View Full Version : What is Your life while waiting for Indy 4?

This comes as curiosity for me, just wondering - for the majority of Indy fans : what sort of life are you living while waiting for the release of Indy 4? Do you guys/gals travel? have you done something extra-ordinary recently? What sort of adventures you guys/gals embarking on (going to and fro Cinema Theater is not considered adventures)? Are you guys logging into this Raven message board everyday just to know about rumors or stories that amount to nothing when the actual film comes out? Are you guys/gals some professor or academician that is studying history/archaelogy?
P.S. : I m sure this will draw a lot of flames from lots of you, but be open - think about it.

Who are you to make assupmtions about what I or anyone on this board does? I'm a reporter by trade, and I sign on here when I have writer's block because it is a pleasant distraction.
I travel around my state quite frequently, I enjoy being with real people in real situations, but I like to come on here as a reminder that there is a large, diverse world out there, and I still can't wrap my brain around the fact that I get to communicate with people on the other side of my country as well as Europe and beyond. First and foremost, this is a message board for people seperated by land or by oceans to communicate ideas on a wide variety of subjects. Yes they are related to a certain movie hero, but the topics stray quite a bit. Have you even bothered to check out the Film Scores thread, or the thread I posted on James Joyce's "Ulysses"? If you had, you'd see that we are a diverse group ourselves with a variety of interests outside the Indiana Jones universe. To quote the Breakfast Club, " You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? "

How is AntiJones message different than Renderking Fisk's message? Each member is asking about outside adventures, and I have read the above message several times. I don't read anything in it that warranted a personal attack. He neither singled out any particular member, and used no inappropriate language.

Sorry, but he got my Irish up. I'll clean up my post, but Anti-Jones was being condescending. He was implying that we're all fanboys who do nothing but post here. He was assuming because we post here, we have no lives outside of waiting for an Indy film. And that little coda at the end of his post wasn't meant to be a friendly invitiation.
Or maybe I'm just cranky because I need some lunch.

I'm a graduate student, so I've been doing a lot of traveling around the country to conferences and attending lectures/research presentations.
The academic part can be quite boring at times, but the traveling is certainly first rate. High-dollar hotels, first-class airfare, black-tie balls, and danger around every corner. No, it's not as exciting as all that, but I can spin it as needed. Good question!

I work in animation. Mainframe entertainment, so I stay pretty busy with that. Though I also make games and do some web programming.
But mostly I write and write and write.
I was a lot more adventurous before I met my g/f. Now I have boyfriend bod and have totally chilled out... :(

Since you asked, in the past three months I've:
(1) gone on day trips with my wife and two girls (one about to turn 4 and another who has just turned 1) to: (i) the Bronx Zoo (we're members and typically go 4 times a year), the (ii) Bronx Botanical Gardens, and (iii) Woodlawn Cemetery (one of the most desolate, beautiful and undervalued urban spaces in North America. We go to look at the architecture and beautiful stained glass and appreciate the isolation).
(2) took my girls to the local High Schools' annual spring fair (like the one at the end of 'Grease')
(3) ran about an average of 11+ miles a week
(4) had my younger daughter's first birthday party
(5) gone out with my wife in New York City, including a Friday Night at the Metropolitatan Museum of Art, at least one night hanging out in the East Village, and at least one night in Times Square. We ate dinner in a couple of new restaurants (including a chinese place in alphabet city, a southern homestyle place in the lower East Side and a place called the 'Spotted Pig' in the Lower West side -- I'll send you the Zagat reviews if you'd like . . . ).
(6) Seen the following movies: Hidalgo, Starksy and Hutch, Kill Bill Volume #2, and Azkaban
(7) Over Memorial Day Weekend I took my 3+ year old daughter on her first overnight backpacking trip at Harriman State Park (just south of West Point) where I packed both her and our gear on my back,
(8) mountain biking with co-workers, and
(9) During the last week of March, I took my family on a week's vacation down in the Big Bend Country of Texas -- we stayed at a place on the Rio Grande and, among other things, we went hiking in the Big Bend Parks and toured the Chinati Foundation in Marfa Texas (in my opinion, the second best Minimalist art museum in the country behind my favorite museum, the Dia-Beacon here in New York).
And what we haven't done during that time is watched any network TV or sitcoms, idled away time by going to a shopping mall or when possible not wasted a beautiful day/evening by not taking a walk in our neighborhood. For the remainder of the summer, in addition to my job, the typical housework/upkeep and quality time with the kids, I expect we'll go to beach (hopefully camping somewhere in Jersey), and take a week and visit family in Pittsburgh where I hope to do more hiking, go to Kennywood Park, and visit the Warhol Musuem, If I'm lucky and my wife cuts me loose for a day, I'll catch a day of Steeler training camp in Latrobe PA. I also hope to catch the first ever Lebowskifest here in New York in August since I'm missing the fest in Kentucky this weekend (tickets for the New York fest go on sale the first week of July). Hopefully, I'll hook up with my brother and do some backpacking. And on a lighter note, based on a recommendation from one of the mods here, I just bought a copy of the 'Rule of Four' which I plan to read to my wife over the summer. All-in-all, pretty normal stuff -- but certainly more than just sitting in front of a terminal babbling about Indy IV. Bear in mind, as a father of two young children, I'm not in the stage of my life where high adventure is the order of the day.
Yes, one of my favorite diversions is hanging out on this message board. I don't think it's because I don't have a life. Instead, I do it for the reasons stated above: I like hanging out with a smart diverse group of people on at least two continents who happen to share a common interest in a great film. I enjoy interacting with people with different beliefs and different ages -- and I am thankful for everything they've exposed me to. On this last point I'd especially note that I like interacting with some of the younger people -- guys like VP (the first that comes to mind) -- who are considerate, resourceful. and mature beyond their years. This group is incredibly positive and supportive (and not in some scary kumbayah sort of way) and I count myself lucky to part of it all. There's a lot more going on here than the madness that has become this Indy IV forum (and incidentally some of the other off-topic threads).
I'm 35 and if there's one thing I've learned it is that life is short. You really have to push and challenge yourself. So Anti-Indy, I'm glad there are people like you and Mr. Fisk to push and question. I'd like to hear how you spend your time because I have to admit, I too drew a negative inference from your post -- but (not surprisingly) there are better people than me on this forum like Palehorse who was able to objectively break down your post and give you the benefit of the doubt. That objectivity, I submit, is a rare thing -- now prove that you deserve it.
And remember, people are here for all different reasons. . . . and I don't think any of us are claiming to be anything special.

