Looks Great!
Looking forward to it. Do you have a teaser or trailer yet? will it be online?
Location pictures look great too!

Hey man.
Thanks for checking out our movie info. I am going to do all that I can to get it online. I THINK I have the capablilities to format it to mpeg. When, and if, I do get it online, I would love to have it shown at www.theforce.net's fan films (since www.theraider.net doesn't host whole films anymore).
BTW, did it ask you for the password? Just curious...since it asks me once in a while, but not everytime I visit my site.
Thanks again for taking the time to read about our movie,
Brandon (aka Ska)

I do love a good fan film, and bub, your making a good one! :)
Just a little update:
We are currently looking for places to film the end of our movie. I work right by a little Army base thing. They have a lot of crates set up outside one of their buildings that would make for an exciting "stealth" scene.
The caves on my site (see above for link), while a little hard to get to, are absolutely amazing and huge! Can't wait to film the exciting ending there.
Other than that, our movie is just about done. The total time should come in around 1 hr 15 minutes...give or take.
Later,
Brandon
Here's the DVD cover so far (without the pictures)...

Sorry about the loss of quality when I uploaded it. It looks as sharp and clear as the Indy trilogy DVD covers on photo paper. Oh well...
I'll be posting the script for the end of the movie on here in the next couple of days. I would love to have everyone's input/suggestions. We plan on finishing the film this November.
The finished script is posted on:

I would love to hear some feedback. I know it's long, but it shouldn't be too much torture. If you've already read it, the only section that I modified is part III.
Thanks,
Brandon
I added some screen shots of our movie to the gallery section of my website (see address/password above). They aren't the best quality, but they are definitely viewable. They are from me taking a digital picture of my tv...talk about loss of quality! Anyway, enjoy!
I also changed/added some pictures to the locations section.

Here's the latest update on what we did over the winter break:
- filmed a scene in my office's conference room discussing the bad guys' evil plan to use the Spirit.
- snuck onto the United Defense's property on a Saturday when no one was there and had Indiana getting chased by two Russians in a maze of large crates w/ tanks in the background.
- fixed the problem w/ my website's links.
Now all that is left is the finale in the caves (see the above website for location photos) and the fight on the cliff outside of the caves. Hopefully this will take place over spring break.
bump for the new-comers...
Will be finishing up the filming in the next two weeks if all goes as planned.

Very cool. Hey, Ska, any chance you could post your complete screenplay as an RTF, DOC, or PDF file?
(Not that your website isn't nice, but it'd be easier to read if it was in a more "traditional" format.) :)

Brandon/Ska, where is the caves -- are they around Uniontown?
Yeah, I can speak English.
Seeing the stuff on your film made my day.
Thanks for the comments...where can I upload a .doc version to download?
And the caves are in Connellsville...Casparis, actually, if ya heard of 'em. They are quite the drive once you turn off of the last paved road...but they are going to be worth it.
The film is actually a dummied down version of the script I submitted for the contest...by dummied down I mean I lowered the stunts to our doable level.
Hows about that for some good English! :D
The filming is officially finished. Despite my car bottoming out on huge rocks on the way to the caves, we finally found them! Getting to the caves was an adventure in itself. About a mile from the last paved road, we came upon a stream, which I deemed not crossable in my Hyundai Elantra. So we packed up our equipment and headed on foot. About a half an hour on the trail, we rounded a corner.
I was the first to see them. Words came out of my mouth that the mods don't want to see, so I won't post them. My friends were talking and didn't see them right away...then they looked ahead. (insert more explicitives here) The mines were huge...3 man-made opening in the earth...approximately 150 high each...and each spanning 75 feet wide. All three led to one huge chamber that stretched deep into darkness we all didn't want to explore. The chamber seemed to be about the size of a Super Wal-Mart but much higher. And the natural daylight from the openings allowed for easy filming and kept our camera in focus.
Luckily the only inhabitants of the mines were smaller than us, so nothing to worry about. Bats could be heard echoing, but we didn't see any (unfortunately).
So the filming is done...over three years from the start of the screenplay...and it's now up to the editor to finish. I'm still hoping to get the film on the internet. I believe we now have the capabilities to do so.
Now I can move on with my life!
- Brandon

