well, with Indy 4 on the horizon, I, and every person on this board, can assure you that the next 3 years will be full of rumors, spoilers and Secrets Revealed, We've already had our fair share thus far. the question is: Do you search the web for every drop of spoiler info, do you crave spoilers, or do you stay at a distance, learning as little as you possible can (spoiler free)? or in between?
remember, for many of you (let's say mostly those of you who were born after 1985) this will be your first time seeing a new indy film in theaters. It may be the only time, that depends on if this is truely the last on, which depends on thing such as how much popularity this film gets.
so chose wisely, for whilst the right choice will complete your indy-needs, the wrong choice will take it from you.
for me, It's mostly spoiler free, a few spoilers here or there, but I'll try to remain as spoiler free as I can (meaning I may not spend as much time on this board, BOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
I think I've talked enough, whadda ya say?

I usually like spoilers, but it "spoils" the film (notice the poor pun) up until AoTC, I lived for spoilers, bond films, Ep1 and so on...............

This will be my FIRST Indy film in theaters! Hell i've only seen ONE Harrison Ford movie in theaters too which was K19 and he is still the best actor by the way. Anyways, i'm up for spoilers just not like HUGE ones. Usualy before you read a review/article it tells you if it has Minor or Major spoilers so i'll just read the Minors. They better make this movie that's all I have to say!

i belong to the "borned after 85" catagorey and this being my first indy film in theaters.....also K19 was my 1st ford film in theaters like you jones.....i'm gonna stay on the board...but filter thru them more precisely.....i choose the "non-spoiler path" as i find movies much better when you don't know what will happen next

My brain says:"I don't want any spoilers", but when my eyes see a link with spoilers, my right hand automaticaly clicks on the link and my eyes read. My eyes and hands should leard to listen to my brain!

If it's something that not many people know about, chances are I'll want to know it so I can say "I know something you don't know" to my friends (in an embarrassingly similar way to the kids in Whistle Down The Wind, hehe!).
Having said that though, for some films I tend to avoid hearing anything about them before I see them. Like with Moulin Rouge where I walked out of the room if the trailer came on TV and refused to read any reviews before I'd seen it for myself. With AoTC, I'd seen the trailers, but didn't go looking for any in-depth information about the characters, etc. Luckily I enjoyed both of those films and was glad I hadn't read up on them beforehand. Wish I'd read the MIB2 reviews before wasting 2 hours on it though...
Well, to get back to the subject of Indy IV... I've kept up to date on the rumours so far, so yeah - I'll be digging up (get it - archaeology, digging...? *collective groan echoes around forum*) all the spoilers I can find.

the greatest questions in the world:
-do you want fries with that?
-Paper or plastic?
-Spoilers or Non?
anywho, to avoid taking this off topic, if this the last one, will it be your only chance to do this? who here has or has avoided using spoilers in the past? (NOTE: INDY FILMS ONLY!!!!!!) I'ld like to see anyone say yes, and mean it.

There were no spoilers in the past. Information didn't travel as fast as they do now. There was no internet when the last film came out.

I've seen all three Indy movies in the theater when they first opened (wow I'm OLD!!) I swear, there were points during Temple Of Doom where I actually started to think, "maybe he DOES die in this film, because there's just no way out for him!" That's the great thing about not having spoilers... there's always that question mark. But curiosity will undoubtedly get the best of me, and I'll probably be able to say all of the characters' lines right along with them as I see the film for the first time.
(damn internet!)
00Kevin
08-15-2002, 09:42 AM
how true,
that is also a good part about seeing a movie that introtuces all new charactors, because you know that they might die, like in raiders, top gun, die hard and such, you didn't know if they would live or not
I feel that we may not get as many spoilers as we may think, as we are not so huge that we have droves of people inside the film.
I want to know a vague outline of the plot (i.e back of video box type thing), although I really dont see how the Indy IV forum can function without spoilers as we are mainly just speculating and someone is bound to leak us some stuff.
However I dont think that there will be that many spoilers simply because Indy fans lack the manpower, and also they generally dont have huge ammonts of extras that can leak and very little CGI.

