View Full Version : Hardest level in ET?

New here. :)

I just recently finished ET, and am curious to see which parts gave people the most trouble. I'm going to say the first boss, since at the time I was still adjusting to the controls and swimming out back to land when you couldn't see the croc was unnerving.

Von Beck's Revenge. Definately Von Beck's Revenge.

Yeah, that was very frustrating, but once you memorized the pattern it was actually fun.

I think Von Becks Revenge was pretty hard, but that stink'n crock was pretty hard also.

I agree, Attila.

i remember hating that level at first, but it wasnt very complicated for me.

if i had to choose a hard one, i would chose one of those black dragon fortress level, dont remember which one.

and one of the levels i hated most even though they werent very complicated, were all these under water. those were terrible

The first time I played the game I had so much trouble with the croc level... and it was mostly because I just couldn't find that little ledge you climb up on so you can then lower the gate and trap the croc! I was swimming around in the main area, climbing up that one ladder, and cutting out the vines underwater, because they all *looked* like they should do something... and I got eaten by the croc over and over and over. Arrrgh.
Now that I've beat the game, the only level that gives me much continued trouble is Von Beck's revenge... make one tiny mistake, and you die.

You can trap him??

Anyway, go here;

And read the end of the Ceylon level. That should help.

Von Beck's Revenge probably kept me from progressing the longest, so it gets my vote for #1.

Next was the Dungeon where I had to learn how to do that running whip swing by catching the hook. I came pretty close to just tossing the game and forgetting about it. Even when I DID succeed, I couldn't get Indy to Wallhug! I FINALLY got that figured out by holding down the W key while pressing the USE button to make him hug the wall.

So much of my aggravation with this game is due simply to very temperamental controls. When things respond like I expect them to, it's not bad, but not knowing what's going to happen sometimes is just simply frustation to the max.

That's a good reason to get the PS2 version. Using a controller is a LOT easier than using a keyboard. I never had any problems with the controls through the whole game. Von Beck's Revenge is hard enough with a controller... doing it with a keyboard must be suicide!

Gah...well, at least that explains why I found the level so hard.

Actually I rather like the PC controls.

Deffinatley the one with the water and the coins that
was very frustrating. The Level with the crock was easy..
i got him locked behind the gate and was safe for the rest of the level. Von becks revenge was not that hard for me either. Well hey this is considering i finished the game in 3 days 15 hours each day.

I agree with ya there. That was tough.

That was very long, and tricky to find some of them...but I don't think I was ever really in any danger of dying in that one.

I am on the damn Kracken. I have tried it 15 and have only managed to get 2 of the columns down. Hardest time I have had.

The whole Emperor's tomb level was a pain in the ass.

By the way, remember the level with the invisible bridge?
Man...it brought tears to my eyes :(

Invisible bridge? I remember a couple, but none that you couldn't see by using the blue torch or Mirror of Dreams...

Actually, I'm very adept at using the keyboard and mouse. In fact, I actually tried using my Wingman Rumble Controller and the default view in the game was HORRIBLE. It was set to look almost straight down onto Indy's hat. (Probably more like a 75 degree angle and you couldn't see at all anything where he was going. It was all floor or ground.) But, anyway, I have no trouble with the keyboard/mouse controls as I play a LOT of games that way.

Although the hardest thing of all was watching Mei Ying run her hands tenderly across Indy's face...

I don't think I can say that Von Becks Revenge was the hardest... it was quite fun, really. Maybe I'm just really good at gaming, which I find unlikely as this is the first 3rd person game I've EVER played, and only the third real video game I have ever owned (The other 2 being Rogue Squadron and Delta Force 2) so I dunno. I doubt it took me more then 2 hours to complete, all told. :D Not exactly what I call "Throw out the window I hate this game!" Unless I have exceptional patience or something, I dunno, as stated.

Uhm, the hardest... Ah! I hated the one in Istanbul with the Wine Coins... that took me longer to solve then Von Beck! Ugh I hate that level... and thank you lucasarts for not hiding a artifact in that level I had to go back for. :)

Oh, and Canyon, I hope you've never pushed the 'use' button next to Mei Ying in the Emperor's Tomb...

:p

I take it you're refering to if Indy gets to close to Mei Ying...

That was what I was referring too! :) There's about 5 of those, all told. Cracks me up.

And I've beaten Von Beck about 5 times now. Ooh that level is fun. :)

I played some Indy and Mei Ying levels last night and I heard this one:

"I thought you were supposed to be.....some kind of world famous Archaeologist!"

I almost expected Indy to reply to that one! :p

Just keep hitting that Action key and go through them all...

*Shakes head* I hope some script writer got paid a lot of dough.

Another funny thing that happened yesterday, I was playing the Path of Unseen Peril, and a Triad (real one, not undead version) kicked Mei Ying over the edge into the falls. 'fore I could blink, she was somehow back in the action... how do you do a ninja flip off of water? :p

I used ...erm... TRIED to use the WingmanForce 3D joystick and the view was... horrible!!! I couldn't see where I was going cuz the camera was between Indy's left side and back and down on the floor.
