the three films are full of them, but which are your favorites?
I like the part in ToD just after Indy wakes from the "black sleep of the Kali", where the thuggees are pushing the cart and the lamp lights up Indy -- it cuts to a view of the children, and when you hear Indy start to punch the thuggee WATCH THE KIDS -- they all flinch and watch the guy slide on the ground, and then they look up at Indy and give a big grin.
Classic!
I also really like the part in LC that is enacted in my signature...

Ooh SO many!! :D
Raiders- The whole marketplace fight.
ToD- When Shorty and Indy are playin cards, while Willie is just being freaked out at EVERY animal she encounters.
LC- When Indy and his dad are in Brunwald Castle and they are trying to escape!

"It breaks the heart."
"And the head."
It's so great how they are having different conversations and Indy misinterprets everything Henry says. I like all of Henry's scenes. What's wrong with some slapstick humor?

There are quite a few good ones...
The look on Indy's face when Willie finally pulls the fulcrum level and opens the door in ToD.
In LC, when Indy knocks the two guys off their motorcycles with the flagpole and he's smiling and laughing, but Henry Sr. has a disapproving look on his face to make Indy stop smiling.
The banquet scene in ToD.
"It's a date. Ya eat 'em!"
The scene in ToD where Willie is looking for the diamond and Indy is looking for the antidote.
And the best one of all...
when Indy watches the Arab swordsman do all his fancy moves with his sword and then Indy just pulls out his gun and shoots the guy.
All great scenes.

Almost all the dialogue between Indy and his dad is hilarious! They both have enormous presence as actors.
Most of my favorites hae been mentioned. The look on indy's face when he says: "We are going to DIE!" in TOD is pretty funny.
Also the bit where they are all looking over the cliff where the tank has fallen in TLC, and Indy walks up behind them! That bit's great too! And his hat reapears at his feet! Classic! I love exclamation marks!!
Indy movies are one big '!'
RotLA: Indy and the swordsman VEERY NICE!
ToD: Indy stops the minecart. That "water, water!" makes me always to :D grin.
LC: "No tickets." Simple humour. Very fun.
There are sure much more scenes that were more than fun. But these were the best ones.

Here is another one:
When Indy grabs the machine gun from the German guard...and shoots 4 or 5 Nazi's. Turns to his dad and says...
"Don't call me Junior!"
And all Henry can do is say "Look what you did!"
To which Indy replies "Come on dad!"
Another great is when Henry says:
"She talks in her sleep."
Yeah. I think the best scenes are in LC.
Everytime Indy and his father talk to each other, there is some kind of joke in every dialogue.
This oneīs not actual joke, but itīs fun:
"Thatīs his name, Henry Jones Junior."
"I like Indiana."
It makes it even better when Sallah begins to laugh.
Or:
"I didnīt know you can fly."
"Fly, yes! Land, no!"

When Willie is trying to get on the elephant and everyone in the village is staring at her.
Or when Willie finally agrees to eat the "food," you can see the huge grin on Indy's face as she puts it in her mouth.
"What are you going to do?"
"I donīt know, Iīm making this up as I go."
A Classic with big "C"!
Somehow, the best jokes can be found from dialogue.
Something from ToD:
"Is he nuts?!"
"No, heīs crazy?!"
"Ha Ha! Nice try Lao Che!"
And then...:D
Some mimic art:
Indy and Willie are in their rooms and waiting for each other to get back...

Another good one is the scene that includes my quote! (It took me a while to think of that)
monkey
07-04-2001, 11:39 PM
In TOD when, after just barely saving Indy and Shortround, Willie accidentally re-activates the trap device with her ***, (whoops, I mean her ****)
Somehow, thereīs not much dialogue humor in RotLA...
A nazi monkey is fun, but itīs not THAT fun...
---
The spider joke in beginning is fun, because you would think that now Indyīs in trouble, but he just calmly wipes the little critters off, itīs mainly the same idea like with the swordsman...
---
"Better than US Marines, huh?"

Another few that I like are
"We are going to DIE!"
All of Indy's actions in the spike chamber are enough to make me giggle to myself.
I likehow Indy's dad is always screwing stuff up!
I Raiders, in the bar scene, Where Indy has just broken the chair over the giant Sherpa, and he turns around to see the other nazi poiting a gun at him. He hears a shot and flinches, looks at his chest quickly, and then this big grin appears when he realizes it isn't him...
I love that scene.

