1) Danny DeVito was originally cast as Sallah.

2) The U-boat used in the film was also the same one used in Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot.

Steve Spielberg said that at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Cursade on VHS when asked about the role of Sallah.

Did you know that at the end of shooting the scene when Indy climbs aboard the Nazi U-boat, a couple of days later at night the U-boat sank? Now I'd say that’s good timing.;)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp How was I "shot down pretty quickly there" if the U-boat fact was a "good find"?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp It seems that timing was everything on the Raiders of the Lost Ark set, like when the crew only had one day to shoot the marketplace scenes and Harrison Ford felt too ill to participate in the elaborate battle between Indy's whip and the Swordsman's sword, so Lucas and Spielberg then decided for Indy to use his revolver instead. :D

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I'm sure that fans of The Lord of the Rings films would agree (after all, imagine Danny DeVito cast as Gimli the Dwarf)! :D
