Disney, at one point put out a 60 dollar whip at the adventure outpost stores in their parks in Florida and Cali. The whip was a collectable/official Indy merchandise sort of thing. Now I can't find them. I'm guessing they pulled them after 9/11. Does anybody else know what i'm talking about?

I do. I was there this year at spring break and they had them for $66.00. I guess they put them back on the shelves. I would love to buy one, but I cant afford it. lol

The problem is I'd have to fly to Florida or get the serial number for mail order...and that's hard

I don't have alot of cash to throw around. If i could get a 750 dollar, quality whip i would.
Get a EC Budget Indy whip. http://www.geocities.com/ecwhips/Indy.html
It is about $200.

I do have a whip from mexico that I use for some short fiolms i've made...however like most of the things you buy from mexico it's starting to fall apart.
IndyMcFly
06-15-2004, 10:26 AM
lol - that's true. I had a whip from Mexico, and it fell apart... badly. It sounds to me, that the color of the whip you buy isn't the problem, because I think I remember those whips being black or some awful lookin' brown or something. If that's the case, you can also get a good beginner whip from Lee Keppler at www.adventure-supply.com They're black, yeah, but they're styled after the original whips, and like I said, they're good beginner whips. The only problem with them is the wait time... Lee takes a while to get out orders.

lol Yup... good call. Anybody who doesn't know what an Akubra is, needs to be told. I'm trying to convince my friend to get one. He wants a hockey stick instead... Maybe I'll get him a Short Round hat.

You probably mean "a hat". Something like a wool Dorfman Pacific from Disneyworld with an Indiana Jones pin.

I have one of those around here somewhere...as far as the disney hats go they're now scotchguarded so rain doesn't affect them...however that pin is so annoying

You know how many Akubras you could get for $700? Better yet, you could get an Akubra, some good boots (Aldens, hint hint), and a Wested, not to mention a good stock of LL Bean stuff or a set of Wested shirt and pants! Don't spend $700 for a one night thing, spend $700 on stuff that you'll have for years, and makes you look great, too!

During Halloween I stand outside dressed as Indy (in the cairo scenes) showing off my whipping abilities. I live in Wisconsin...in october...with a half unbuttoned shirt....It's cold. Dunno why I told you that.
anyway. The Disney whips just looked really good. Something to hang on your wall or take to costume parties. I'm sure you can crack it once or twice...but more then that it may be damaged.

I got my David morgan whip about 7 months ago.
It's the same as the one Harrison uses in the raiders.
I got pretty good at it.
At first I whipped myself over the head with it. But now I got it under controle.

It is for me. I recently spent money to see Jerry Seinfeld. That was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.

Ah, get a hat... there's nothing like walkin' around with an Indy hat on, feeling like you can conquer the world. (Or maybe that's just me... heheh...) Well, it is your money, spend it as you will... but remember, "experience outweighs materialism, every time." You spend your $200 and see Madonna, maybe get an autograph, maybe shake her hand, maybe go home without anything but a memory of a fun night. Or, you spend $200 on a great hat and a good pair of shirt and pants, and begin a journey that will last you years, years of great memories of wonderful people and maybe spectacular places, you can take your gear with you wherever you want, and you can have fun doing it. You can take photos of yourself in your gear at locations around the world when you go on vacation, and you can look stylish, recieve numerous comments and praise, you can have the best Halloween costume on the neighborhood, and you can be Harrison Ford's twin. ;) Your choice... I don't want to be one who's telling you what to do with your money, I'm only making a suggestion, it's up to you... God bless.

Since I have enough to buy a Akubra Federation I'll do that as opposed to waiting to get the whip. As well as a new pair of khakis and a safari shirt. In the long run I'm sure it'll prove to be worth it.
I've already purchased the Maddy tickets and that's not gonna change. However, this summer begins my quest to improve my Ingygear collection. Soon i'll have enough money to buy the shirt and pants on top of what I have to buy the fedora right now.
No more cheap disney stuff.

I have a quick question, ya'll: What exactly do you do with an official Indy whip? Or is the answer not appropriate for this board? :p
IndyMcFly
06-16-2004, 04:41 PM
Well... you put it on your belt... and you watch it rot away like Donovan. lol - that is, if you crack it enough times. Disney stuff isn't very good. That's why I'm getting rid of my hat as soon as I can. Well, I'm not getting rid of it, but I'll be getting a Keppler fedora and leaving the Disney hat as a display piece. I got it like... 2 years ago on a field trip to Disneyland. And I didn't have to pay for it... :D
In Christ,
Shane
So.... you basically just buy a superexpensive whip just to hang on your belt and get girls? Interesting. Though I must admit, if I met a guy with a fedora and a whip, I'd melt. Run, guys! kate's coming! :p

Well, you don't just hang it on your belt... only when you're not using it. You should learn to crack it, you know. And that's not as simple as it sounds... one guy took his ear off, and he was skilled! It's a tough business, crackin' whips.

IndyMcFly
06-17-2004, 10:44 AM
Yeah, but usually if you do that, the whip is going to rot and fall apart... it needs air, some Pecards leather dressing once in a while, and of course a bit of use. But cheap is not worth it... because you can't buy a kangaroo hide bullwhip for cheap! And a kangaroo hide whip is the only one that looks authentic. Mine is cowhide... look at it! (Note: This is not a Disney whip, but a whip made by Mr. Lee Keppler, at www.adventure-supply.com)

I may go in that direction as apposed to a david morgan whip.

Well...
The keppler whip is ok i guess. I have never seen one in person so I cant make quick statments. But from looking at thoes pictures i can tell you a few things. The keppler whip does not have a constant taper. The handle is large, and as soon as the thong of the whip leaves the handle area it becomes a small 4 plait all the way down to the tip of the whip. Because the keppler whip does not have a constant taper from the handle to the tip (end of the whip) it is much harder to crack. It would be much better if you bought a EC whip even though the keppler is ok. The EC has better handling and wheight and will crack easier.

I did that ten times before. I always got my fedora on when I,m in the jungle.

ive got a question though...as Indy fan IF i would get a whip I definitly wouldn't get any other colour than the original one is. A black whip? Yuck, that's just wrong. Or is it me?

I'm excited to get a kangaroo hide whip myself... but if you watch Last Crusade, watch that last scene, where they're in the temple. To me, his whip looks very black right there... maybe I'm seeing things, but I swear it's black. Nonetheless, I know black isn't screen accurate, and as a GearHead that's disappointing, but I will get a good whip... I aim to have 1 of every item by Halloween of 2007. So, no doubles of anything... yet. Of course, my Dorfman Pacific...? That's another story. It'll be gone as soon as I get this last batch of stuff with the money I've got right now... gunbelt with whip holder, new strap for my MkVII, and a web belt. I'm going to hold up on getting things that require a specific size, because I kinda want them to fit in 2007. http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v295/Vanquish738/29cd77ad.gif

Well my problem is that I don't think I could bash an Akubra and make it look right! And, how / where do I get the Akubra cleaned or reblocked? That's definately a plus, but I'd like to know where to take the hat if or when I get one. Besides... Michaelson said that "The only other fedoras I own that perform the same way are the PB custom, Keppler, and Fed Deluxe. Regards. Michaelson" So I guess the Keppler holds up well like the Akubra... and I won't have to reblock it. But believe me, if I had any doubt it were a bad hat, I'd get an Akubra. I've got faith in this lid though, so I'm kind of excited to try it out. I don't know... I'm just attracted to this hat a little more than the Akubra. Though, getting an Akubra a little further down the road doesn't seem too out of the question.
