Would you like it if Indy did what 007 did and have various actors play the characters through out the years? I personally think its a crummy idea, but lets hear your 2 cents.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Either William Shatner or Dustin Diamond... or both! :p

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Seriously, though, Indiana Jones is now such an iconic figure in cinematic history that anyone else playing a Harrison Ford-age Indiana Jones seems inconceivable to most. Unlike with James Bond or Batman, both of whom started as literary characters before appearing on screen, the public's first encounter with Indiana Jones was cinematic, so Harrison Ford will always be identified with the role (and everything Indy out there, from novel covers to comic books to videogames, all display Ford's likeness).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The closest choice I could think of is Sean Patrick Flannery, as he's already played a younger Indiana Jones before (in the TV show The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles). The problem with picking Flannery, though, is that Flannery is now about the same age as Harrison Ford was when Ford filmed Raiders of the Lost Ark - so that ultimately even rules Flannery out.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Even more ironically, Corey Carrier (the boy who played the really young Indy in the same TV show as Flannery) is now in his early-20's, so he's about the same age as Flannery was in the days of the TV show (confusing, huh?). In any case, Carrier is still too young to play the Indy we all want to see on the big screen (although he did audition for the part of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Sorry that I can't provide you with a serious alternative to play Indy. It just has to be Harrison Ford, even though he can now only play an older Indiana Jones than what we're used to seeing from the previous movies.

I agree. NO Harrison Ford, No Indy in my opinion.Well, let me see, I say this now because its already done, maybe if they did Tod with another actor and LC with another actor I would like it....but they made the right choice on not doing it with another, so is either Harrison or no Indy!

Well, I used to think no, but perhaps if Indy IV brings a certain closure to Harrison Ford's portrayal, then somebody else could play Indiana Jones.

Too much of Harrison Ford has leaked over into the character. There could never be a convincing Marcus Brody after Denholm Elliott, there could never be another Sallah than John Rhys-Davies. Maybe I'm being puritanical, but without Ford I can't foresee as endearing an Indiana Jones.

Hasnt the actor who played Brody died some years back?

Man, I WISH they'd retire Harrison Ford...hell for that matter, I wish they'd take Spielberg and Lucas off the franchise too (impossible however since they run/own the thing)...

Don't get me wrong...Raiders is the best movie ever made and is not only a HUGE part of my childhood but it's also a giant inspiration for the work I do now....BUT it really is time to pass the torch...

I mean look, yes- to us- the definitive Indy is Harrison- but the thing is, if we have to keep waiting over 10 years per movie and the whole franchise/concept DIES because Harrison is too old and Spielberg can't find some silly artistic angle for the thing then what is the point? I mean, I heard Spielberg talking about 'Oh, I want to explore the perils of aging along with the perils of adventure, yadda yadda yadda"...I'm like, what the hell?!? Why does it have to be ABOUT something? Why can't it just be a good adventure story and that's it?!?! Dude, he's Indy, come up with a good to great script every 2-4 years and pump these puppies out...I would MUCH rather have 15 more Indy films that are better than average than only 4!!! Hell if you read interviews with Spielberg he didn't really even want to make Raiders the way he made it...he had more of a film noir, intellectual take in mind but he knew this would be a financial disaster...and ever since Temple of Doom, everything he makes can't just be fun anymore...it's gotta be ABOUT something....

So yes, new director, new actor, and make new Indy pics every 2-4 years....would be great...Didn't love Terminator 3 but many people did...great idea to keep that franchise going...screw Cameron and waiting around for the perfect artistic wind to blow the perfect artistic way (not that I don't love more meaty, intellectual movies with deep thought but I'm sorry, Indy- to me anyway- ain't about that)...some suggestions for the Indy future movies:

DIRECTORS:
Chris Columbus
Robert Rodreiguz (sp?)
F Gary Grey
Michael Leman (the guy who made BOURNE IDENTITY)

NEW INDY ACTORS:
Brad Pitt
Ben Affleck (ok, I kinda hate the guy...but sometimes if you catch him in the right role, he's got that kind of everyman charm and sense of humor that Harrison used to have before he got all cranky)
Hugh Jackman

Personally, I don't think you can portray Indy the way Bond and Batman have been portrayed. Bond and Batman are ageless. Every Bond film takes place in the current timeframe, yet the characters of Bond and Batman are always roughly the same age. Batman has been in his 30's SINCE the 30's. James Bond is the same age today that he was when he was introduced. The problem with Indy, is that he is grounded in a specific time frame. With the Young Indy TV series we saw that Indy has been specific ages in specific years.