08-16-2002, 10:59 AM
I really don't care either way. I'm not one to get caught up in all the hype. Actually, I tend to get annoyed with a film if there's TOO much hype (cough *AotC* cough)
I just want them to make a good film and not soften it with sentimental drabe/flashbacks...Indy may be old but his audience isn't!
00Kevin
08-16-2002, 11:08 AM
also perhaps the more recent technology can be a major flaw, making them try to hard
jones
08-16-2002, 11:10 AM
Well I can gaurente you this that Indy 4 will probabaly have one of the biggest-if not the biggest- movie hype ever.
Raffey
08-16-2002, 11:17 AM
Jones, I think the hype on Indy 4 still remains to be seen. Remember, this movie is coming out AFTER Episode 3.
Which tells me that Indiana Jones films are still Lucas' forgotten redheaded stepchildren.
This movie would have hype not seen before, as there are so many who have grown up with these films and even if the buzz on the web are not as intense all the Film Magazines will watch this very closely.
00Kevin
08-16-2002, 12:42 PM
we can't expect too much, perhaps about the same abmout as die anotehr day is ganna get (and right nowm that's the most for any bond film since the 70's)
jones
08-17-2002, 05:51 PM
I think it'll be a huge hype. The last Bond move was what 3 years ago? If the Indy movies kept going like that then, yeah, I don't think the hype would be huge. But it'll be 16 years since Last Crusade came out. People grew up with those movies and now theres people like me who saw them all when I was 10 years old. So it'll definently be ALL ages to see it. Everyone's gunna wana see how it turned out with all this anticipation an crap. I think the hype will be huge.
00Kevin
08-17-2002, 06:13 PM
I'm saying most people who will see it will be:
-people who say and enjoyed the origonal 3 a while back
-die hard fans (that would be up :D)
-little kids who think it looks "cool"

its 16 years later, and the target audience of today's big blockbusters may be a little young to have grown up with indiana jones, whereas james bond has remained in public awareness throughout.
anyways same could be said for star wars, except star wars was marketed as everything a kid wants for a summer movie, i.e. lots of cgi eye candy, cute aliens and big bangs, regardless if they saw any previous star wars movies.
with us indiana jones fans, and any one who has a liking for them, we'll give the newest indy all our attention. but i don't know if it carries the same importance as it once did.
and i'd forgotten the topic almost. but yeah a little bit of spoilers won't destroy the movie.

jones
08-19-2002, 09:31 AM
Look at Road To Perdition. I think it's up to like 90 mil. And I can tell you that 99% of the audience of them was adults. There has been a lot of people who grew up with these movies an I think they'll all still see it. Even i they didn't a lot of people will still see it though. Plus all the teens who were introduced for them later on. So I have no concern on how it will do at the Box Office.
jimmi
08-19-2002, 10:50 PM
i think it will do excellent at the box office but that wasn't what i was answering to. actually i think lucasfilm and paramount will get the hype-machine into action closer the time. but for the 10 to 12 years old now, who probably are not so obsessed with indy as we r, and who will be 13 to 15 when the film comes out may not concern themselves with all this hype and so the film may lose some of its momentum as these are not only the main audience age group, but are the primary target for an indy movie. and the road to perdition, didn't gather a lot of hype, regardless of how well it has done and that is the point i am addressing, not box office take.
[Edited by jimmi on 08-19-2002 at 11:53 pm]
Besides how much is there to be spoilt really?
We already know the basic layout of the films and all we are likely to get are pictures of the exterior shooting, and name of locations. Dont forget that most of the Indy films have been filmed in sets...(about 10 miles up the road from me :) )

I hope the trailer doesnt give too much away,i see so many trailers nowadays where you can basically figure out the whole film from them.I think its a trend hollywood needs to change. It'd be good if they tried to be more secretive about films.I get the feeling nowadays they're selling the dvd's with the trailers and thats why they have too much in them.

I don't know, the trailer to Crusade (the one I saw anyway) gave away that Donavon was a villain. I'd rather it didn't. So we can't be sure how much it will give away. I just hope the trailer has good Indy music, not just 1 or 2 of the themes running throughout (desert chase and ark theme, for example), and especially not modern music.

09-04-2002, 12:26 PM
I hate spoilers, but now days most trailers are giving away a small spoiliage, to entice moviegoers. Guess what? according to the box office, it's sorta working. But with Lucas, I doubt he'll give away too much, but enough to entice moviegoers and us fans to reminisce the trilogy. Also to get us talking more about it.
00Kevin
09-04-2002, 12:36 PM
I'm afraid trailers arn't the only forms of spoilers.
look at the AoTC action figures, anikin and Zam both have retractable hands, there were other spoilers too
BananaJones
09-04-2002, 12:47 PM
Well, Star Wars fans knew that Anakin would lose his hand since Vader was mechanical, so it doesn't really counts as spoiler since it explains how he lose his hand. But it doesn't reveal the manner of how he lost his hand. So therefore Lucas won't go that far in terms of revealing the entire plot or subplots.

One of the cool things that we can do with The Raven 2.0 is we can give the readers the option "spoiler" boxes, it would be in code: and would create a black box with black text that the users need to highlight in order to read. Not to mention, we most likely will be splitting the Indy IV Table into a spoiler and non-spoiler area so those who want to talk about "what is" and those who just want to talk about "what ifs" can be separate.

I want to know things like the basic story, when the film is coming out, who's playing in it...but as far as spoiler, they just make the movie not as good. I hate watching previews ecven on TV much less at the tehatre because they give the movie a different meaning a lot of times and 99% of the time they give everything away.
So I guess it depends on what you call spoilers. The very <b>basic</b> plot to me is not spoilers, but get too deep and it really sucks.

I want to have a limited amount of knowledge on the 4th film. Cast, release date and the basic plot. But I don't want to know whats going to happen before I even see the movie.
