Ok lets go round and name our fav indy moment. Wether it is from the movies or the books and comics, it doesnt matter. Just name ure fav indy moment.
Mine would have to be the begining or Raiders. Its a classic 1 to pick i know, but it has been my favorite since i was a kid. Indy avoiding the light to not set off the trap, Indy avoiding the foot panels that would send poison darts his way, and dont forget the boulder chase. This is also where we find out that Indy has a fear of snakes when he is in the plane with Jock & Reggie the Snake.
I also think this is the part of all the movies where Indy is the most mysterious. You dont know anything about him or his life and he is very quiet. He only talkes when he has something intelligent to say (If only my sister would do that.).
Remember this is only my opinion. That doesnt mean its right wrong or indifferent. Have fun with this.

In my case that would be...also the opening sequence of Raiders, but I also liked the rope bridge scene in Temple a lot.

I agree. The opening scene of Raiders is my favorite as well. In fact it is pure cinematic genius. I also like the scene in ToD when Indy and Shorty are in the room with the spikes. The truck sequence in Raiders is another favorite.
In LC I like the whole entering and escaping the castle Brumwald (sp?) part.

Yea for LC the motorcycle chase is pure genius... I also like for a comedy scene when they r stuck in the burning room in the castle.
For TOD i guess it would have to be the bridge scene or the mine cart scene.
Lets face it, for the indy films every second is pure genius. Every second is movie history.
Three fav. moments from all three films...
Raiders: Three short moments that are classics, the boulder, the swordsman, the snake.
ToD: "Do you know how to fly?" - "No, do you?", the snake in the jungle and the "He nuts?" - "No, he crazy!"
LC: Tied up in chairs, "No ticket" and the hat blown by the wind.

Aside form the opening scene in Raiders, I would have to say that the three challenges Indy faced in the Grail's temple is one of my favorite sequences in the trilogy.

The part in Temple of Doom after Indy wakes up from the Black Sleep and the screen cuts to the Thuggee guard beating up the kids and then the mine car flashes on Indy. We then hear a "thwack" from Indy's whip and see the guard go flying on the ground. This scene made me want to be Indy when I was a kid.
Actually, I think it's the smack of a fist (can't think any other way why the baddie would come flying down), but what the heck. It's a good moment either way.

I'll go with Indy shoots the swordsman for best comedy moment.
And Indy drags under the truck for best action moment.

At the end of the Basket Chase in "Raiders", just as the truck starts heading down the alley, Indy comes around from behind the corner, the Raiders theme picks up on full octane, he raises his pistol and starts firing. Man, that scene still gives me goosebumps.
And later on...
Belloq: "It's a transmitter...a radio for speaking to God, and it's within my reach."
Indy: "You wanna talk to God? Let's go see him together, I've got nothing better to do."
Ah, I could do this all day.
OK...one more: ToD--"It wasn't my hands it was my...my misunderstanding."
Indy_Jones88
06-08-2004, 02:46 PM
Ok LuckyLighter has a good idea, if u want to quote indy that is fine to.
"My soul is prepared, how is yours"
And now that we mentioned Belloq, there is even better word exchange earlier on the same scene.
Belloq: Now, Dr. Jones, where could I then find an adversary worth my own reputation?
Indy: Try the local sewer.

Cairo Swordsman does his moves, Indy draws his Webley and pulls the trigger.
The Thuggee henchman do their moves, Indy goes for the Webley, realizes its not there, gives that half laugh thing, and then goes for his whip and gets a sword of his own.
Seeing those together makes them even better than alone!
There are plenty of others and lots of them are subtle like when Indy tips his hat after snatching the idol in RotLA or when he comes face to face with that snake stature in ToD. It's the little things he does really that makes him so cool :D

Most of my favorite moments are from LC, since that is my favorite movie of the trilogy. Here are a couple:
The very end of LC, with the whole "We named the dog Indiana" bit, and when they ride out into the sunset. Even though I know that ending is so cliched, I find it really moving.
In ToD, in Club ObiWan when the Chinese guy (name?) grabs the machine gun and starts shooting and laughing like a maniac. His facial expressions are very funny.
When Indy falls off of the cliff and is then reunited with his dad and they embrace. That part is so cute!!
When Fedora places the infamous hat on young Indy's head...the beginning of it all.
There are a lot more but I can't think of any at the moment

Very good, im very happy with all of the feedback. I agree sometimes it is just the little things, like in LC when our favorite heroes hat blows back to him, that make the movies the greatest.