Oh, wait a second...
Is this a 'let's insult people who love indiana jones' question?
Then I change my answer to:
Nothing. I've been sitting in front of my tv (in an empty apartment) with nothing but my remote control surfing channels hoping to see the first preview.
I no longer sleep. Instead, I pace around in front of my computer on the Countdown to Indy IV site, and keep refreshing.
I don't eat or drink. Instead I repeat quotes from the previous movies over and over in my head, hoping to never forget them... EVER.
after all, it's not the years, it's the mileage.

Until Indy 4 comes along I will live my life like I do every day.
my life is just like one big adventure.
I'm a security guard. Some of the things I do at work could be made in to a movie.
I have been beaten up, stabbed, shot and I still love what I do for a living.
In august I'm gonna go on a three week jungle trip in vietnam.
And untill Indy 4 comes along me and my wife are gone watch our 16 month old daughter grow up. Thats the real adventure.

Anti-Jones,
This is a great question, and I'll be happy to answer.
I am a Secret Agent, I work for an ultra-secret World Espionage agency called...........OK nevermind what it's called.
I'm not sure about everyone else here but I log on to the Raven to communicate with, and get my secret instructions from my cell leader......Finn.
His ultra-secret instructions to me are encoded in his posts.
Since you took the time to log on here and are probably taking the time to come back and read the responses to your disingenuously provocative post, I have to assume that you too are a member of...........

I completely agree with Temple of John…
Why would our lives be any different? Just because there's a movie that might or might not be made? I mean.. it's not as if you wake up each day with the thought of a possible Indy 4 in your mind.
It be weird if a persons live would completely revolve around a movie in the first place, let alone revolve around a movie which might not even get made.
...and now I'm out of here; I got to do some homework... Ah.. what an adventurous live I have… ;)
Monkey, could you please go and get some milk from the store?
...oh yeah, and on your way home, if you don't mind a little detour, track down and kill Bin Laden.
Nothing else to say. The sarcasm factor in this post will make itself impossible to exist in five seconds.

In essence, I agree with this statement. However, it also depends on how old you are. If your only 15 or 16, Indiana Jones or whatever it is that floats your boat may very well be the most adventure you'll have until can sprout your own wings.
However, if you're 30...yep! Somthing's definitely wrong if your only chance at life isn't being led to the fullest.

Though I would advise highly against it, if the prospect of a fourth Indiana Jones film is meaningful to someone, then let it be meaningful to him. As for me, there are more days in which Indiana Jones does not enter my thoughts than those in which he does, but we all have the right to live our lives as we see fit. I do not mean to suggest that anyone here was expressing an opinion to the contrary, but I feel that this out to be mentioned.

It's good to see people stand up to bullies, however, it's the internet... "Anti-Jones" is nothing more than a low-life, computer g33k that has no life and has nothing better to do than to ATTEMPT to bully us Indy fans because it makes him/her feel better about themself. Like I said, I'm glad people can stand up to bullies, and this is the internet... Just ignore him/her and they'll go away. :) Don't feed the fire. Fight this fire with water and watch it die out... "Anit-Jones" is just a loser who decided to come here and go trolling...