We all kind of expect a new Bond every few years as the last Bond gets too old for the part. (Hell, we don't seem to be able to go more than a movie or two without getting a new Batman.) Indy will always look like Harrison Ford in our eyes. It's just not the same concept at all.

I am sure the folks who loved Dr. No and all of the Connery Classic Bond flicks were like 'NO WAY, no one will ever be Bond but Connery'...and many of them still think this today...just like many kids who grew up with Roger Moore will always think of him- terrible as he was- as the real James Bond...

As for being rooted in a specific time period, I don't think this matters. I mean really, unless you are a total stickler for detail, it doesn't matter. Sure continuity may get messed up a bit here and there but the Indy movies are not- for me and I assume most- enjoyable BECAUSE of some sort of amazing continuity...they are great Adventure stories and the rest of the stuff is just detail that I'd say 99% of the paying audience doesn't really care about...

I mean, are you saying if they found a good director and star to take over, you'd rather not see ANY new Indy stories on the movie screen simply because the story they want to tell is conflicting with episode 15 of the (again in my opinion) ultra sub-standard Young Indiana Jones??!? If you feel this way then you are ULTRA HARD CORE! And I thought I loved Indy!!!

I really don't think anybody else could play Indy well... James Bond is sort of a stereotype. Anybody with a British accent in a tuxedo who has sex a lot and kills villainous masterminds could be Bond. He's pretty easily replaced. But if you stick somebody besides Harrison Ford in a fedora and leather jacket, hand him a whip, and have him chase after ancient artifacts and beat up Nazis, will he be Indy? I don't think so. Everything about Harrison Ford, and only Harrison Ford, is an essential part of Indy. His voice, his looks, his smile, the fact that he does his own stunts, everything. In my opinion, a movie with Indy played by someone besides Harrison Ford would show an immediate and severe decline in quality. If you want 15 mediocre movies, make up a new hero for them, instead of dragging Indy back again and again. I know that you just can't get enough Indy, but that's what books, fanfiction and the video games are for.

I used to be an Indy purist ("it's got to be Ford, Lucas and Spielberg"), but think about the novels and the games for example - did Ford have any input into them? OK, the artwork on the covers looked kinda like him, but they were based on the Indy from the films.

If another actor wants a shot at being Indy, why not? But it might be a daunting prospect to fill Ford's shoes...

Use Doug Lee who provided the voiceover for Fate of Atlantis.

I don't like SPF as Indy... He doesn't have the same character as Indy when he was with Ford. Like c'mon in Treasure of the Peacock's Eye after going through so much together with Remy this adventure was like for their friendship. Then after spending a day with some guy he doesn't even know... He completely changes his mind! If they extended the movie to another half hour and have Remy almost die... Then he could be like let's not do this anymore because you are more important to me. Of course that's not SPF it's the person who made such a bad ending... Like the Infernal Machine had a better ending... probably a ten times better ending to me. I like Ford in the character but what if Tom Selleck was Indy? would we want someone else? Do we want to keep Ford because he plays him best? That's my reason.

Not to dampen you guys spirits but the big three have all said no one but Ford will ever play Indy. As for me, I can imagine Indy having a son, a prodigy, or someone else keeping the lagacy going ( not that that's a great idea but it's imaginable ), but never could anyone but Ford be Indy. Ford has played Indy so hard that his personality and appearence have been fused together with Indy's, so NO!
I don't think anyone could star as Indy but Ford. FAN

Ahhh, I've been waiting for this thread! They should make a Young Indy movie with Leonardo DiCaprio! And NO , I'm not drunk! ;) hahahahaha!!!!! Ok, but for an older Indy, Flannery is always a good choice, I mean, Ford was in his early 30s when he played Indy in Raiders, right? Hugh Jackmon would make a nice Indy, although he's got that Austrailian thing going on. What about that one guy from the movie "Below"? Has anyone seen that movie?

No, No, Ford was not in his 30's.
He's either 60 or 62 ( cant remember wich )
the last film was 14 years ago so he was in his
in his early and mid 40's. He's still in grate
health though, and as far as appearence goes, the
make-up crew can wok wonder's, but really he looks
good considering he's sixty. I mean no balding, few
wrincles, his own teeth, the only thing I that has
really aged is his hair, and yes his face somewhat,
ect . . . Really I don't see any reason to replace
Ford as Indy other then the fact that Ford would not
want to, and he want's to. Therefore there is absoultly
no reason to get anyone else but Ford to play Indy.
I doent think Ford would allow anyone else to star in
his prised role as Indy,if interviews are anything to go
by, he seems to value it a great deal. FAN