My favorite moment was probably escaping from Henry's (Sr.) Room in Brunwald.
"I came here to save you!"
"Oh, yeah? Well who's gonna save you, Junior?"
"I told you..."
eh, you know the rest! ;)

Going picky here, but the only movie in which Indy carries a Webley is LC. In Raiders, his gun is S&W.
Just pointing this out... continue. ;)

Yeah, that's the first of all of the great moments between Ford and Connery. It's probably the most memorable of them all along with when Henry calls Indy 'Indiana' for the first time.

Temple of Doom was such a huge part of my 7 year old life when it came out, particularly that whole Club Obi Wan scene. It was the reason I wore a white dinner jacket to my Senior Prom 10 (YIKES!) years ago, and the reason I wore a more accurate tux to the Fort Lee Centennial Ball two months ago (I'm a reporter and Fort Lee is the town I cover in New Jersey).
LC: Indy shoots through 4 Nazis with one bullet from the Luger.

For me the most memorable Indy scene is early in Raiders.
Traversing mysteriously through the steaming jungle, stopping to look at the torn and weathered map. Throwing the whip to disarm a treasonous partner. Entering the ancient temple and passing the booby-traps to come upon the golden idol perched on its stone pedestal. Then the eyeballing of the idol to determine the weight and discarding some of the sand before trading sand bag for treasure, only to be foiled by the ancient architect of the temple who created the final trap which sets the temple to cave in. Running through the darts to the pit only to find the treachery of the remaining parter holding the whip on the other side of the chasm. Reluctanting giving away the price with faith the traitor will throw the whip, but to no avail. The traitorous scum. Leaping over the pit only to hang on it edge, but being able to climb out and make way to the tunnel. Diving through the falling barrier and reaching through to regain the trusty bullwhip. Finding the traitor dead, foiled by a forgotten trap discovered and successfully circumvented only minutes before. Idol in hand, running for dear life as the thunderous boulder rolls forward to crush and maim. Diving out of the temple entry and rolling down to the ground only to stand facing a dozen natives pointing drawn primitive weapons in Indy's face.
Nothing beats that.

i agree, that is my favorite part also. Indy is so mysterious during the first 10 minutes of the film.
Keep the awesome posts coming.
The best "quick blurts" (comeback lines) in the trilogy:
Raiders: "Try the local sewer."
ToD: "He's no nuts, he's crazy!"
LC: "So do you!"
Can you recall the lines these were comments to?

Well, there is a handful (or even more) people on this board who know these movies inside out.
Let's ask another toughie for Grumpus (and possibly you others too) to answer:
In the infamous (and so great) "Fly yes, land no!" -scene, does Indy release the plane with his left or right hand?

I love that scene as well. It shows that Indy and his dad do care for each other by the film's end and it shows that for Henry the grail is not as important as his son's life. I'm sure several Indy fans have said this but: kudos to Steven Spielberg for coming up with the idea for having the great Sean Connery play Indy's dad.

Indiana Jones: This is an obsession, Dad. I've never understood it. Never. Neither did Mom.
Henry Jones: Oh yes she did. Only too well. Unfortunately, she kept her illness from me. All I could do was mourn her.
These lines tell us that Henry was obsessed with the Holy Grail. It tells us that whenever he was not at work that he worked on his Grail Diary or studying.
"Indiana, give me your hand"
This tells us he finally got his priorities right. He would rather have a son than the Holy Grail. It tells us that during the adventure Indy and his father had made a small bond. It also tells us that during the adventure Henry Jones Sr. Changed drastically