How about the scene in Raiders, where Indy is taking off his clothes to try and sleep (after being dragged underneath a moving truck), and Marion grabs the mirror and flips it over, smacking Indy in the jaw. It cuts to the outside shot of the ship, and we can all hear Indy screaming -- very loud. Marion pops out from behing the mirror and says "What did you say?", and Indy lets out a small whine.
That HAS to be my very favorite funny scene in the Trilogy.
Wes
This one in LC makes me :) smile everytime:
"Iīm sorry, Junior, they got us." (Henry in biplane)
The "whistable horse and cars"-joke in intro is also nice one.
And that when nazis find Indy and Henry in castle is fun one:
"Dr. Jones?"
"Yes?" (x2)

I used to flinch a lot when that scene plays...
I was like..."Dang!! That GOTTA hurt! Ouch!"
Still funny part!! :D
And no hitting me twice for "flinching"...;)
I think if they people who say "Atlantis" should figure out what I'm saying. ;)

I don't know if anyone's said it yet, but I think the scene in ToD right after Indy escapes from the Club Obi-Wan where Short Round says "Hey Doctor Jones! No time for love! We've got Company!". Something about that scene just makes me laugh. For some odd reason, I also laugh whenever Lao-Che and his sons do in the club while talking to Indy.
Indyīs face while he notes the boulder first time in RotLA... is the best "Yikes!"-expression, Iīve seen in any movie, and it makes me to :) smile every time too...
---
I could also find some jokes from failed scripts that would look good on film...
This one is from "Indiana Jones and the Sword of Arthur"-script:
INDY and ALEXANDER walk down the hall to Indyīs office.
Indy opens the door and walks straight to his desk which is filled of exams to be checked
ALEXANDER
See you, Dr. Jones, Iīll leave you to work.
INDY
Bye.
ALEXANDER walks out and closes the door behind him.
INDY stands up and walks to window. He tries to open it. But thereīs a strong latch in outside the window. Indy sighs and gets back to his desk.
---
:D It goes something that way... but it would sure look nice in Indy 4.

I have read that script...
And yes that's VERY good enough to be the Indy 4 movie! :)

Just watched ToD again and saw some more good ones...
After everyone is running on the floor in the beginning (where Indy's looking for the antidote and Willie's looking for the diamond), the band starts up again and all the dancers come out, but Indy is right in front them, and in trying to dodge them, it totally looks like he's trying to dance! It cracks me up!
When Indy is fighting the huge Thuggee on the conveyer belt, he smacks the two buckets against the villain, making him drop the rock on his own head. It's kinda stupid, but it's funny.
When Indy, Willie, and Shorty are in the mine cart, Indy says "Short cut!" at some point. It sounds to me like Shorty is saying "Yes, Indy?" (as if he thought Indy was talking to him), and then Indy says, "Short CUT!" (not sure if I'm hearing right, but it sure sounds like that.
There was something in ToD I was searching...
Itīs when Indy and Chattar Lal have a hard conversation on dinner:
"As I remember, the Sultan of Madagaskar wanted to cut your head off if you show yourself in there again..."
"It wasnīt my head."
"Oh, your hands..."
"It wasnīt my hands either."
"What then, Dr. Jones?"
"Letīs not talk about it."
What more we have to cut off? Our legs..? Something a bit shorter maybe...:D

Actually, I just watched ToD again, and it actually ends with...
"What then?"
"It was my.... a misunderstanding."
Indy then proceeds to change the subject...
Also, at the end of ToD when Indy runs off the bridge, two Thuggees show up with swords above thier heads much like the sword guy in Raiders. Indy then does the EXACT same look as in Raiders and pulls his gun out of his holster- until he realizes he doesn't have his gun. He keeps trying to grasp the gun that isn't there a couple more times. It's hilarious.
Yeah, thanks. Good to know.

Yes, thx for the bump! I wasn't here when this was around.
My sig., LC:
Indy- "11 o'clock, dad, 11 o'clock!"
Henry- "What happens at 11 o'clock?"
Raiders:
There's also the scene were Sala gets kisses from Marion. He's in awe and the fog-horn goes off on the ship.
LC:
When Sala and Marcus are in the market place.
Men- "Papers".
Sala- "yes, I've got them right here! ...run... Today's edeition. ...run..."
Marcus- "did you say"
Sala "RUN!" smack. After all that he ends up messing it all up...
Marcus "How does one get off this thing?" An elbow to the face is all that's needed.
The whole scene with the stamp guy in the library. Esp. when he puts the stamp down and looks at it.
-
Some more include "Doesn't come any closer than that!", ' "Look what you did", "It's war Marcus" ' " 'Those people are tryoing to kill us' 'I know that dad, it happens to me all the time!' ", " I don't, I'm making this up as I go". And I've always thought it humrous whenever Sala drops those flags to Indy in Raiders, and he see the Nazi flag. Same effect in LC when he meets Hitler, but more funny in raiders, more serious in LC.

