View Full Version : How do you watch the Indy trilogy?.

I'm just waiting for someone to reply with "Why, with my eyes, of course."
How do you watch the triolgy? Is it always with friends, family or just by yourself?
For me, it's usually just good old Canyon. Believe it or not, I have never, ever watch these films with my family (I don't even think that they've even seen all of them) and I have never seen them with friends. To me, it's kind of a personal thing and for the most part, at least, it has always been that way.
I have occasionally seen the films with my other half, which starts of okay, but can be a bit of a nightmare as he he knows how much I like Indy and sometimes he'll start making sarky comments about Indy etc.
I am interested in hearing your replies. ;)

I usually hold 00Kev in that position so he doesn't fall over :D
I haven't watched the movies because i am still waiting for the DVD's. It's been that way for years, now.

I can only watch Indy movies alone or with my sister beacause I only like seeing them in english with no subtitles, and the problem is that in my country (France) people don't speek english so..
BTW find the french voice-overs horrible. Indy has a different voice in every film!

I love watching Indy films with family and friends, eso. friends who haven't seern them yet, or haven't seen them in a wahile or that just don't know what's going on. This way, I get to share the excitment of a first time watch, plus I get to talk all about it, answering their questions and giving out trivia and such. But I mostly like watching it with first timers because it makes me feel more like a first timer, which the first time is usually the best.
By myself is only to catch things I might have missed, or when i have questions, and this way I can rewind and fast forward and pause at will. But I've done this a few times and I now pretty much know everything about them, so when someone says, "Nope, haven't seen them" or "Not in a long time", or just "Let's watch Indy!" I get SSSOOOOOO excited!

It really doesn't matter who I watch the films with. By myself, friends or family. Like theinfiniteweird said it is always nice to watch the films with someone who has never seen them before.

I usually end up watching them from the middle to the end, simply because I don't own any of them, so I wind up catching them as I'm flipping through the channels. Then I'll watch a bit and think to myself, "I've seen this movie a million times, let me check if there's anything else on." I'll flip through a few more channels, get hooked on an infomercial or something, then realize that I don't actually care whether or not the Juiceman has a new product out, and I'll flip back to Indy. A few minutes later, I'll once again think, "Okay, you've seen this WAY too many times... turn it off," and sometimes I will, and other times I just sit there and watch it again. Kind of sad really.

I don't watch them all that often so that when I do, it's a big deal and they seem fresh.

I never watch them alone. Just when I have friends over, and they say, "Wow, you have Indiana Jones on DVD?" Then I watch them in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound in my basement on my 23" flat screen TV while normally playing ping-pong and foosball and chess and cards with my friends at the same time.

Before the DVD release. I watched them by myself, because my fiance wasn't really into them back then. Since the DVD release, I watch them with her, because she admits she likes them after giving them a go, and my little boy, who is 3, absolutely loves the Indy movies. I have to skip a few parts here and there to make sure he doesn't see the gorey parts, but he loves the action, and the music. He has a set of the Indy Disny figures and plays with them while he watches, and of course, I have to join in.
Kids. What a great excuse to play with toys,LOL
BTW, this seems like a good reason to own the censored versions that you folks have over in Great Britain.
Maybe someone could help me out.
I also like watching them late at night when it is real quiet, and everyone is asleep, so I have no distractions.
Just me, the DVDs, my big screen, and some surround sound.
Now that's some quality time.
I usually watch my DVDs by myself at odd hours (e.g. as normal as lunch time, or as odd as 2:30 AM) on my computer. Although I have a 5.1 sound system powered by a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card, most of the time I use my Sony EX-70 earphones (they rock!!!!) so that the sound is confined to my room only.
I do occasionally watch them with friends, but never with family; in my family, movies are, shall we say, "frowned upon" for various culture/tradition-related reasons.

I ussally watch them allone or with m,y little brother who likes them also very much. Most of my my friends know indy but except for one, they´re not fans(indy is being broadcasted 2 times a year on the television, so everyone knows indy)). So I never watch it with friends.

Is it the blood sacrifice in TOD, the finger necklace in RotLA, or the sliding between the boats in LC. Personally, for me and my mine, it's the "snake-surprise" scene that sends us to recreate Venice.