The problem with me is (and you all well know this) is that I have about twenty favourite parts from each film so I'm gonna list the ones I can think of here:
Raiders
* When Indy takes the Idol of the Chachapoyan Warriors and the temple begins to fall apart.
* "I hate snakes Jock, I hate em!!!"
* The whole classroom scene, expecially the part when one of the female student's flashes her 'LOVE YOU' eyes at Indy which leaves our adventurer bewildered
* When Indy and Marion share a private moment for a few seconds on Sallah's balcony and Indy flashes that wonderful smile *siggghhhh*
* The Cairo street scene (which of course includes Indy shooting the arab swordsman).
* When Indy goes to the maproom and uses the headpiece of the Staff of Ra
* When Indy realises that Marion is not dead (and kisses her - ah - lucky woman!)
* When Indy, Sallah and the diggers begin to dig and are silhoutted by the sun.
* "Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?" "Asps. Very dangerous. You go first"
* When Indy and Sallah take out the Ark of the Covenant
* "I don't know. I'm making this up as I go." and after when Indy dashingly goes after the Ark truck on a white horse (da da da daaaaaaaaa!!!!!)
* When Indy drags behind the Ark truck and deals with the bad guys!
* The whole Bantu Wind scene (awww...cute)
* When Indy appears on the sub and all the guys cheer whilst the Indy theme is playing. Cool!
* When Belloq and co open the Ark
* When Indy and Marion hug
* And last but not least "C'mon. I'll buy you a drink. Y'know, a drink."
Temple of Doom
* When all hell breaks loose in the club and Indy and Willie are on the floor, her looking for the diamond, and him looking for the antidote
* "I don't wanna go...........!"
* "Nice try, Lao Che!"
* When you see Indy for the first time in his gear (he looks so darn cool!)
* When Indy is making fun of Willie's name "What is that, is that short for something? "Willie is my professional name Indiana."
* When Indy and co arrive at Pankot Palace.
* The whole banquet scene
* The love scene between Indy and Willie right from when he sees her to when he bursts into her suite. "Oh...Indy!"
* The spike room scene, and the look that Indy gives Willie after the door opens is priceless!
* "You're gonna get killed chasing after your damn fortune and glory!" "Maybe, but not today."
* When Indy makes his way down to the Sankara Stones and takes one. He has the most amazing look on his face, and together, that with JW's score, is awesome.
* When Short Round wakes Indy up from the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma and the fight that follows. "I'm all right kid."
* When Indy rescues Willie and she throws her arms around him and I love the part where Indy puts Short Round's baseball cap on his head and Shortie hands Indy his fedora
* The whole mine cart scene
* When Indy realises that he doesn't have his gun, flashes a drop-dead gorgeous smile and disarms one of the Thuggees with his whip (I stare in awe every time I see that!)
* When Indy chops the bridge in half
* When Willie and Shortie think that Indy is dead and he appears with the last Sankara Stone
* Indy and Willie's banter and.......the kiss. (a perfect end to an adventure.
Last Crusade
* The opening sequence. River Phoenix was perfect as Young Indy
* "You lost today kid, but that doesn't mean you have to like it." and the Portugese Coast scene that follows
* The classroom scene
* When Indy and Brody meet Elsa and are surprised to find that Dr. Schneider is a woman
* When Indy and Elsa go into the catacombs below the library
"What's that?" "The Ark of the Convenant." "Are you sure?" "Pretty sure"
* When Indy says "Don't worry, this is kid's stuff. I'll be right back", and When Indy crashes into his fathers room and Henry gets excited because Indy had found the second marker
* "Dr. Jones?" "Yes?"
* When Indy tells Donovan and co that Marcus has probably already gotten the Grail, and then it cuts to Marus wandering around lost in Iskendurun
* "I can't forget how wonderful it was." "Yes, it was rather wonderful." The look that Indy gives his father is priceless!
* Indy and his father escaping and who can forget when Henry accidentally set fire to the floor! "And the chair!"
* When Indy says that he has never understood his fathers obsession and "neither did mom."
*When Indy and Henry are discussing things. "If you'd been an ordinary, average father like the other guys dad's you'd have understood that."
* "Fly yes, land no!" and the scenes that follow. Indy crashes, er lands the plane, they drive off, Indy, ahem, crashes the car, runs across the beach and Henry gets the seagulls to fly into the enemy fighter plane. And who can forget "I suddenly remembered Charlemagne. Let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky."
* The tank chase sequence, and my favourites from this include when Marcus asks "How does one get off this thing?" and when Henry goes flying and Indy cracks his whip, catching Henry around the ankle
* When Henry and the others realise that Indy is not dead. "I thought I'd lost you boy!"
* When Indy finds the Grail and takes it back to his father
* "I can get it, I can almost reach it!" "Indiana...Indiana. Let it go."
* "Got lost once in his own museum, huh?" "Uh-huh" and when they all ride off into the sunset
Well, I thnk that's everything. ;)

and then of course when he's on the bar and calmly looks up and says "whiskey?"

My favorite Indy moments are:
- The Raiders opening scean when he goes to get the idol.
- When he's in the closing spike trap in TOD.
- The mine cart chase.
- In the grail temple when he's trying to get past the traps.
- When they ride into the sun at the end, it's so....poetic.
There are of course many more...
EDIT: how could I forget, I also love the eating scean in TOD
EDIT 2: Oh and I just remebered! the scean where he shoots down the swords man in Raiders, love it!

