or what was ur first viewing?
mine seems kinda unreal looking back. i remember on a ferry journey they were showing raiders in the cinema which was adjacent to the kids room. the first i saw of indiana jones movies were through a glass wall with all those heads exploding at the end of raiders, which ain't easy for a kid to take it. not a good idea to have the cinema next to the kid's room i guess.
then my brother told me about raiders and how awesome it was. then i watched raiders and doom on the tv. and saw crusade at the cinema.
sorry if this thread has been done before, i would like to know how u got to find out about indy.

I never saw Indy in the cinema. My first Indy movie was Raiders that I saw on TV at a friends house,I was about seven years old.

i was also quite young, six or seven or so
hee, okay here's a little story..
you see I always loved the Indy themes, already when I was six! when I first viewed the Indy films. So I took my big brother's tape-recorder. And this is one of those tape-decks with a built in microphone and you can record sound around you or if you speak into it. So I plugged the deck into the electricity socket, and started the Indy tape. I pressed record and held the deck near the tv speakers. So it was recording the music. My naivity got to me though, I started murmering along with the music!! Without realising I was then also taping my own voice/murmering!
A moment later my brothers came home, my oldest brother said:
Oldest brother: "Hah, what are you doing?"
me: "I'm recording a song"
Oldest brother: "Of Indy?"
me: "Yep, I'm recording with this thing because I dont know how the stereo works *chuckles*"
Other brother: "Yes, but now you can also hear that we're talking."
Oldest brother: "No, you can't, I think."
Older brother: "Yes, it also tapes that"
me: "Yes?? Ohh, why are we talking now then huh"
anyway it doesnt read as funny as I got it on tape. The whole murmering and conversation, I still got it on tape! It's so funny with my young high pitched voice and naivity of speech.
If I can, for the dutch visitors, I should try and get it to mp3 sometime :)

There was some TV hype on the making of Raiders just before it came out.
They showed the sequence when he goes under the truck and climbs back forward, twice.
The next weekend I was with some military guys and we had all seen it.
Someone observed, "Wow, pretty fantastic stuff...but nothing any one of us couldn't do."
There was a general nod of agreement, but we looked at each other sidelong.
Personally, my bullwhip skills aren't what they ought to be.

that's a nice story. to think u went to all that trouble to record the indy theme with some tape decks and now u can download ur recording on an mp3. things change.

I was actually behind enemy lines when Raiders first came out.
It was a 'Termination' mission with a hard target. The Government had already disavowed any knowledge of it so..............you know how it is.
Anyway, when I got back, I went to the theater and watched it. It was OK.

I wasn't born when ToD came out, nor Raiders, and I was way too young to see LC, so I first saw Raiders on TV when I was five, fell in love with it, couldn't stop watching it, I learned ever singal line, I loved it, and I've never the same since....
If they ever DO show Raiders or any of the others in theaters, I'll be right there....

I was young, my father rented raiders of the lost arc and I knew it was Magical, I insisted on seeing the other indy films as well, I watched some of the YIJC, but it was harder to remember. then along the way I collected random indy Items from books to comics, I loved indy. soon I ended up buying the videos, then i got like 7 of the YIJC videos when they came out. Then when I found this board, well, I've never been a better indy fan.

Well, I was really young when the Indy movies were released (I was born in 1983) and never got to seem them in the cinema. But when I was around ten I caught the beginning of Temple of Doom (the part where Shorty was driving Indy and Willie away from the club) on tv. For some reason it really captivated me and I watched the entire film. After seeing the movie I talked about nothing but Indy for days (my poor mother). Then a few weeks later my mother surprised me with a present. She'd gone and bought me all three Indy movies on video because I was so nuts over ToD. I watched the whole trilogy in one sitting and from that moment on I was hooked. I watched my original Indy tapes so much that I actually wore them out and had to by new ones. Lol.

My parents told me that the actor who played my favorite character in Star Wars was in the movie. So I allowed them to drag me to the drive-in to watch it.
Halfway into the movie I fell asleep. I was still young... :p

I was exposed to the Last Crusade before the rest of the films. My mom bought the video on tape and I remember watching the movie with my dad and brother when I was a kid. She also bought Raiders and then Temple of Doom. My brother and I watched ToD five days in a row when we were about 6 or 7. Let's just say my mom got sick of it and decided to hide the movie and the other two. At the moment, my tapes are officially broken so it's either getting a new set or waiting for the DVDs... I think I'll be waiting a looooong time.

