View Full Version : Whatīs the thing which made you the fan?
I just like to know, whatīs the first Indy-related thing which made the fan come out of you. (Movie, novel, game, even a single photo...)
So, where you first time heard about Indy, or which was the thing that lit the fire?
What comes to me... You got it.

One of my favorite movies growing up was Last Crusade. So I only recently have really gotten into it...I guess thats the reason why I really like LC, it reminds me of my childhood. ;)
What really got me back into Indy was the news of Indy 4...I went on a hunt to find out all I could on the new movie, and I stumbled across TR.N and this is where the adventure really began.

I got pulled in when my family got our second computer (our first was really cruddy) that came with some LEC titles including FoA and DOTT. I was only about eight then, so the first part of that game is burned into my head as it took me so long to figure each part out.

My mom got me an old copy of the Raiders novel from a yard sale one time. It was nice, but I was more interested in the original Empire Strikes Back novel at the time. Then one day I sat down to read it. It began with the words
SOUTH AMERICA, 1936
And it went from there.

Afta it ended I never even knew da name. So, itz been years and I showed again on TV. Datz when I knew it wuz called "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Afta another few years one of my teachers brought us a movie to watch for school. As da title showed up..."Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" I wuz wondering if dis iz da sequel of ROTLA. Again...I becamed addicted. Den 2 years ago I heard dat da whole TRILOGY came out and got it 4 Christmas...

I don't remember how old I was, probably only 6. But I remember watching Raiders of the Lost Ark when my Dad bought it at Mcdonald's. About a week later, my family and I were in the mall, and my dad promised me that if I was good, he would get one of the other ones (at the mcdonalds in the food court). That day, he bought Last Crusade.
So, Raiders is the first one I saw, that made me want to see the other ones. Last Crusade was the second step, that made me ride my bike around the neighborhood singing the Raider's March.
Indiana jones is probably the most influential hero in my childhood, Spider-man taking a close second. :)

My first expirance with becoming a die hard Indy fan was when I first saw Last Crusade in the movie theatre, during the summer before I started 6th grade. The movie was abosutly GREAT, I was hooked after seeing those great action scenes and scenary. Indy from then on became my favorite cinema hero.
I didn't really see Raiders until that fall, and I finally saw all of Temple of Doom when I got the tape for Christmas, from McDonalds back in 91. During 92 I think about the only videotapes I really watched were the triology. To the point where I knew every line. Although Last Crusade was my starting of Indy fandom, I would say the additional two kept me a hooked fan.
I just wish I could have seen Raiders and Temple of Doom in the movie theatre.

I had seen the movies before and I liked them well enough, but I didn't become a big fan until the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles aired on television. It had globe-trotting adventure, but it was also grounded in real history, which got my attention. From there I started getting the novels and comic books. Now I've even got a whip and a fedora.

I've always been a fan, never the die hard fan, but I've always had a thing for adventure. I just love the stuff, and Indiana Jones provides adventure with a little humor and action in it. I've seen the movies a long time ago (back before being in gr 4 for sure). I actually became a bigger fan when I noticed the shortage of Indiana Jones websites back around 1996. Thats when I began learning HTML and my first Indiana Jones site was born 'Jakub's Indiana Jones Website' (don't laugh I bet your site had your name in the title as well as the word website.. it was just all the rage back in the 90's). Then it went through numerous technological advances (like getting tables and actually finding out how to change the link colors for each link.. lol.. yes i was learning how to HTML).
Well anyways.. around 1999 I had the Indiana Jones Network going for some time now.
And now I am off exams trying to look for a good and reliable place to store my stuff and gonna try to make one more attempt at simly making a download center since I have gotten numerous emails about the info I have. Hey Gilles maybe ur interested in hosting it? :)
Anyways thats my fan history...

The thing that made me a fan was the sense of adventure that i gave me. When i was growing up I wante d to get into situations like that so bad and this year I am going to thailand for two months. Another movie i just saw that reminded me a lot abou this was The Mummy returns. I definately recoomend it to any Raider fans.

I always watched the movies when I was younger, and I had always liked them. But the thing that got me started was when I was sick from school I would always watch these movies. Then I just got hooked and I would watch the movies every weekend or so. I actually told my guidance counselor that I wanted to be an archaeologist just because of the movies. I still plan to forward my life with that career. That's what did it for me.

