View Full Version : Can we get Indy around the globe ?
Le Saboteur

In closing, I would like to say thank you to Inky for setting this up, and a BIG thanks to my friend, Le Saboteur, for helping me get Indy to Billy Ray in time. Not being a collector of Indy figures, this experience has really made me want to own one and has rejuvenated the passion I had for modeling when I was a kid & early teen (Tamiya & MPC ruled in the late 70s & early 80s!)
I apologize for the delay in replying. I've been in Big Sur the past couple of weeks.
Glad to see Indy made it to Afghanistan! And in a decent amount of time! I was happy to slingshot Indy back out to Billy Ray, and keep everything moving forward. Thanks for entrusting the task to me Stoo! I look forward to getting him back here in the future.
Like everybody has said, Stoo, great snaps! You've really set the bar with these, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
Jack said I could catch the Pan Am Clipper to Afghanistan somewhere around here.

Shoot ! Sorry all, I'll correct them ASAP...
To paraphrase Chief Brody,
"We're gonna need a bigger map."
Amazing work, Stoo! You have set the bar incredibly high! Can't wait to see Billy Ray's snaps whenever he gets the chance to throw 'em up.
Save travels, Dr. Jones - and especially to all those who cross your path.

@Stoo - PM me your address again and I'll make sure you get your own Indy. Least I can do in return for your excellent contributions. Seeing the diary again has made me realise that my entry was a bit crap - however, I was pushed for time in sending Indy out, and I hope to rectify the sparseness of that first page when I get him back.
@Lance - yep, the map is going to get horribly complicated soon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@Le Saboteur - your "slingshot" was invaluable to the success of this project. Hopefully you'll get a little more time to enjoy Indy and introduce him to the sights when he's back on the West Coast later this year.
@XanaduMel - your location is duly noted.
Map updated (corrected)...

I've been investigating the cost of producing a small (A6) photo book containing the best shots from this thread once Indy's journey is complete. Would anyone be interested ?

Seeing the diary again has made me realise that my entry was a bit crap - however, I was pushed for time in sending Indy out, and I hope to rectify the sparseness of that first page when I get him back.Thank you, Inky, for your extremely generous offer but I'm a bit hesitant to take you up on it. Why? You would be deprived of one less figure for your AWESOME custom work.
While giving my diary pages some 'wear & tear' I thought of reproducing a miniature coffee cup stain but didn't get around to it. You can add one to your page!
(Speaking of coffee cups, I regret not doing another perilous 'boil & pop' photo with a Canadian mug like I did with the Swiss one. It would be fun if there was a similar shot with a mug from each country/state to make a running gag throughout Indy's travels. Just an idea...)
I've been investigating the cost of producing a small (A6) photo book containing the best shots from this thread once Indy's journey is complete. Would anyone be interested ?Interested? For sure. (AlivePoet even wrote about doing the same thing in the earlier stages of this thread.) There is a company which makes custom, hardcover books and sells them on-line. The reason I'm suggesting them is because they only produce the books as each order is placed so you won't be stuck with a box/boxes of leftover, unsold books in your house. A good friend of mine has used it twice already and the quality is great and much cheaper than going a printer. (Should you choose to go this route, I can get the website address from him.)
Either way, if you need any help putting it together, let me know as this is part of my profession.;)
To paraphrase Chief Brody,
"We're gonna need a bigger map."Ha ha!:D I still can't believe no one from CHICAGO has stepped up to the plate!:whip:

@Billy Ray - Wow. In those last two pictures you've already delivered on the crazy awesomeness that seeing Indy in the Middle East promised. Is that your billet ? Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve...
@Stoo - Seriously man, I have a stack of "Raiders" Indy's - happy to part with one :) Apologies for not spotting the comment from AlivePoet - I'll be sure to speak to both of you before considering putting a photobook together. Actually, I might want to pick your brains about documenting an Indy idea I have for the 30th Anniversary. Heard of the Vader Project ? Now imagine it with the Fertility Idol from Raiders...

This looks promising...It sure does. Nice way to begin, Billy Ray, and I'm looking forward to the rest of Indy's Afghan adventure!
Seriously man, I have a stack of "Raiders" Indy's - happy to part with one:)O.K. If you insist!:D Now to make some room in my PM Inbox.