Well, i was on the blockbuster, talking to my dad about how I wanted to be a scienyist. he told me about indiana jones. i asked if i could rent one of his movies. there was only ToD and LC available. i wanted both, but i couldnt rent both. so my dad, thought LC came before ToD, ans since i wanted to see them in order, well, i rented LC. ToD later on. I was allready convinced on how cool indy was, so then i bought the box set, with the interviews, and saw raiders.I kinda saw them backwards hehe.

I was at one of my friend's house and we were watching Star Wars, and I didn't know who played Han Solo but I kept talking about him. After that I found out that it was Harrison Ford playing Han. Then one day I was flipping through the chanels on the TV and I saw Harrison's face! So i stopped, to see what it was. I had seen parts of different Indiana Jones movies before, but i was young, and didn't want to watch it. But, I had grown a little wiser, and stopped to watch Harry, but fell in love with the movie itself!

*sigh* nice memories!
i saw indy veeeeeery late. it was christmas 1999(you see very late!!;) ) and they were screening the whole trilogy in 3 days. i remember as i was always looking forward to the next part. i think it`s a bit weird that i always knew the name INDIANA JONES but had no idea what his story really was about. i didn`t actually know that he was an archeologist.
then indy was the start of my "geek life" and passion for movies...

Welcome to the Raven, SoloJones...I'm afraid I haven't noticed it until now, but I love the Harvey quote...one of my favorite films. Do you know the monologue, the one in the alleyway behind the bar? I've got that thing memorized...I didn't try, you understand (I'm not that obsessive), but, it's a great monologue...

I think I was about five or six when my Dad showed me the beginning of Raiders (we stopped it as the footage of the college began). I had seen bits and pieces of it before, though. It was night time, and I asked my Dad if we could watch some of it. I remember that just a minute or so before we see Forrestal's fate, my Dad got a phone call. He had forgotten to turn off the tape or what scene was coming up or something, and I saw both Forrestal's remains and Satipo on spikes! I think it gave me a brief, extremely minor trauma or something. When my Dad came out, I was on the verge of tears! He remembered what scene had just come on, and I started bawling! He explained to me that he was sorry, and that the actor wasn't really spiked, it was just a of him (I didn't understand this part at all). After that, I slept in parents' room with "The Fox and the Hound" playing. *Cue end of trauma*
I don't think it was until late '97, early '98 (I was born in '90) that I saw Raiders the whole way through (with some cautious parental editing, if you know what I mean), and I've been an Indyfan since.

I was 13 when Raiders came out. There were no major theaters in my nieghborhood back then. I was too young for a drivers license, but too old to have my dad drive me around. I had to wait until it came to the local theater. (After the run at the big chains.) It was only a month or two later. It was great (except for the fact that there were Spanish subtitles.) I loved every second of that film. I still think a better film has not been made. The local theater was only $1.25 back then. I think I saw it 7 days in a row.

I was about 6. It came out in the theater and I bugged my mother 'til she wanted to pull her hair out. I've been incorrigible since then, and the adventure continues.

When I was about... 8 or 9. My dad brought LC for me.(Im 15 now)It ultimately became my favorite movie. Then he told me that there were two more. I found ToD in Walmart a few months later. To this day I can't remember how I got Raiders, however. I think it was a gift. I have the original versions, I really don't like the young Indy movies, so I don't have any of them. Im kinda mad because I saw them in reverse order. I knew his real name right away, there was no cliffhanger for me there. Now theres only one week until the DvD set. I CAN'T WAIT. I've been going nuts since I found out that it was pushed foreward from November 4th. I found out In August about the set. Sorry, Im way off topic. Oh well, thats my first Indaiana Jones Expirence.

