Didn't know he had cancer. I'm sorry to hear it. Though I have to disagree on one thing (that a few articles have said), that being that John Lasseter is the one to lead the Disney company in a new direction.

I am huge traditional Disney fan and I just don't think Lasseter's work matches up to the standards set. Personal opinion, I digress.

Interesting that he pretty much was there at Disney till the end. Must of been a good distraction from cancer. Also will be interesting to see if any of his children or grandchildren will have much more to do with the company.

Damn! I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet him at the last Pirates premier at Disneyland.

I'll disagree about Lasseter, VI. I've been quite impressed with his work over the years, and he gets extra points for strong arming the company into bankrolling The Princess and the Frog. Which is a definite return to form for Disney Feature Animation.

One of the things I really enjoyed about Roy was his candor. On one of the featurettes for Princess he basically said that the movies Disney had recently put out weren't very good. That's why they weren't popular, not because traditional animation was "unviable."

Ah, jeez. That is a shame. A lesser man might have walked away from the company, but especially in the last 10 years or so, he really fought for what he thought his family name should stand for. I haven't seen that featurette, but that's entirely in keeping with what I'd expect from him.

A quote of his from the Times obit (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/17/arts/television/17disney.html?ref=obituaries) is one of the better statements I've seen on where past artwork should fit in with future projects:

“The goal is to look over our shoulder and see Snow White and Pinocchio and Dumbo standing there saying, ‘Be this good.’ We shouldn’t be intimidated by them; they’re an arrow pointing someplace.”

Roy kept the company in check when Eisner started going down hill. Coincidencial timing too as Walt passed away on the 15th of Dec 43 years ago. RIP Roy.

On a side note, on one hand Eisner gets a thumbs up for something. We wouldn't be here if he didn't greenlight Raiders when he was at Paramount.

I'm sorry Roy E. Disney has died. I am also very sorry that Disney has in a way fallen from grace these last few years. I to, like Violet Indy am very much concerned with the direction in which Disney has been going.

I'm very much disgusted with all the rubbish like The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana (Milley Cyrus), The Wizards of Wavorly Place, Pucca, That's So Raven, Selena Gomez, Camp Rock, Phinesas and Ferb and all the other junk like Lizzie McGuire and so on and so forth.

However I don't agree that John Lasseter is bad decision for the future of Walt Disney. I like what he has done and I hope that he continues to create great new, family friendly and unique Disney products. I think he has done a wonderful job with things like Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Ratatouille.

If Disney can just get away from the teeny junk I mentioned above and return to their magical roots as they are doing with the upcoming Princess and the Frog and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland I know Disney will continue to be the magical company Mr. Disney has envisioned it becoming.

Hopefully Jerry Bruckheimer will create a new Zorro movie after he is done with Big Thunder Mountain and The Lone Ranger. It would be nice to see Orlando Bloom or Keanu Reeves cast as Diego DeLaVega (Zorro).

I'd like to see Disney get the rights back to Zorro. Who owns the rights now? Sony? I liked the Antonio Banderas Zorros, but I'd like to see Don Diego de la Vega back on the screen. Not sure who could play him though.

Goddamn it anyways! Their next film better be dedicated to him.

RIP Roy! You kept Disney at least somewhat respectable in my eyes...

What a sad and terrible loss.

He seemed like a real stand up guy and he did leagues for Disney's animation division.

He will be missed.

Disney is doomed

Nurhachi, Disney has been doomed since the new millennium. The Disney Channel isn't even the Disney Channel anymore, it's the Pseudo Disney Channel.

Guys, far be it from me to suggest we're spitting on his legacy, but part of Lasseter's prominence and power at the studio right now was Roy E. Disney's idea. He's basically the lead chosen voice of what Walt might have wanted now that Roy's gone, and he was put in place as such. So I don't think they're doomed. The Disney Channel's going to be what it is, and I confess that I'm not happy with it, but as long as that's succeeding the more the true believer creative types like Lasseter and Tony Baxter at Imagineering and so forth can get away with things that aren't, on the surface of it, pure money-making ventures.

So I wouldn't be too worried. I think the legacy is in the best hands that it's been in for awhile right now.

Well I agree with Attila. Because Lasseter's is not the actual "Darth Sidious" behind all the hideous and dismal content on the Walt Disney Channel which I now call the poopy teeny tweeny channel as it is no longer worthy of the title "Disney Channel." Yes, the man behind the junk is Rich Ross.

Below is his dismal image.