[jokingly] Glad to hear that you're finished with filming. I thought if you had to serve jail time for impersonating Roethlisberger it would derail things.
Well over the last month my wife and I bought a MacBook...and I decided to fool around with iMovie for some "advanced" editing of Spirit of the People.
Now that I FINALLY got the movie onto my computer, I'm in the process of doing a total renovation of my movie. I plan to finish re-editing the movie in the next month, and will upload to YouTube when finished.
(Not to sound like Lucas, but...)Don't get your expectations up too high. The acting isn't that great, but it's a fun film to watch if you're an Indy fan.
The film was originally over an hour long...but after I re-edit (and do a final cut), I see the film clocking in at around 45 minutes.
Changes to be made to the original film:
Credits will be added during the opening of the movie. Previously I filmed a Power Point with credits.
Minimal digital effects will be added throughout the film. Poison darts were left to the imagination before, now they will be seen. Also, effects will be added to the MacGuffin at the ending.
Transitions will be added between scenes, to soften up the hard cuts.
Stay tuned...
For those that care...
...a drastic turn has taken in terms of the movie. I decided to change the movie from a regular fan film to a silent movie (for originality and as a tribute to the OLD adventure serials). Plus, by changing this to a silent movie, I can fix (by taking them out) all of the spoken line errors that were previously recorded. There were spoken lines that dealt with alternate plot senarios that I couldn't go back and fix, but by adding text in between scenes, I can basically rewrite the story as I want (as long as it fits the action on screen...which it will).
I recently contacted Joe Cordello (1taken from YouTube) about doing some custom piano renditions of Indy songs, that I will use as the soundtrack for the movie. He has already completed some and will continue to do so as I continue editing. No good silent movie is without a good piano background!
I've worked on and am just about finished with a trailer for the movie, and I will post the YouTube link here tomorrow morning (if all goes well).
Stay tuned. I really like the new black and white "silent" movie look to the film and hope you all enjoy it too!
I was inspired to do this from The Spiders, a silent movie from 1912 I believe that (at least to me) is the oldest influence on the Indiana Jones series.

I will be releasing five 9 minute chapters early this fall on YouTube. Together, they will make up (total of about 45 mins.) the entire film, Indiana Jones and the Spirit of the People. Someone on YouTube is making custom Indiana Jones theme piano songs for me to use as background music (since it's not a true silent movie without pianos). The chapters will end in cliffhanger endings like the old adventure serials that Indy is based on.

I will be reposting the trailer on Google this afternoon (as a private video...will not show up during searches...but I can link the movie on websites for others to see). One of the actors in the movie didn't want his image on the internet.
Chapter 1 (of 5) of Indiana Jones and the Spirit of the People will be posted either at the end of this week or early next week. It will be just under 10 mins and is titled "Chapter 1: The Orb of Souls".
As with all of Indy's movies, the first part of the movie isn't related to the main story...but picks up on an adventure already in progress...and introduces us to the villan.
All that's left to do with Chapter 1 is to give the film an aged look and lay the background music. I converted it to black and white and added text to the story this morning before work. I think it came out awesome and by far is my favorite part of the entire movie.

Chapter 2 is much less action packed, but required to tell the story for the rest of the movie. Chapter 3 is full of action, with a cliff hanger...and will be online by the end of the week.
Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 3: Raiders of the Hidden Idol (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4927117111651025492&hl=en)
I'm very happy with how this chapter turned out. Hope you enjoy it!
I'd love to hear some comments on what you think. :D
I was inspired to do this from The Spiders, a silent movie from 1912 I believe that (at least to me) is the oldest influence on the Indiana Jones series.Being the guy who introduced you to "The Spiders", I would just like to say it's a job well done, SKA!
I've only watched Part 1 so far but the fact that you've turned it into a silent film is unique and fresh.
The piano music is a great rendering of Indy themes. It fits very well and set the mood. I especially enjoyed
the scene on the train bridge. At one point it felt as if I was actually watching an old serial. What a jump!
Which one are you by the way? The henchman on the bridge?
Thanks for watching, Stoo!
Yeah the train scene turned out great in my opinion. That's my favorite scene of the whole movie. It was the first scene we shot (seems like forever ago), so we really had some motivation going. Actually the henceman on the bridge is the one who jumped into the river. The actor playing Indy wasn't up to it, so we had to shoot it farther away (as to not notice it's not the same actor).
I'm actually not in chapter 1. I mistakenly added my name to the beginning credits. Too hard to change now.
But I am in the rest of the chapters as Gustav Hamlin (the one with the eye patch at the beginning of chapter 2). I also play a Soviet goon in chapter 3 (one of the ones with a mask on). In the original version of the film, I also played Henry Sr. in a classroom scene (would have taken place in chapter 2), but I cut the scene. I had a really bad fake white beard...and it was too cheesy for the finished film. Parts of the classroom scene (without Henry) will be in the final chapter.
Chapter 4: Reclaiming the Spirit (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4012181095122180587&hl=en)
Two more chapters to go after this one!