Now imagine it with the Fertility Idol from Raiders...No need to apologize. No, I hadn't heard of the Vader Project but looked it up. Feel free to ask me anything. As far as a book is concerned, the hardest part would be choosing the best photos. I predict we may end up with a total of over 1000 shots.
Again, great idea, Inky. This thread is destined to become one of the all-time classics at The Raven. (5108 hits in less than 2 months!)

Thanks guys...I know the first batch isn't too exciting but I wanted to document Indy's trip from arrival to departure. Will post more soon, it is kind of slow going today as I had to figure out a work around to post them from work and I had to post upload one image at a time.
@inky Yeah, that's my little partioned off area of the tent. Not the best pic, but it is hard to get it all in frame. I realize now that I should have made my bed first :o

LOL, yes, the VERY Short Round method;)
For the record, Indy is not really driving an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, the vehicle in the next to the last image). I just took a little dramatic license there. He is actually "driving" a beat up Toyota mini van:rolleyes:

@Billy Ray - kudos to you and your buddies for getting Indy into some once-in-a-lifetime shots (are you sure you should have photographed those 'strategic' sites ?!). Your narrative is coming together nicely too - would love to hear additional Indy anecdotes from the base if you have them. For some reason, Indy in the desert just seems perfect for the character - and that touch of Afghan dust on his boots in the last shot is possibly the most authentic piece of customising I've ever seen...
@Rocket - any sign of Lil' Indy yet ?
@Stoo - forgot to comment on your Pith Helmet fella ! Outstanding !

@Billy Ray: The infamous Poo Pond!:D Your pics are getting better and I still can't believe Indy is that close to Kandahar. Who would've ever imagined it? Make sure you thank your buddies for us. The photo of him hanging on the sign and covering his face at the Poo Pond gave me a good chuckle. Nice Sallah reference, too! Like Inky said, some more personal anecdotes would be cool. Can't wait to see Indy's risky drive-by at the ammo dump!
Question for you: What is he sitting on in the last picture?
@Rocket: It's been 8 days since Indy left the Land of the Heathen Hordes*. I suspect he'll be arriving very soon.

We have a winner, Indy is sitting on the side view mirror of the aforementioned Toyota P.O.S.
Can't take credit for the Poo Pond pics, one of my buddys took one for the team there. I was planning on taking him down there, but definitely not looking forward to that chore. Thankfully he took the initiative. Also, the wind was in his favor :p
I will post the ammo dump pic but, unfortunately, it is pretty blurry. I wasn't willing to take an ass-whupping by a couple of U.S. Marines just for a photo op;)

That link was nasty!
“Wow, who has to live next to that?” I said to two American service members as we drove near the pond in their S.U.V.
“We do,” they said in unison.
“Do you get used to it after awhile?” I continued naïvely. “Do you get used to the smell?”
“Never,” said the man, who was driving. “Not for a second.”
There ought to be a special campaign medal just for serving alongside the Poo Pond.

I couldn't really come up with any witty captions for this series of pics, so I thought I would just let them speak for themselves.
A couple of funny stories though:
A little kid tried to trade me some shell bracelets for Indy. I was half tempted, there is no beach anywhere near here, so shells must be worth a lot. ;)
Also, one of the vendors saw me snapping a pic with Indy and got all excited. He kept saying "What is that, what is that?" I showed him and he thought it was the funniest thing he ever saw...he kept saying, over and over again "It was a little man!" to the other guys at his stall.
Should I be asking what your life-changing experience in Egypt was ???Would be happy to answer but not in this thread!;) Trip to Cairo (http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=15965)
@Billy Ray: Very cool! Photo #6 is my fave of the latest lot. The top pic looks like a WW2 artillery piece. Was that captured from the Taliban?

Fantastic photos, Billy!
The top pic looks like a WW2 artillery piece. Was that captured from the Taliban?
It's probably current British armament! It's what we're leaving behind after our troops pull out, as our new government has checked the accounts and certified us to be as poor as church mice.
The bazaar didn't look as expected - it looks a bit like some of our markets. And, yes the story of the boy desperately wanting Indy does put things into perspective.

