1.) When you saw Raiders for the very first time (sigh-- memories), were you under the impression from the scenes in South America that Indy was one of the "bad guys?"

When I first saw Raiders when I was a kid (12 years old!), that's what I thought. He was just as scruffy-looking as Satipo and Barranca and acted just as sneaky and tough, so that's what I thought. I thought he was an experienced thief, maybe a seedy grave robber. I just figured he was the head "bad guy" because he was smarter and tougher. Did any of you get the impression that Indy was a "bad guy?" Do you think Spielburg/Lucas did it that way on purpose?

2.) At what point in the movie did you realize Indy was a "good guy?"

I know this was kinda long. I'm really curious to see your answers!

I saw this movie when I was 5and now i'm 14. (i guess I was born to watch movies). At any rate I never thought of Indy as a bad guy (I was old enough to comprhend who was who). He was traveling with Stapito and Barranca because he hired them as guides of some sort. It was clearly established that the Hovetos were the bad guys.

I remember watching Robin Williams dance in Toys in his red suit for hours at that age...drove my parents nuts. That and the lion king 24/7

I thought Jones was Han Solo dressed as a cowboy who trusted the wrong people.

This is one of the earliest movies I've ever seen that I can still remember. I was only 4 when I first saw the movies but I knew he was the good guy. Mainly because he was on the box :p

At first I did not no what to think. But then the guide pulled the gun on Indy and I heard the hair raising crack of the bullwhip. From then on I knew Indy was a good guy. I was 5 when I first saw it. Now I am 15. (I will never forgive my parents for not having me in time to see Raiders in theaters.)

As was the case with me. We bought a previewed LC on VHS back in '90 and got the other two at a McDonalds the following year.

When I first saw him I knew he was a good guy on sight as well as one of the coolest heros ever.

It's not a laser gun, it's a blaster. It was designed from the German C96 "Broomhandle" Mauser.

Well, this is the first time I have posted on here (long time lurker), but I agree so strongly with the first poster that I thought I would pop my posting cherry here.:D

When I first saw Raiders I was 5 years old and a V.BIG Han Solo fan. During the opening scene, Like the first poster, I was convinced that Han Solo had turned into a bad guy. It took me a while to differenciate between the two characters. I remember after the first viewing I was a shade disturbed by the opening of the ark scene and asked my mother if she could put Star Wars on to lighten my mood!

Needless to say, after a few viewings, Indiana Jones was my hero too.(Just not on the same level as Han Solo...at least for a few years).

Now, Raiders is my fave film of all time. I have recently introduced my 5 year old son to it who had no problem with the idea that Indy was a good guy and not in the least bit related to Han Solo. Sheesh! Kids r so much smarter these days!!

I knew right away he was the good guy. not because he was "Han Solo' in a different costume but because he could have killed Barranca instead of merely whip-snaring the gun out of his hand., but he chose to spare the double- crosser. That showed morals. indy will kill in a gunfight if need be but he won't kill if he doesn't have to.