nice! that one is my favourite so far.
But can you something about the google video picture quality. It is very pixelated so it worsens the whole film
nice work anyway
Yeah the pixelation does suck on Google Video...when I converted the movie to a .mov file in iMovie, I compressed it for a smaller resolution, and stupid Google Video blows it up.
I'll have to play with the settings.
Thanks for watching again, Mutt!
EDIT: On the bottom right of the Google Video player is a Google Video button with an arrow box (besides the volume and full screen controls). You can chose either original size, double size, fit to window (default), or full screen. Original size is too small, but double size seems to work ok. Not as sharp as before being compressed, but better than fit to window.
I'll see if I can make double size the default...if not you can manually do it when watching.

i'll make sure i remind you to watch mine when its finished. It'll be alot shorter than yours but just as enjoyable and indyesque
Oh, I'll be on the lookout! :D
I looked, but no way to make double size default...
...so the watcher just has to change it his/her self (or buy a smaller monitor...hehe).
My main goal was to make it feel like/similar to an Indy movie. I wanted to keep all the traditions...fade from Paramount logo..."Pat Roach" fight...unrelated opening scene...supernatural artifact...true tie in with history...chase scene....classroom scene (SPOILER...oh no!)...greed taking over villain at the end, etc.

Pretty good! Gotta say the train fight was neat! My only complaint is you managed to sneak Pirates music in it. But it fit pretty well to what was happening at the time. ;)
The Soviets and Nazis in the same movie!? Awesome. I also loved the Forrest battle between the Russian I belive. Very brutal. :D
Sneaking around the base was very neat as well.
Favorite line: "Don't take..." *Chokes man* "My whip". Race to the Cave looks great!!
Thanks for watching, QB!
Indy sneaking around the base was actually us sneaking around a base. There is a tank building facility behind where I work, and we snuck onto the grounds and filmed a little (pre 9-11).
Yeah I had to use the Pirates material (and some Haunted Mansion Disney ride themes). I'm also using a little Star Wars in Chapter 5.
The guy who is making the music isn't able to play much more Indy stuff, and I needed some faster music for the fight (and the upcoming quad chase)...so I needed to use some of his other material. His piano has a cool old fashioned sound to it, and I wanted to keep it consistent by only using his music.
Chapter 5 is just about done...all I need is to finish overlaying the music. I was also able to use some of iMovie's special effects (not seen in any of the previous chapters), and they look great and add a lot to the finished film.
Chapter 5 looks to be online Tuesday morning, with the final chapter to follow shortly thereafter. Chapter 6 will be 3 minutes of movie and 6 minutes of credits...just what's needed to conclude the movie.

nice. This is by far my favourite chapter. The chase scene turned out brilliantly.
what were the flashing lights in the caves when Stych was doing the chant?
My only criticism would be that there were not enough close up shots in the chant sequence. We did not get to see the madness in Stych's eyes.
Otherwise great work. Cant wait to see the end.
Thanks again for watching, Mutt.
Yeah I really like the chase scene, too.
I wish we had more close up shots during the entire film. But unfortunately, it's too late for that.
The "flashing lights" in the cave aren't even there. In iMovie, when you add an "aged film" effect to the scene, it almost seems like there are light and dark flashes on the screen. I used the aged film effect for the entire movie, but the flashes show up more in the darkness of the cave.
I noticed it too when editing, but there was nothing I could do to prevent it.

did you put an aged film effect over your film and a black & white effect? I made a short western showdown film with imovie and when i put on the aged film effect there would be spots where the colour would change for a few frames. These would then be seen as flashes when a black & white effect would be added as well i guess.
Yep...added b&w effect...then aged film.
That's probably it.