I went to the theaters to see Raiders of the Lost Ark with my parents, and many University friends of theirs; a rather large group. I was 6 years old and it was really an intense experience for someone so little; the scene where they open the ark and those guys faces start to melt made me scream and I hid my face in my dads arms and refused to look until the credits started to role.
My father refused to take us to Temple of Doom because of the controversy surrounding the films violence, but my cousins saw it and tolled me endlessly about the monkey brains and eyeball soup. I eventually saw the film once it reached video and I was not impressed. It just didn't have that Raiders magic and I thought it was poorly made compared to the first film, but today I feel differently.
After getting my first video cassette recorder, I rented the two pictures several times, and eventually got them on tape.
I went to see Last Crusade with my cousins in May of 1989, just before we all got the chicken pox. At the time it was my favorite, and I liked some of its differences such as the River Phoenix opening. I got that on tape too, but Raiders has and will always be my personal favorite.

Funny thing. I did not become Indy fan becouse I saw movies and I fell in love with that. I did see the movies, and I liked them but then the whole thing became static untill the game Fate Of Atlantis.
That was the first game I had on my first computer. And in time I got it, I did not speak English. I had to quickly learn English in order to finish the game. And becouse the game gave you the felling of being right there I was instantly hooked to advantures. Then I remembered "Hey this game is based on a character from an actual movie". So I came back to Raiders and Crusade. I did not watch Temple of doom for another two or three years. And it was a joy to see Indy in an advanture totaly different from basic shoot the nazies and go after the relic theme.
Well, this was my story.

When I was 10 I used to go over to my mom's friend house a lot and when I went over there I was introduced to a new film by her son Jeremey. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! Right when I saw it I was hooked. My favorite scene was the sacrifical shrine and Indy trying to retrieve the shankara stones. I loved how he swung his whip and flew arcoss the lava cravess. Then he fights Chatter Law and nails him to lever! I turned away from the heart scene! Hey I was only 10 and that for me was pretty grusome! Then I saw Raiders and the Last Crusade. Ever since that night I have been an Indy fanatic ever since the first time I saw it!:D

I'll be honest: I don't remember exactly how I got into Indiana Jones. I've loved the films since I was a little kid but I don't recall how it happened. I was thinking that I may have seen TOD or one of the other films at a friend's house, or I may have rented them. All I know is that once I saw them I was hooked for life.:)

My introduction to Indy was seeing TOD at the pictures when I was 6. My dad took me and my kid brother to the cinema in the town centre of our home town (Oldham, near Manchester, England). That cinema closed down over 21 years ago now - how old does that make me feel, and the franchise feel for that matter?!
I remember being enthralled and thinking the action was incredible. Shorty was my hero and the bit where he yells "stwongbwidge" then falls thru seemed to me at the time the height of hilarity. Hence the login name - nothing to do with laughing at foreigners accents I assure you, just a genuine heartfelt memory from my childhood & the first thing I think of when I think "Indy".
'Course the major memory after was my dad grumbling, "It wasn't as good as Raiders". Though he subsequently changed his impression of TOD in thinking that it was the best out and out non-stop action film he'd seen. And he saw ALL the saturday matinee westerns in the fifties believe me! I share this view, and whilst ROTLA and LC are better all round indy films, TOD is unbeatable for non stop pulse racing action sequences.
TOD was also premiered on UK TV (before we had cable) as the main christmas day movie, after the queens speech, in 1988. We had my grandparents round and it was the last film my grandad watched before he died, and he thought it was great too. So this trilogy holds a special place in my childhood memories.
Hope that was cathartic for you too! ;)

Hmm.... How was I introduced? During my early years, I watched Young Indy after school every day. So I was more exposed to Indy than introduced. I also saw LC when I three on TV. When I was nine, I watched ToD and came to the conclusion that the actor who played Indy was also Han Solo. It went from there...

Pretty simple. I saw the ads liked what I saw and went to see "Raiders..." on it's opening weekend back in '81. I then saw it at least 2 dozen times over the next couple of years in local theaters. When "Temple.." came out in '84 and "Last Crusade" in '89 I was there on opening weekend

we had a cool mom, I was young 2 or 3 grade, she took us to see it on opening day, and then over the years I remember her letting me skip school to see the others on opening day. as I was waiting in line a local T.V. interviewed those of us waiting, I had to go back and ask they not use my interview, as my mom was worried my dad woudl be pissed if he saw it!