I was always partial to the scene on the back of the steel beast, where Indy shoots three nazi's with the lugar. He then looks at it like, "Wow, what a wonderful piece of german hardware". I think there is someting very humorous about that scene.

One of my personal favorites is in LC where Indy is with his daddy looking for a way out of that secret room in Brunwald castle. Indy's dad sits on a chair and a secret staircase opens up and Indy rolls all the way down it! I love the way you can see what happens to him by looking at his shadow. The best part is seeing the great Indy Jones lose all his dignity by rolling down the stairs like a cartoon character!
Indy often tried to act superior to his dad and acted like kind of a jerk (Indy: "Dad-- they're coming BACK!") in this film which I found to be delightful. Aren't we all a bit snotty around our parents sometimes? Spielburg really used Sean Connery as Indy's dad to poke fun at Indy's character a few times and let the air out of Indy's sails. It was great to see Indy's dad get the upper hand once in a while! Great comedic moments in this film between them.

The Swordsman scene is the classic. Everyone knows about it and loves it. Ask a wayfarer about Indy and what do you get? A boulder, Monkey Brains, and the scene were shoots that guy with the big sword.
And some of the older generation will say Sean Connery, but to stick with the topic...the scene with the guy with the big sword.

I can't believe no one has said this yet:
It's not my favorite. I can't pick one, but it's damned close. Right after Indy heads toward the Bridge in ToD, and he encounters the two Thuggies, and reaches for his gun, but it's not there. Indy looks back up, and gives the perfect "oh crap" smile I've ever seen. (The scene doesn't make sense, actually. ToD was before Raiders, and Harrison's body language indicates that he'd done it and it worked before)
In the way of other scenes, everyone has covered mine perfectly, excpet "Strong Bridge!" :)
I was also LMAO at the scene where Indy, wearing Elsa's cloak and beret, imitates a Scottish lord. :D:D:D

Not really funny, just too silly and out of place, but...
ToD, when the main thugee throws the hammer and it hits the boy in the head. trying to hard, I think they were.
I also, love it when Willie knowcks the guy off the cart. And you thought she was just a loud mouth.
When Indy is hanging on the bridge he just destroyed, and all of the Thugee guys shoot tons of arrows at him. He clinches, holding ths stones tightly, waiting for the worse, but they all miss, of course. Watch his expression and he gives this look like 'wow, that was weird?', the same look you give yourself because a hundred arrows just missed him.

How about the mine cart chase in ToD when the thug jumps on Indy's back. He pushes him off and thinks he is still behind him. He swings around with a punch to where the thug would have been but totaly misses him. The look on his face is so great. I read somewhere that Harrison thought the scene was over when he missed the guy but then the thug pops back up and he looks stunned and decides to finish him off. You can tell that he knew he goofed. This is my all-time favorite.
or in LC when Indy bluffs to Donovan about Marcus and says "with any luck, he's got the Grail already." Then they cut to Marcus looking as lost and confused as ever.
also after Henry Sr. hits Indy and he says "Don't worry, I'm fine" then Henry says "Thank God" and turns around to say "Its a fake. See you can tell by the crossections." Indy thinks his dad is being sincere about hurting him but he is just thinking about the vase. His expression is great.
1 more-When Henry says "she talks in her sleep." Indy gives his dad this glare and Henry just has this smirk on his face.

It's not the funniest scene/joke, but here's my favorite:
In RotLA, I love the snake gag and Jock laughingly chiding IJ to '[s]how a little back-bone. will ya?'
I like the snake gag because it sets up the well-of-the-souls scene later in the movie and it comes after the seemingly non-stop opening action scene. Seeing that snake in IJ's cockpit, it felt like the action was never going to end. I like Jock chiding IJ because in a big-picture sort of way, it sets up how we think about the IJ character and the sense-of-humor that the creators have about the character.

I have a question for everyone. Why is the average person convinced that in that scene Indy throws the sake over the edge of the plane. It doesn't happen. I don't remembering it happen, but people always defend that it happened and I always defend that it didn't.