If Disney fires him perhaps we might see the disappearance of the droopy loopy Jonas Bros. and company (i.e. Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, Demi Lovato and Camp Rock).

However I must say that Disney XD (formally known as Jetix) is far better than the Disney Channel. It's even sponsored by GameStop and airs better content like Naruto: Shippuden, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and a great new movie called Skyrunners.

Why would Disney even consider dropping those shows, Redeemed? I agree that those shows are awful, but just look at how much money Hannah Montana had made Disney, and even the Jonas Brothers has made them a nice bundle.
Disney is a company, and the point of it is to make money. Also, Disney is for kids first and foremost.
Kids like that crap, so why take that away from them just to air stuff us adults like? That's not very fair IMO.

What I think Disney should do is start a new channel that leans more toward people like us, and let the kiddos keep the regular Disney channel for themselves.

Yes, I guess you're right. However it's dementing the minds or children who're already demented if you catch my drift. At lest the stuff Disney channel aired when I was younger contained something of substance that helped build mental and moral intellectual character.

I mean Hannah Montana is the most mindless thing aside from senseless garbage that That's So Raven is. I mean Raven is fine to admire (nothing against her as a cute person) and look but her show is RUBBISH. What happened to American Dragon and things like House of Mouse and the great animated Tarzan show? Enough with this wanna "I be sexy like Milley Cyrus when I'm 11 years old" junk. I think I am gonna puke. Man, Twilight is not as sick as that stuff.

I agree with you that Disney needs to make a channel for an older audience of lest 16 to 29 year olds. It could also air classics like Zorro and Davy Crockett and new stuff like Pirates of the Caribbean and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, plus anime like Dragon Ball and Final Fantasy and original programs like Skyrunners like they are doing with Disney XD. I mean Disney XD is a great channel.

Toon Disney was way better. Naruto is a fruity-loopy TV show for preteens who think Ninjas come in differnt colours and have the personailty of a slug with salt.

What is so childish about Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers or even Gargoyles?

Naruto's more childish anyway.

The Aladdin Cartoon Kicked so much ass.

Well I was not saying that Toon Disney was a bad thing. It's simply did not appeal to me the way the new Disney XD does. I enjoyed some of the programming on Toon Disney like The Weekenders, House of Mouse, Power Rangers, Digimon and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

It was simply that other programs like Lloyd in Space, Tarzan and Jane, The Lion King 1/2, The Proud Family, Kim Possible were simply childish and outright silly in my personal opinion. I mean there was nothing wrong with the programs but I simply did not like them.

I like things like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Naruto:Shippuden, The Legend of Zelda, Oban Star Racers, Wolverine and the X-Men, Iron-Man, The Batman, Ben10 and programs of that nature.

Anyway every man to his own taste. I'm not saying that Toon Disney was no good. I have nothing against you guys if you don't like Disney XD or like it. I was just sharing my opinion.

You're a strange.. strange man, RC. A very strange one, but I don't mind. You're fine with me.

Anime and manga are two diffenrt things.

Unless you were talking about the DiC Legend of Zelda cartoon... that wasn't an anime.

But seriosuly.. Naruto is about as childish as those TV shows you mentioned. Considering I don't know many people over the age of 17 adoring Naruto and assuming it's a well told story. Considering it suffers from Deus ex Machina. Not too mention, most of the fans behave like kindergardners as is. Disney XD is kinda the fall of most things. Toon Disney had action cartoons like Gargoyles, Aladdin and even Hercules. Gargoyles was pretty badass as a Disney cartoon.

Lloyd in Space was stupid. I ignored it.

Lion King 1 1/2 was a spin off movie, which was... okay.

I have a question. Have you ever watched anything Disney? Just ignore the flood of Jonas brothers and Mily crap. I mean stuff like Mickey, Minnie, The classic movies like Snow White or even Aladdin?

RedeemedChild
12-24-2009, 05:17 PM
Well Agent Crab I guess we all have to get used to ignoring Camp Rock and Jonas bros.

To answer your question, yes I like classic Disney programs like Sleeping Beauty, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and more. BTW r u on Skype Agent Crab?

I've seen the classic DIC The Legend of Zelda cartoons and I find them interesting but not as enjoyable as the Zelda games.

However I read briefly volume 1 of the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords manga and I must say that I was impressed with what I found. So far the Legend of Zelda manga seems good and I'd love to be able to watch the Nintendo Animal Crossing cartoon. I've found parts of it on youtube. However from what di