When I was really young, it was another hero a week. Robin Hood, Zorro, Ghostbusters, Davy Crockette, He-Man, Superman, Batman, all the usual.
Then, when I was in second grade, Crusade came out. Who was this Indiana Jones everyone was talking about? Some cowboy? Instead of answering, my mom just rented me Raiders.
I don't know what it was, but there was something about Indy that made him my ultamite hero, and made me the only fedora-wearing 19 year old I know. The adventure, the danger, the history and the artifacts...it all seemed to clikc for me. The whip was pretty cool, too.
I've tried other adventure/action heroes, and James Bond and John McClaine are pretty fun and cool, but nothing yet has matched Indy in my mind.

I can only remember one thing from my past about Indiana Jones. From the day I was born (July 1, 1982) I remember the day my sister brought home a rented copy of Indiana Jones, holding it up and saying look what I've got. I've always liked it. I even watched the Young Indiana Jones series when it came out. I had normally not watched it too often though apart from The last Crusade (I had a copy of it taped from TV, then it got taped over then I got another copy and for years I had that). Then I think it was one day I was at a store called WH Smith which is a bit like a glorified newsagents with loads of other stuff, videos, cds, books, computer games etc. For some reason I was looking for something to spend my money on and I noticed the digitally remastered version of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. So I bought it, saw the Ad for young Indy and eventually the collection began until I had every available video of The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones in the UK.
I had been looking on the internet already before this time and one of the first sites I came upon was Jakus site and The Indiana Jones 4 web site. They were cool sites.
The only thing that made me a fan were the fact that the films were good enough to have me become a fan of Indiana Jones. I've only read one Novel (The Seven Veils) and I am now reading another one (Hollow Earth).
For a while Stargate and Indiana Jones had for some reason made we want to become an Archaeologist until I realised it was not what I was really interested in. It was movies that I liked. Movies like Indiana Jones and Stargate. Adventure Movies. I also realised that I could make more money out of movies, i.e. it could lead to a more steady job in something tha I am interested in, but at the same time I could still do Archaeology. As Indiana Jones himself once said, Archaeology is spent mostly reading and studying in Libraries and not following maps tp lost cities etc. So I hope to bring that adventurous feel to my movies. The same excitement and intrigue that I get from watching Indiana Jones, Stargate, The Mummy and films like that.
Wow.
Thatīs some story. Anyone else likes to be that complicated?

You guys and gals are making me feel old. That one ref to someone getting an "old" copy of a Raiders novel... c'mon...give this old man a break. I have that one too, and every other one ever made. You see I fell in love with adventure after seeing Star Wars in the theaters (ORIGINAL release). I remember, even at such a young age, 7, the impact it made. Later I got to see Star Trek the Motion Picture in the theater. The adventurous spirit was continuing to grow. Then Raiders of the Lost Ark at age 9. I was floored. I still remember how long that ending sequence seemed and how shaken up it made me to watch Belloq and 'friends' melt away. But I had to see more. The banners and posters and advertisements raised the goosepimples on my arms. It was electrifying. I was a soulmate with adventure after that. I then looked forward to every Indy flick afterwards not tomention the susequent Star Wars films, Empire and Jedi, and eventually the additional 8 Star Trek Films. I even remember seeing ET in the theater and several James Bonds... the ones with Pink Panther cartoons preceeding each one....gosh I feel old.

Thought I'd post here. This thread seemed to be collecting a 'little' dust :)
I was rummaging through old threads, and thought this was pretty neat.
I had watched raiders on tv about 8 years ago when I was about 7, and I didn't ever hardly remember it, but about 3 years ago, we rented Raiders, and I just loved it. ever since, I have been a big fan of anything Indiana Jones-adventure-and so forth.
I've been around archaeology related things for about 6 years, and been on archaeological related (actually Biblical archaeology) digs recently, and am greatly interested in this sort of thing.

The thing that made me an Indy fan was:
1.) Raiders of the Lost Ark
2.) Indiana Jones defined, easily recognizable look
3.) The Raiders march theme music

now why did i never replied to this one i wonder..
Well, I always liked the movies. But then we got this game Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade! Wow, i loved it. I used to think if i'd watch the movie and pay attention I would know what to do in the adventure game :D Of course that didn't always work.
Then it only grew and grew! I never owned the trilogy on tape though (i recordered it but not on originals i mean). Until last week when I finally bought my copy of the Indy Trilogy on DVD :) Guess I'm only a real fan from that point on! :)

Apalehorse, you have posted several times about me, here, and in the adventure thread, and I responded to you and told everyone that I am not you, in the adventure thread, but you never came back with anything. Could you please respond, and tell me what this is about? What is your concern?
Thanks,