To stay in the theme of the thread, I will answer with this:
Absolute
I hold a spoon, which isn’t there,
And it’s reflecting me;
But when the spoon begins to bend,
I slowly start to see:
That I am just an empty hole,
Within a lump of clay;
A needle’s eye, where camels walk;
The open-gated way.
I am a drop of water in
An ocean made from sand,
The riddle of the answer for
The single clapping hand.
Or maybe I am beauty pure,
In poems penned by Keats;
Perhaps the jealous lover, chaste;
That Plato must compete.
But who am I to see such truths
Their trouble, lies within;
Alas, the glass is empty now
That I was looking in.
I write while I wait. Among many other things...

Thank you, Indyologist. I would have never thought of it as beautiful. I just wanted people to see that while I am waiting, I constantly examine myself, and then I try to convey that to others through my art.

Much as you guys claim that you have a life out there, I found it interesting that in the most recent thread (George Lucas & Spielberg were only patronising HF) I put up, the insults hurled at me are actually borrowed lines from Indy movies (sigh). Oh goodness me, it really irked me as those individual is living in a smaller and smaller world. I have expected the you-know-who to come out with more brilliant quotes instead of those borrowed lines. Here's a word for you guys "Live not your life through others whom you see wonderful; go, live and see your life wonderfully"

wether or not you choose to believe it, most of the people here are very smart. Don't think you're above us....because you're not.
Oh one more thing: you come onto a board loaded with people passionate about these movies and stories and bash them...you expected not to have some insults thrown at you?

In getting back to the original post...
I haven't been on this board for a while. Those of you who knew me, know I have traveled before in the past, and that the past year I have spent bumming around my province doing several jobs, and then finally settling. This, of course, was after a wonderful three-month study in Cuba. In all this time I have kept up with The Raider.net and The Raven, but my time has been failry limited as far as posting has been concerned.
In short, I've been busy. But I've been trying to keep up with the community...you people are my only link, and my only source of hope that Indiana Jones will ride again!!
To keep the dream alive, I've been wearing the hat and jacket all over the place. Now that summer has arrived, I'm all about the khaki shirt...but that's just me.

As I wait...I'm watching newer movies like the mummy movies, hidalgo, and stuff like that. You know movies of the same genre. It keeps my hopes of Indy 4 alive
A life... that's too bad... I give Jones1899 my condolences... Hopefully he's gone to a better place...
Fedora? Nope. I have a ridiculous hat that looks something like it, though. It's lying around somewhere--don't know where--haven't tried to find it in years.
EDIT: If you're getting at the despensible Fedora thread, I have an explanation there. Sorry, again.
... probably not.
I wore my own hat maybe twice. My friend said I looked like a, I believe this was the word, hick.
To be honest, I have not yet even called upon what I'm doing in my life currently.
For the wholesome of my little life, I've been either studying something or then working hard. I'm one of those lads who born to a working-class family (whatever that means these days in a western world - go figure) but somehow was blessed with enough grey material so I was able to awhile back get out of school, with fairly excellent grades. This is pretty interesting, since this far, no one of my family has been through more theoretical studies than those required to run a profession, and now they're suddenly all over the "smart" lad. Anyway, what I'm doing currently is that I'm back to the family tradition, a.k.a. giving one more shot to a physical work. I work at a warehouse, long days, it's a dull job to do to move crates from spot A to spot B, but it brings bread to the table, 'specially I'm (finally) practically living on my own now.
For the upcoming year of 2005, my life is also pretty much settled up, since I'll be entering the draft service that's (un?)fortunately required as a go-through for every young man of my age where I live. I have no exceptations of what awaits me there, will they make me even more a man than what I'm now or not. After that... well, I guess I'm trying to go and see if I'd get somewhere to learn even more new things. I appear to have what it takes. I think.
So... for those people out there who think that this little secluded corner of web that is spared for us is cramming with nothing than n0lifes who spend their days discussing 20-year-old movies... think again.

It’s great that someone with credentials like yours you would still want to hang with clowns like us once in a while. Lifts the place up and gives The Raven a touch of class, incapable of being diminished by the likes of some rude POS.
Two geeks trying their best to impress and singing "We got life". Sourcing out pictures that tells everyone - see , we actually have life (Let's look out for some more people who can give us a touch of class)..hahahahaha....really cute. Much as you try , you are only reinforcing the fact that most of your life are spent here and if I did not log on, I don't even know that there are people actually trying to prove that they got life...hahahahahhahahahhahaha.

will that hold up in court?
It seems to me every thread he posts in he says something negative and pisses people off. It's always fun to watch someone make an idiot of themself but enough is enough.
