Did anyone else think they made the best pairing in the trilogy? Harrison and Karen had amazing screen chemistry and both characters seemed to mesh together perfectly. For me at least they were such fun to watch as a couple, and I think they were miles better than Indy/Willie or Indy/Elsa.

Thoughts?

I agree! about time someone else says it! they are a perfect match, like bond and tracy in OHMSS, their charactors were ment for each other!

sadly, no one wants to see them be wed but me :(

I agree about Marion and Indy being the best match of the three. But that doesn't mean there couldn't be a better match.

But on another note, I always thought that James Bond would eventually settle down with Miss Montypenny. Though they never ......well, you know....., they had a kind of intangible chemistry too.

I'm talking about the older Bond movies.

Sorry for the dreaded........... OT.

well yeah, moneypenny is a good match for bond as well, but I was just using an example that bond and tracy seem to have similar attitudes

Not bad. But IMO, it was a bit too long. And Lazenby isn't as good as Connery or Moore. But I would give it 3 ½ stars.

But back on topic about Indy and Marion.... I think they were best. Then I & W, then I & E.

That's not true, Kev! I'd like to see Indy and Marion get hitched. It would be an interesting marriage, wouldn't it?
I really think they are meant for each other. They have A LOT in common, I believe. Both had a so-so childhood, both had fathers obsessed with certain artifacts, both didn't have a mom for very long if at all, so both had to grow up and get tough in a hurry. Because of this, they were mature beyond their age (see the novelization of LC). But as tough as Indy and Marion are, they have heart.

I know that when Rob McGregor was writing Indy novels, he wanted to show how Indy and Marion met but Lucas forbid him. Sounds like he wants to save all that juicy info. for, um, something else (like Indy IV, hint, hint). So
don't dispair, brother Kevin, I'd like to see I & M get together and I know others here would agree... and, of course, disagree. Still, you're not alone!!

I agree!! Harrison and Karen were great together!! I think that if they do not get married then we should at least have them reunite in Indy IV.

To Marion

You annoy me, I utterly despise you.
You are the Waterloo to my Napolean, you are the Tom to my Jerry, you are the bane of my existence.
You are pure evil, you are hatred itself, you are the devil incarnate.

I mean all that in a good way, you understand.
Note: the above line is a lie.

Marion is the worst part of any Indiana Jones movie, in fact, Raiders is my least favorite of the three because of Marion. Her acting is terrible. It just is. The worst, EVER. Even those screen tests on the DVD...the directors raves about them - but they are horrible too. She cannot act. She is so bad, that one line [disgustingly] delivered by her ruined all of Raiders for me: "I'm your god damn partner." Can you say contrivity? I can: contrivity. Also Cliche. Geez.

The other Indy girls I like far better, and suit Indy better, imho.

intergamer,

You're 100% percent about Allen's screentest and for the most part I'd agree with you about the quality of her overall performance -- but I still think that the Marion character is the best female lead out of the three.

Spielberg sized up Allen and and he made her performance work. The shots of Indy and Marion smiling at one another on Sallah's terrace is very compelling and as a viewer I accept everything that happens after that.

I'm curious IG. Do you dislike the 'character' of Marion, or just Karen Allen's portrayal of this 'character'?

Or both?

Have you ever read the novelization? (I have not by the way).

Karen Allen, bad acting, etc. aside. What is it about the 'character' of Marion that you don't like?

I don't mean to grill you here, I am honestly curious about this.

Mostly, Its the acting I don't like. However, the character also doesn't really seem to make sense. The line, "I'm your god damn partner" is so bad that it makes me toss and turn in my sleep. Also, the drinking thing and the frying pan thing try to be funny but aren't. Hopefully, Indy 4 will develop Abner Ravenwood (see another thread) and we can understand her better. But for now, Marion seems to full of contradiction.

You're right though, its mainly the acting which annoys me.

EDIT: I haven't read any of the books, although I'd like to...don't seem to have any in the library.

Hmmm, interesting. I thought Karen's acting was just fine.