Indiana Jones and the Angel of Death...I love it!
It leapt out at me as soon as I brought up the wiki page on the AC-130!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130
I live in Herefordshire, within 20 miles of the ex-RAF base of Credenhill, which is now home to the 22 Special Air Service Regiment, so I always wonder what the significance of the Hercules flights are.
RAF jets screaming low overhead in pairs are a much more common sight, though. Local folklore always had it that they used our village post office as a target for low-level runs!
Before the 65th D-Day celebrations we were treated to hours of aerial rehearsals by AWACS and refueling aircraft! :D
But I digress... :)

Indy at the pond (the real pond, not the Poo Pond). It's pretty neat, all the various nations have little floats out there. Kind of hard to make out but the French have a miniature Eiffel Tower, and the British have a Loch Ness Monster, somebody has a battleship, and there is also a Texas flag out there too

Great shots Billy Ray, it's been really Indy-like to see him in some Military company early on in an adventure.
Did you get yourself in a picture?
Billy Ray
07-11-2010, 09:14 AM
Unfortunatelly I didn't get any pics with me in them, we had planned to take some pics with all of us, but just ran out of time. Things were a little hairy at the time I mailed him back and I had an opportunity to get Indy to the post office, so I took it. I definitely didn't want to delay his trip any longer.
I've probably got enough pics for a couple more sets...I had more than I thought I did.
Not sure on the origin of the artillery piece. It could actually be Soviet, there is a lot of junk that they left around here.
...
Ok, well I was wrong. I am 99.99% sure that it is actually a 76.2 mm Divisional Gun ZIS-3 M1942:Thanks a lot for getting the bottom of the identity for the ordanance piece. You went above & beyond the call of duty, there!;) I suspect the 2 busted up armoured vehicles ("this one has seen better days...") are leftover Russian junk, too?
This thing packs a lot of heat! Behind me you can see the L60 40mm Bofors cannon and the M102 105mm howitzer
...and the 25mm GAU-12 Gatling Gun...Yeeeee Ha!This was obviously the special surprise you mentioned a few pages back. Love the Indy-riding-the-Gatling photo! Reminds me of Dr. Strangelove. I'm semi-familiar with the C-130 through military flight simulator experience but not the AC. "Packs a lot of heat!" No kidding...WICKED photos, Billy Ray & Co.
We occasionally get Hercules flying low over us, but I don't think they're packing like yours! In the world of flying machines, the Hercules is a REAL PIG! Who would ever thought of having an air-mounted Howitzer!

Talk on this thread (especially from Stoo) of T E Lawrence led me to do a little investigation and I'll now be visiting his Clouds Hill cottage, the site of the military hospital in Bovington where he died and also his memorial at Wareham - so do let me know if there are any details you'd like photos of etc.

Thanks everyone! Indy's visit was definitely a lot of fun for everyone, we even have his visit to the Poo Pond as the dektop for our morale computer in our office. Visitors always get a kick out of it, and then have to see the rest of the pics. It's funny how I thought this was going to be a clandestine operation on my part, but it turned out being a group effort.
Anyway, here is the next to the last set of pics:

W-O-W! Amazing. That last shot of the memorial is indeed a nice one. Too much to comment on but I LOVE the photos of the airport, the flags, the sign post and (especially) the Post Office....and, yeah, the tree really jumped out at me when first seeing the pic.
Indy in front of the Texas Armed Forces compound. Just kidding, it's one of the contracter's compounds;)"Texas for the Texians!";)

I don't think we should consider Indy to be MIA just yet. However it does raise some interesting questions - firstly, how long should we wait before we consider him to be lost and secondly, is it in the spirit of the project to send out a duplicate figure to complete the journey ? I'd value your opinions...
Lance Quazar
07-14-2010, 04:45 AM
I agree, we shouldn't give up on Indy for a while yet. I think a month after shipping is a good time to get seriously worried.
If the figure truly is lost, then sending a replacement is the right thing to do. The show must go on! Granted, the journal and "extra" items will be gone, too, but I think it would still be preferable to just giving up.
A lot of fun is getting the chance to see a glimpse out of the lives and locales of the Raven community. We shouldn't give that up just because of a potential postal predicament.

Nah, I wouldn't consider him lost yet either. Like I mentioned before, military mail can be horribly slow at times. He could be held up anywhere along the way.
But for arguments sake, I say go ahead and send a duplicate Indy after about a month. The project must be kept going! That said, if Rocket isn't in here *****ing and moaning, I suspect it just might have arrived.