I got the DVDs for Christmas and I've watched them quite a few times already.
However, my 3-year-old daughter absolutely loves "Jones" as she calles him.
I feel ecstatic that I can raise my daughter the right way: she loves Indiana Jones and Spider-man. Now, if I can just get her into sports, I'll be set. :)

I often work out to the Jones Soundtracks… get the tune to a particular sequence… get my weights out and take off my shirt, exposing my bare chest.
Depending on the sequence, my pace is either fast or slow. If it’s few bars of Marion’s love theme I’ll do some slow rhythmic pumps with the weights. If it’s a chase or a march or a chase theme I’ll do some fast pulsating undulations.
At the end I’m panting with exhaustion… my bare chest glistening with sweat, my muscels rippling from over use. I lay back drained yet exausted.

Sometimes i watch them by myself, because they're kind of a personal thing, you know? Like they're sacred or something and they shouldn't be shown to anyone else. I like to just watch indy and his wonderfulness and hotness in peace sometimes.
But other times i feel the need to share the joy. My sister is always up for watching LC with me, she thinks it's a riot and loves Sean Connery's character. I also like watching them with my friends who have never seen them before so that they can understand my obsession. Or not...

Finally, I got some time for reply to this topic!
Well, I try to watch Indy movies alone, it's a private moment for me and it's mine, I want to pay attention to all the details (even knowing I've watched them over than 20 times each...but they are precious to me!) so in case I've some Indy/Harrison fan with me I also don't mind, plus I think it can be much more interesting then!!! ;)

I find it easier to watch them by myself, because most people get fed up with me, because I constantly say the lines out loud. Also, I tend to rewatch parts I like (like the truck chase in Raiders) over and over again, the longest being ten times in a row...

I'm usually a by myself watcher as well! My sister( who grew up with me watching them over and over) will watch them with me on occasion. It's kind of a personal thing I guess, because no one I know shares the same level of excitement for the films. I just got my folks to watch Raiders and LC recently, and they really enjoyed them. They probabaly only saw them once before in the 80's, so for them it was like watching them for the first time again. They're both very excited for KOTCS now, so I've got some converts under my belt!LOL

This thread will sound like a broken record if I say that I watch them by myself, but the honest truth is that I'm sure we stand out in society by wanting to watch any film more than 2-3 times...let alone 500 like some.

My oldest sister likes the movies, so she watches them with me sometimes; my other siblings, however, usually would rather watch something else.
I sometimes drag friends over to watch them, though none of them are nearly as enthusiastic as I am about them. Then, of course too I tend to drive anyone who's around me nuts talking about KotCS, and how long it is till it comes out etc.(Or Young Indy trivia as of late:up: )
What generally happens is that I watch them alone, I kinda like it that way. Waiting a few months in between views keeps them fresh: I haven't watched the trilogy since November.

Similar to my Star Wars watching habits, I have an agreeable partner... and whilst it woudn't be her first choice, she quite enjoys sitting through an Indiana Jones movie every few months (even on a rotation of just 3 movies). Any more frequent than that, I'll just lock myself away in the TV room and watch them myself with a couple of beers...

I watch the trilogy by myself but if I have to watch it with someone it would be my dad. Actually the very first time I watched it was with my parents. My dad really understands what entertainment is about and agrees with me on the fact that Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best films ever made. I also watch the trilogy when I'm sick and alone at home. When my folks come home and they ask what have I done while they were gone I answer: "Nothing" and smile mysteriously... Later my sister asks did I watch the trilogy and I admit. Almost the perfect crime...

Most of my Indy Trilogy viewings have been with my parents. Growing up, we only had either just one TV or only one TV with the VCR hooked up to it. Several times a month we'd have a "Family Movie Night," and many times the choice was one of the Indy films.
In recent years, I've mostly watched them by myself since I now have a TV/VCR for myself in the upstairs spare room. But when the DVDs first came out, we spent three nights watching all three movies as a family since it had been maybe several years since we'd all last watched them together. Nowadays my parents hardly ever time to just drop what they're doing and watch a movie like we used to, so a lot of movies I end up just watching on my own.

I'm gonna try to drag a friend or two to the theatre to see KOTCS, but I'll be like the only one interested :whip:
