively collecting DS systems (And promo stylus)
I try to buy each special edition that comes out. Not different colors. (Although I do have quite a few different colors)
I keep them sealed, so I have to buy extra ones for family gatherings. Sometimes you can get up to 16 people playing together. It is good family fun.
I still have my VIC-20, Atari 5200, C-128D, C-64, NES, Amiga 500, Sega Master System, GameGear, Sega CD, 32X, LaserActive, CDX, Saturn, NOMAD, Neo Pocket Color, 3DO, Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance SP, GameCube, DS, DS lite, Wii, XBox360, & DSi.
But I have way more DS's than any other console. Although I believe I have an extra 1 or 2 Sega Master system, Dreamcast, and Gamecube still sealed new in box. Not worth much now I'm sure, for it keeps me entertained.

Ok, I understand. That's really awesome, ROB. Gaming is such a huge thing and it's great to know that the systems themselves aren't "discarded" by everybody when a "new' model comes out. I myself have an NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Dreamcast, Gameboy advance, DS Lite, and Gameboy pocket. I don't consider myself a collector of these, I keep them simply because I love playing their games.

Lonesome_Drifter that is the exact point, that is the very heart of the matter.

Nintendo like Disney has power over the consumer.

Look at the tally from last year. I remember people said the same thing before the release of the DSi in both Japan and North America and then Nintendo did it again. People bought the DSi and Dragon Quest IX Defenders of the Starry Sky. The DSi actually sold completely out in Japan. Then it was pre-ordered to death in North America. GameStop stores has to begin plastering messages on their stores explaining that the DSi has been pre-ordered out of stock. They simply did not have enough to keep up with the demand. Not to mention the fact that almost every store was sold out of Wii systems and Wii Fit and I know from experience because our family had to hunt three days in a row before we were able to purchase our Wii.

It's not so much about money as it is about fandom. Nintendo has more fans than any other video game company. Nintendo is the Walt Disney of the video game industry.

Nintendo knows that there will always been a loyal consumer base ready to cash in on Nintendo's innovative creations.

I for one like the idea of being able to collect the various creations of Nintendo ranging from the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi. It helps one to see how far we've come and where we're headed.

Technology cannot stand still simply because someone wants it to. Today the PSP Go and tomorrow the PSP Infinity, today the Wii tomorrow the Wii HD. There is so much to be done. Yesterday it was Windows Vista and today it's Windows 7 and who knows what tomorrow holds?

Agent Crab

Nintendo just likes money. However, stuff like Mario and Zelda have been going strong, if you ignore the CDi games.

You also have to remember, Nintendo's been around since the 1800's. They made Playing Cards back then.

The GBA Micro wasn't worth it.

I never said technology should stop progressing. But, the only upgrades the new DS has is a slightly bigger screen and a few other minimal features. That's the same as the Madden games. Each year they pump out a new title with just a few new features.
It's fine to build upon an original concept, but to throw out a new DS every year is too much.
And, you are right. Nintendo knows it has a rabid following. In my experience; Nintendo fanboys are the worst. They'll lap up anything Nintendo feeds them and while licking the bowl; they'll ask for seconds.

I'm a big fan of the Sony brand. But, I never went out and bought the Slim when they lowered the price and added a bigger HD. I still have my original 40 gig, and I plan on keeping it.

Furthermore I am quite sure that there are major improvements to the DSi XL that Nintendo just is not letting on to. I never was really a huge fan of handhelds. I've never even owned the original PSP.

I got the original PSP when it first came out and found it pointless. It was a major black hole in my wallet. Besides the expensive price for the handheld you had to buy a bigger memory stick and the games were just as much as the console games yet worse graphically and overall, not to mention the UMD movies were pretty much double the price as DVDs but with NO special features or anything for that matter. The web browsing was pointless seeing as I had a laptop. It was a foolish purchase by me and I returned it in 2 days.

Don't know why I brought this up though.

DS lite batteries don't cost much. Most cost $15.00 and under. All you need is to purchase one or take it to a place like Batteries Plus of some battery replacement place. You may need to furnish them with a screw driver.

I don't see the need for a DS XL. It's just like the GBA micro. The Micro wasn't that great. The Micro couldn't even play orginal Gameboy games like the GBA or GBA SP did.

The DS Lite and DS can't play orginal Gameboys games.

Bigger screens on a hand held really isn't that endurring. Unless you have poor vision or giant hands, then get a DSi XL. HD gaming isn't imporant, either. I still know people who still own their orginal DS systems from 2004. I still have one, as well for two lites and a DSi. I hardly use my DSi, unless one of my lites needs charging. My orginal DS still works, but it has four dead pixels on it that are distracting. If not, then there is no need to toss away the older DSi and fap over the new DSi that isn't needed.

It's just like people who sold their PS3's in order to buy the PS3 slim. I have a PS2 slim, because my PS2 failed to read PS1 amd blue backed PS2 games. Then decided to die out on me.

I mean, c'mon. Do you honestly need a new system or handheld when a new one gets annouced? It's just like with the PSP Go.

I like Nintendo, but I dislike how some of it's fans are. Most of the fans are overly zealous and stuck up. It makes the real fans look bad. The best Nintendo system I owned and still own was the SNES. Why? Best varity of games. Same with the NES. Both consoles raged strong for years. Even in Japan, the Super Famicom existed until the late 90's. That is strong.

What a great post, Agent Crab. You said about all there is to say.
And, yes the SNES was popular in America even well after the PSX came out. Ever heard of a little titled called Donkey Kong Country that re-sparked the craze for the SNES well into the 3D era.

However I understand where you're coming from and I appreciate your opinion Agent Crab.

It's want... not need. You don't need a DSi XL.

Well here is the official Japanese packaging for the upcoming Nintendo DSi XL know as Nintendo DSi LL in Japan.

That's quite a big box and as you can see the screens are much bigger than those of the past DS iterations.

The gentlemen at GameStop says it is to be sold for about $219.99 dollars here in the United States and I guess that the box art will be about the same here in North America.

Here are a few more Nintendo goodies.

A beautiful Legend of Zelda mosiac created by Alyse.

Our dear Alyse says she was inspired to create this beautiful artful tribute to the hero in green by "many of the stained glass artwork from Wind Waker."

Dragon Quest IX is Q3's top-selling game

Despite the handicap of not being for sale in most of the world, Dragon Quest IX for the DS sold more copies than any other game in the world between July and September of this year, according to a Top Global Markets report. With 3,925,000 copies sold in Japan, it outsold the number two best-selling game for that period, Wii Sports Resort, by almost 1,000,000 copies -- and that game was available worldwide.

Following Wii Sports Resort in the top five: Madden NFL 2010 at 2,612,000, Pokemon HeartGold And SoulSilver at 2,068,000, and Halo 3: ODST, which was only out for a week in Q3, at 1,847,000 copies. All these games have plenty more sales ahead of them as the holidays approach!