Well, they finally did it...they talked and talked about removing the labs back in the 1930s, but in 1938 Professor Morey suggested that the laboratory be used for the temporary exhibition of mosaics excavated at Antioch.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4093/4812726828_dedd34a438_b.jpg
He even suggested they MOVE the building to join to the Museum of Historic Art as a new wing. The building did serve temporarily as the "Epigraphical Museum" until 1941, housing a display of the casts made by Princeton professors and students during the Syrian expeditions of the 1890s.
The Class of 1877 Biological Laboratory, which stood to the north of the location of the present Chapel, was demolished in May 1946 to clear the way for the Firestone Library.

Alright, apparently there IS no other way in! So I was just about to break something, (the door looked less likely than my foot), I remembered John at the desk and decided to simply ask! A gentle answer and wrath as it were. Lo and behold he simply said: "If I don't see it, I guess it didn't happen." With that he turned away mentioning "The Map Room" on the second floor...turn right at the top of the stairs.

I'm NOT kidding, there's an exhibit covering early explorers from Magellan to Cook. One room, to the right as you enter, has the contents of Capt James (T?)Cook's study, a fantastic four foot globe a desk and other accoutrema, (Accoutrema? What is that #%!), but it was lights out locked up behind glass.
So I bit the bullet and told John the Administrator the story and though he wouldn't let me in THAT room, the quote above is verbatim. He snuck me into the map room! Well turned a blind eye. Amazing. Still some good stuff coming up...

A copy should do just as well...Rome, check! Constantinople, check! Antioch? Check! The original was probably carved in marble around 12 B.C.
This printed map is from 1624 from a 1598 copperplate engraving. The information on it is MUCH older! The oldest information probably goes back to before 79 AD since Pompeii is indicated. Other temporal indications can be drawn from Jerusalem which is named Aelia Capitolina, name given in 132 AD and from Constantinople, the name commonly used since the 5th century for Byzantium.

It's not a physical and scientific description of the world, as in the work of Ptolemy, but rather a functional document comparable with present day roadmaps. The main roads of the imperial courier service, or cursus publicus, are shown, making it possible for the traveller to easily locate the stops, to calculate the distances to be covered and to organize supplies at the principal thermal places or water points.
It is an exceptional document without equivalent before the 16th century. Pilgrims, merchants or the medieval armies used similar charts in their long travels from the West towards the East. One can try to plan the route from Trier to Rome or from Rome to Jerusalem. Ydrunte (Otranto) is located opposite Scobre (Shkodër) and Dyrratio (Durrës): thus a crossing of the Strait of Otranto is possible there.
This part of the map shows the region Billy and his crew at Camp Davis put me up...thanks guys!

In my haste I jumped onto a train and found myself in Baltimore!
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Warehouse built in 1899, later sections completed in 1905, adjacent to the B&O's Camden Station and freight yard at Camden and Eutaw Streets. Often purported to be the longest brick building on the East coast, large enough to hold a thousand carloads of freight at a time, the B&O advertised.

What I'm here for is the ceiling! Paul Helleu painted the 80,000 square-foot mural of the Mediterranean sky, the October-to-March zodiac in gold leaf on cerulean blue oil with 2,500 stars. The 60 largest stars, illuminated with fiber optics mark the constellations, but used to be lit with 40-watt light bulbs that workers changed regularly by climbing above the ceiling and pulling the light bulbs out from above.

In the marble and brass base is a "secret" door with a spiral staircase to the lower level information booth.
Love the pic of Indy at the Irish pub (your local haunt?) and at Ground Zero but, I have to say, the last one of Indy on the screen reminds me of Mike Teevee from the original "Willy Wonka" film.:D.
I've spent too many hours in there, it used to be an old man's bar. Even if no one smoked while you were there, your clothes would REEK of cigarettes. On occasion enjoyed a few cigars there, but with the ban it's been gutted and fancified.
Hmmm, that WASN'T Ground Zero, but The house that Ruth built: Old Yankee Stadium. Taken from inside the 4 Subway heading downtown.
Nice Pictures!
Thanks!
So Indy knows they made a film about his adventures?
I was going for the Clouseau missing the obvious thing!

At the old folks home they're keeping him in the dark about KOTCS. He still thinks he rode off into the sunset in 1989!
Great pictures, Rocket. Indy sizing up a mount for his next convoy chase. The horse at the back's saying, "Don't even think about it, buddy!"