The classroom scene originally took place after the Barnett Museum scene in Chapter 2 (back then there were no chapters). After Indy falls down drunk and Hamlin walks over him to leave, Jock and Deirdre come to help Indy up, and Deirdre says something about him not being able to teach tomorrow...then it cut to Indy at the chalkboard teaching his class. During the end of class, Indy sees someone looking into the window, and he gets nervous. After class, Indy walks to the window to see who it was, and Henry Sr. comes up behind him. Henry then tells Indy that he was contacted by Stych to translate a map, but he couldn't do it. So Henry took it upon himself to set up a meeting between Indy and Stych at the airfield.
I decided to cut Henry's part out because my "beard" looked really fake (half falling off the whole time). And we really didn't have an ending for the movie...after the earthquake, Indy just fell to the ground and said that he couldn't wait to get back to his day job. So I added the explosion and moved the classroom to the end. Found the stock class footage and redid the entire ending. It looks a little silly, but it's better than no ending at all.
Glad you enjoyed the film, mj.
Well...I think getting married 3 years ago might have stopped my movie making. Not sure how my wife would feel about me getting dressed up and "playing" in the woods. lol
Oh well, you never know...;)
I actually do have a sequel filmed, called Indiana Jones and the Light of Eternity...but it was filmed before this one (when I was just in high school).
Spirit of the People was actually a prequel (ala Temple of Doom).
And it's bad, really bad.
The story is about a sacred candle that the Nazi's are trying to find. Once the candle is found, it has to be lit with the Flame of Eternity. Whoever lights the candle with the flame will be all powerful...or something like that...I don't exactly remember.
I do play Henry Jones, Sr. in the film though...it might be worth re-editing just to see me with a fake beard made of Christmas decorating snow. lol The beard actually looked good during the film...Henry's actually the sidekick during the whole film.
Actually thinking about it again, the film wasn't TOO bad...it might just be in need of some fine tuning...stay tuned ya' never know!

cool. will this one be in chapters aswell?
Yeah...for a longer "internet" film, having one 50 minute movie is a little too much to digest at one time.
The sequel is probably just about the same length (from what I remember...haven't watched it in years), so I'll stick to chapters.
Plus it allows me to upload a chapter at a time...getting it on the 'net sooner. And chapters give it more of a serial feel.
The only reason it's a sequel is for a return of one of the characters (besides Indy of course)...you'll have to wait to see which one...

Great! Great movie. Stych deserved what he got! :whip:
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching, QB!
Yeah Stych did get what he deserves...
Below are links for all 6 chapters and a trailer for my fan film, Indiana Jones and the Spirit of the People. Each chapter is approx. 9 minutes long, with a total run time of 52 minutes. As the title states, the movie is done in a black and white silent film style, just like the very first Indiana Jones influence, The Spiders, from 1919.
Indiana Jones and the Spirit of the People was made by three Indy fans with inspiration from the greatest movies of all time. While the movies will eventually come to an end, the heart and memories of Indiana Jones will live forever. To some, they are just adventure movies. But to all of the raiders around the world, they are an excuse to dust off our fedoras again and again. So let this movie be our way of saying thanks to George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford for creating the legend that is Indiana Jones.
Summary:
The second World War is upon us, and countries around the globe have begun searching for an advantage for the war. Information has been intercepted that a group of Soviets, led by Kristoff Velnikov (Zach Smitley), are about to switch sides in the war and join the Axis powers. Velnikov and the Soviets are on a worldwide search for the Spirit of the People...an idol that contains the power of mind control. The United States Army has assigned Lieutenant Stych (Kevin Gaydos) to head a group of soldiers to retrieve the idol before the Soviets. Teamed up with Stych is none other than a certain fedora-wearing archeologist by the name of Indiana Jones (Jeremy Fields), who is contacted by the U.S. Army to translate a map that will lead them on a quest through the Soviet Union to the mysterious artifact. Join Indy as he escapes an oncoming train, jumps off a bridge into a raging river below, inches his way through a dark underground passage filled with terror around every corner, and leaps from quad to quad in a chilling chase through the woods. And finally witness the power of the Spirit of the People unleashed in the caves from which it was carved. At least those damn Nazis aren't around to slow Dr. Jones down...or are they?

I'll say it again Awesome Job! Great action sequences and a good macguffin to fight for. The locations worked perfectly and the lead actor played indiana jones nicely.
What I would have liked to see was more Close up shots in the film. It seemed that every shot was other a full body shot or a mid shot showing the torso and up.
Maybe as a bit of advice, watch the indiana jones films again and try to replicate some of the shots from the trilogy and generally just the feel you get through the editing and camera work if you decide to make another one in the future.
Anyway fantastic film! loved it.