Any moment where Indy and Short Round interact with eachother... it's a really cool father/son relationship they've got there.
"I'm very little, you cheat very big!" -Shorty
When Indy throws Marion into the cart in Cairo and turns around and pulls out his bullwhip and does those 2 cracks... I've been trying to get that to work with my bullwhip, but it's hard!! Harrison was good!
The time in Last Crusade where Indy and his dad are in the motorcycle, and Indy laughs, then looks at his dad, who's all serious and kinda angry, and his smile just kind of fades away.
"Indy! Henry! Follow me! I know the way! Ha!"
That was so funny... the whole ending part.
In Christ,

Harrison Ford also did this in Star Wars a couple of times. 1st in a new hope, he runs around a corner and then runs back screaming with 10 stormtroopers chasing him. He also does the same thing in return of the jedi.

Short and sweet for me this time:
RotLA: "Now you're getting nasty."
TOD: "That's why they call it the jungle, sweetheart."
LC: "That's for blasphmey."
Small lines that reveal so much about character and motivation.

I love it when Marcus is in Inskerandon? And he says "Sorry, fish make love in it" although I've never really understood why he said that!
The whole line is "Water? No thanks, fish make love in it."
And if you look at the screen, you will spot there an Arab holding out a glass of water. ;)

There are so many Indy moments that I just love. I think the moment that defines Indy the most for me was that classic scene when he swiches/grabs the Idol in Raiders. Classic Indy stuff!
Another of my many favorite moments is when he's running from the Chachapoyan warriors and you can see a cloud of dust following Indy as he runs. It almost seems like it even goes before him sometimes. Hilarious!

It is very had to pick just one, but another detail about the scene Indyologist picked, is how wide his stance is. Typically when you run, your feet maintain a line inside the distance of your shoulders. In the scene above, he is running with his legs well outside the width of the shoulders, and his arms are sort of flailing about. Very believable, when you consider the character is running for his life.

I have quite a lot of favorite Indy moments.
Raiders
• The whole opening scene in South America.
• I also like the part where Indy and Marcus explain about the history of the Ark with the US goverment agents. It just appeals to me for some reason...
• The swordsman gag during the Cairo street scene.
• The whole scene in the maproom.
• "Snakes...why did it have to be snakes?" "Asps. Very Dangerous. You go first."
• When Indy and Sallah take the Ark of the Covenant out of the Well of the Souls.
• The Nazi plane fightscene (the one with the German Mechanic).
• The truck chase.
• When the Ark is finally opened and all the Nazis die.
Temple of Doom
• The entire Club Obi Wan scene.
• When Indy, Willie, and Shorty jump out of the plane.
• The jungle scene. ("You cheat Dr. Jones!")
• The banquet scene in Pankot Palace.
• The spike chamber scene. "Willie, We...are going...to die!" (Indy's expression when he says that is freakin' priceless).
• The whole sacrifice scene (Don't ask why...I just like it).
• The fight against the giant Thugee guy ontop of the conveyor belt.
• The mine cart chase.
• A reference to the swordsman gag in Raiders, when two Thugees with swords appear. Indy reaches for his gun, but finds that it's not there, and gives a fake little laugh. Priceless.
• The rope bridge scene.
Last Crusade
• The opening along with Young Indy and the Portugese coast fightscene that follows.
• When Indy meets Donovan for the first time.
• The catacombes underneath the library.
• "Whats this one?" "The Ark of the Covenant..." "Are you sure?" "Pretty sure..." (Indy's response to Elsa's question makes me crack up every time).
• The Venice boat chase.
• When Indy meets his father in Brumwauld castle.
• When Marcus wanders around lost in Iskendurun.
• When Indy and his dad are tied up in the chair. ("The floor's on fire." "What?!" "And the chair.")
• The motorcycle chase.
• When Indy and his dad talk on the Zeppelin.
• The aerial fight in the plane. ("I didn't know you could fly a plane!" "Fly, yes! Land...No!"
• "I suddenly remembered Charlemagne. Let my armies be the rocks and the trees, and the birds in the sky."
• The tank chase.
• "Don't you see? The pen, is mightier, than the sword!"
• The three challenges Indy has to pass to get to the holy grail.
• When Donovan drinks from the wrong grail (I just love watching him turn into an old man, then a skeleton, then dust. It's awsome!)
• When Henry Sr. calls Indy "Indiana" for the very first time in the movie.
• The end where Indy, Henry, Sallah, and Marcus ride off into the sunset.
Well, that's about it...