Awesome, awesome stuff!
Grand Central Station! Gorgeous! A glimpse of what could have been from "City of the Gods".
Wonderful images, Rocket. First rate!
Hmmm, that WASN'T Ground Zero, but The house that Ruth built: Old Yankee Stadium. Taken from inside the 4 Subway heading downtown.D'oh! My bad.:o I zeroed-in on the bulldozers and the caption, "Gone!" and jumped to a hasty conclusion. Didn't even notice the cityscape (not to mention the TREES!) and never made it to Yankee Stadium, either.:( (I got the 'House that Ruth built" caption for the 1st pic but didn't realize it was the same site.) Considering how much Indy loves baseball, he was probably pretty upset at the moment.
Anyway, even though the pic of Indy sitting in the subway is blurry, it's still one of my favourites. Reminds me of Indy on the clipper in "Raiders" and the train in "Skull".
Grand Central Station! Gorgeous! A glimpse of what could have been from "City of the Gods".Really? That makes the pics even better! Will have to read the script in full some day.
@Inky: If Indy ever makes it to Chicago, you could do a custom mini-Jack Shannon so someone could recreate scenes from the novels! Just an idea...:D

Wish I had jumped on board earlier to take Mini-Indy to see the Pyramid of...Memphis. :D

Understandable. Same thing happened to me a few months ago. Trying to sell a house and find another gig...not fun right now. That said...being part of the Indy community has really given me a cool diversion from some serious stress. And for that...I thank everyone involved.
Let me know if you want Indy to make a side trip to Memphis. It would be great to join in on the fun. This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
Hope all goes well on the job search. This too shall pass.

Yeah, James and I could give Indy a good tour around Dundee.
We could take him to the RRS Discovery and Take him to Broughty ferry castle. We could also take him to The Galleries, and there is an old fashion library near by too. If we are lucky, we may even be able to get him out to Edinburgh, Stirling or maybe even Glasgow or Perth.

Hey, this is a cool idea. I don't know if Indy has made it to New York City yet, but I'd be willing to take him on a short adventure around the city if I can get in on this!
Actually if you send it to me by Sept 12th I can take pictures of Indy in New York and bring him on my travels to San Antonio, Austin and Houston Texas (going there for a week)...
(EDIT) and now I see I just missed the boat on the New York Indy ahhaa.... but I'll be going to Texas for a week. My home state, you could mail it there and I could take Indy on a tour of Texas!

Hey guys, I'm finally back from Afghanistan!
Family and I took a trip down to Corpus Christi this past weekend. I was thinking it would have been a nice trip for Indy when the weirdest thing happened. We were about to go on a boat tour of Corpus Christi bay, walking from the parking lot to the boat, when my daughter said "Hey dad, look, it's Indiana Jones!". She had stumbled over an Indy figure in the grass! No idea how long he had been there, but he had certainly seen better days. Anyway, we "rescued" Indy and took him along on the tour. Got some pics with him as well.

Holy crap, Billy, that's amazing that you found an Indy figure like that!!!
Glad to hear that you're home.
Inky has asked me to help administrate the thread for the short term.
So here's an update on Indy's travels.
He's still with Rocket Surgeon so the two of them can attend the upcoming King Tut exhibit, then it's onto Orlando, FL for his visit with theinterchange.
No Ticket, we can certainly add you to the list.
However, I think we should stick with the current order.
Barring the opportunity for any truly unique and rare experiences for Indy, ("Hey, I'm going to Tunisia next week to visit the Raiders sets!" "Hey, I'm having brunch with John-Rhys Davies!") I think we should maintain the plan as it is presently organized.
Can't wait to see more pictures from Rocket and for Indy to hit the road again!

Good to hear you've taken the reins Lance, and that you made it State-side Billy! I PM'd Inky for his address, since he asked: ...do you think you'll be able to return Indy to the UK for the 21st of August ?
...instead of Orlando, however I didn't hear from him until recently. He suggested I PM "theinterchange" which I did but have yet to hear from him. I just contacted bonoferox and got his address, though I think I will wait a few days and bring Indy to see King Tut...
By the way I stumbled across Transformers 2 on cable the other night and I had to laugh...Shia is running thought the same spots I took picks of Indy at Princeton, the Chapel/Quad and the Library!

I happen to know that Inky recently attending a WW2 reenactment/anniversary event. I'll bet that's why he wanted Indy back in his possession, but I suspect his recent concerns were too much of a distraction for him to worry about Indy.
So, yeah, Rocket - hang onto Indy until King Tut.
Give theinterchange a little more time to get back to you. But if you're all finished and he still hasn't contacted you, then we'll move onto bonoferox.

Hey, gang.
I'm very sorry, I had forgotten that the official sign-up window for this had closed a while ago.
And I think that was a good decision. The list is already pretty big and, given how long this process takes, I think there are already enough names to keep Indy traveling for at least a year or two.
So, with all due respect, harvey7297 and No Ticket, I don't think we should officially add your names to the list at present.
Rather, I think we should keep you guys as "alternates". Let's see where we are a few months down the road. If Indy's pace picks up, then maybe we'll have room to put you guys on the list.
Or if there are any drop outs, we could add you then, as well.
Speaking of which, Rocket, have you heard any word from theinterchange? What is the latest on your end?
Otherwise, we could keep adding names and keep Indy circling the globe until doomsday and I think everyone wants to see an eventual end to this wonderful experiment.
And, yes, throwmetheidol, the plan is still to have Indy wind up at the Ravenwood Museum.

If your name was on it before, it will still be on it.Her name was on the last list. (As I pointed out to No Ticket, check page 17, post #242. The most recent map is on the same page but post #253.)
Below is the final leg in the UK but, in my opinion, it would be more fitting if XanaduMel was placed before Inky so that he could do the final send-off to Les & his Ravenwood Museum.
23 - Scotland (adventure al)
24 - England: London (Jeremiah Jones)
25 - England: Exeter, Plymouth, Glastonbury, Bovington (inky_skin)
26 - England: (XanaduMel)
27 - Canada (throwmetheidol)
As far as theinterchange is concerned, he has a total of 2 posts at The Raven and only learned of this project through the IndyCast so he's not an active participant here. Counting on him seems a bit dicey to me.

I agree, let's make Inky the last stop before the Ravenwood. Makes perfect sense, I'm sure he'll agree to that.
So Xanadu in Scotland will get the Indy before his final stop in England. In fact, maybe we'll sneak Xanadu up a slot so he can go from adventure al in Scotland to another Scottish destination before hitting two in England.
Thanks also for the info about theinterchange.
Rocket, I'm assuming you haven't heard from him?
I'm making an "acting" executive decision. With only two measly posts and no word from him recently, he's off the list. I think there's a risk in sending the figure to someone with so little involvement at the Raven.
So contact bonoferox and make arrangements to send it to him next.
Thank you for the clarification, And as I stated before, I do not live in England, I live in Dundee,Scotland. You're welcome. I know that you live in Scotland but just copied what was already written. No Ticket, when do you get back to that address? Is there someone there who can at least receive the package to make sure it arrived safely?
And, not to pick on you at all Rocket and, certainly understanding that postal rates are pretty exorbitant these days, but I really think that it is essential that we do everything we can to ensure the safe, secure travels of Indy and his gear around the world.
We already had one scare where we thought we might have lost the figure.
That means ponying up the extra buck or so for package tracking.
Please, going forward, everyone needs to agree that it is essential we all chip in for tracking. It's a small price to pay to help make sure Indy doesn't get lost along the way.
No Ticket, Rocket Surgeon - what's the status? Where is Indy heading, when is No Ticket going to be in a position to get him?

I told RS to send it to my parent's house about a week and a half ago, because I arrived here from NY last Monday the 13th. So it made sense timewise to send it here so that I would pick it up here. I have already gone to Austin/San Antonio and back. I'm still in Texas until tomorrow, but I haven't received the package yet, then I go back to New York. Since there isn't tracking, I have no idea where it's at, so I'm not sure why it hasn't arrived yet. I've sent many-a packages before from NY to Texas and it usually takes a max of 3-4 days. I double checked the address I gave him too, it's correct.
But no worries. Even if it arrives after I leave, my parents can ship it to whomever or back to me in NY and I can ship Indy to whomever is next. It's a shame though because I really really was looking forward to Indy on the River Walk and at the Alamo. :(

Well no joking around, I never received a package here in NYC or in Texas. I called my parents again and they said it never arrived. At this point, I have to wonder what happened, because it should and would have arrived by now if something hadn't gone wrong. It's a rarity for something to get lost in the mail, perhaps RS wrote the wrong address on the package? But then I would assume somebody else would have received it and just kept it.
I'm sorry, because I feel sort of responsible since I requested Indy be sent my way. It's obviously out of my control, I have no way of knowing what happened. All I knew was that the package had been sent. :(

Have you checked with the delivery office local to your parents? There's a chance the package is sitting there after the mailman failed to deliver it on his round for some reason, and took it back with him.

Well I asked RS how he sent it but he never answered me. I don't know where to check if I don't know if it was via UPS or regular mail or what. Also, they would likely leave a note if they had tried to deliver it giving notice that the packaged was missed, but my parents insist there was never a note and I didn't see one while I was there. There was no tracking for it, so I don't know anything about it besides the fact that it was sent. I double checked the address that I gave RS, and it was the correct one! I am sure RS wrote it down correctly however, I'm not faulting him... I just can't fathom what could have gone wrong. I've sent like many packages back and forth with no problems and they arrive with-in 2-3 days time usually.
I hope you guys don't feel like it's my fault. :( I just wanted to get Indy to the Alamo!
If it has a return address on it, shouldn't it eventually make it's way back to RS if for some reason it couldn't be delivered?

A long while ago, I had a parcel held at the local sorting office, for which no note was ever left. Going to the sorting office was a last resort, on the advice of the sender. For some reason the postman either never bothered to make the delivery or never bothered to leave a note. He just might have had his ass in a sling that day.
I hope you guys don't feel like it's my fault. :(

Well, I'm back on my game and here to take the reigns once again. Many thanks to Lance for minding the store while I was gone.
Firstly, let me state that there is no blame to apportion in the loss of Indy (aside from the US Postal Service). However, I think we have to face facts and realise that we've probably seen the last of him in his current form.
Now - the question is what to do next. I can't add a poll to this thread, so I'm looking for a show of hands from the usual suspects. Should we:
a) Continue this project with an identical figure and a new Grail Diary ?
b) Continue with a totally different figure (so as to make a distinction) and a new Grail Diary ?
c) Abandon Indy's journey completely and come up with a different community project ?
Personally, I'd go with b). I'm going to give people a week from today to put their opinions out there and then make a decision. The only caveat I'd add is that if you want to participate from here on out, you need to agree to send the figure recorded / tracked.
@Stoo - did you post all the scans you made of the diary ?
@Rocket - can you keep an eye out in case Indy gets 'returned to sender' ?
So - in the spirit of adventure - onwards ! (And while we're waiting, you may like to check out the journeys of other toys @ http://www.toyvoyagers.com/)

While it certainly is sad to lose the 'original' globe-trotting Indy, the real loss I feel is the diary and inserts that our fellow Raveners have been adding. I was really curious to see that collection :( If anyone has unposted pics please post them now!
BTW - Welcome back Inky! I hope your return also means you have found compensated employment!

Anyway, I'd vote for 'B', I guess. This project is too good so 'C' is not an option. What we've seen so far can be considered the prologue before the main event, however, what happens if the original Indy does eventually surface after the 2nd one starts travelling? It's been 35 days now and I'm still hoping that he's not completely lost.

Sorry to say I had my parents do all the checking they could with the post office but there was no package. There was no missed package notice, there was nothing. I and my parents never saw a trace of Indy. :(
The fact that this package has apparently not been returned to sender just tells me it must be gone for good, lost in the mail or who knows where. I can't imagine it taking over a month to be returned. It only took 3 days for me to send a package the same distance.
I hate that I asked to help out in this project, I feel like I ruined it and lost Indy for all of you. I know I didn't REALLY do anything, but I still feel bad.

Now for something personal to share: As I've mentioned before, my participation in this project was done completely behind my girlfriend's back since she would have thought I was a juvenile geek for doing so. The other day she was very mad with me and was hurling insults left & right. One of them was, "playing with dolls", which I objected to. Her reply was, "Oh, yeah? Indy around the globe?!?"
This means she either saw my Photobucket folder with that title or somehow saw this thread. (Maybe I had it open on my computer. I didn't ask.) In any case, the jig was up and I was BUSTED!:o She still loves me, though...
