On Friday I was browsing around at a shopping mall in town and I found something that I knew I had to have.

A filmcell from Raiders of the Lost Ark!!! :P

I tried many times to take a picture of the actual film, but was unsuccessful, but you can just make out a couple of people wearing fedora's. This piece of film is the part after Indy is sat at a table drinking, believing that Marion is dead, and is the part where Indy is making his way to Belloq.

I paid £45 for this and am absolutely thrilled that I own a piece of the greatest action adventure movie in film history! :D

Hmmm...£45....

How much would that be in American money??
Hahaha.

Isn't it two dollars = one pound?

... I don't even want to think about.

82.512 US Dollars

Great find, Canyon.

45 pounds = about 80 US dollars = about 70 euros.

Not bad.

So I'm off ten bucks.

*scowls* Sure. Go on ahead. Make me look like an idiot.

... Again.

WOW! That's awesome! How in the world did you find that at a mall!!?? You would NEVER see anything like that in any mall in the US. You'd have to go to a flea/antique/collectable market to find items such as that.

There is a shop in my mall called Sportizus and they sell signed memorabilia. :D

Here is a link to their website:

You paid around $80 for 4.5 frames of film that prolly originated from a movie trailer? These things pop up on eBay all the time from all different movies.... James Bond being big, and surprisinly enough, most of them are over in the UK. There is a seller on eBay who uses that same kind of frame and nameplate..... what do they sell for on eBay? Usually nobody buys them because they are over priced, but when the do sell, they usually only bring in between $10 - $20. It is very nice looking though, and you don't have to wait or deal with any online sellers either.......

Man, I hate to be the one bringing bad news.....

Thanks Renderking.

007, what's the big deal? I myself have always wanted to own something like this and I am thrilled that I got it from a legitimate source.

I've been collecting Indy memorabilia for fifteen years, and £45 is hardly going to break the bank. ;)

But it still can be... well, I'm not going to be the storm bird and say it.

Cool, i like it Canyon! Looks really 'authentic' with the whole frame and the gold plate sign on it. Great find!

That's A-Class archeology work you did there in the mall :D

Hey Pal....

I hate to see when people get taken advantage of and pay a bit more than what something is worth. I just want others to know their options. It's like I said.. there's no hassle and no wait like with online sellers that way. If you think it's worth it, go for it; if not, there are other options man. That's all.

Don't have a freaking heart attack man.

Check this out (on eBay):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=53594&item=3825874433&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Looks familiar (minus the gold frame)

I love the line " YOU WILL NOT FIND THIS PRODUCT ANYWHERE ELSE" in the product description.

About six years ago, there was a store at the Garden State Plaza that sold film cells from the Star Wars movies. I have a cell of Han, Leia, and Chewie in the Millenium Falcon from The Empire Strikes Back--I think I paid $20 for it, but it was not as nicely presented as Canyon's. I think you definitely got your money's worth, considering how it is packaged. Great find, Canyon! Congratulations! :D

I bought something similar on ebay, but it was from The Fugitive. Wouldn't mind getting some Indy cells though...

$40 is too steep for me. I would go as high as $25, though.

Some of you guys are really trying hard to take the shine off Canyon's purchase. Thankfully it's not working.

Unless Canyon thinks this is the original film which was running through the camera on the ROTLA set (and I doubt she thinks that!), then I'm sure she's quite aware that this is taken from a print of the film. And what's the problem with that?

The fact of the matter is, this is an attractively framed piece of memorabilia, reflecting what the film looks like "as film" and it makes for a nice wall hanging. And it would seem that this is what it has been purchased as.

You guys should save your righteousness, especially you 007, for topics that really matter. A £45 framed item which is attractibe and which can last indefinitely, with care, is hardly a dodgy watch from a street vendor that stops working 10 minutes after you buy it. Why act like it is?

Belated 'hi' to Canyon -- it's Indiana Irwin from COW here.

Yeah, framing's expensive and would probably be a lot of that cost.

Hey, I've got no problem if Canyon likes it.

I have a problem with the ethics of the item itself: the brass plate itself states "Original Filmcell, Limited Edition, etc"

Very untruthful, very misleading

blur

Well, it might be ambiguous... but is it those other things? I wouldn't think so.

It is an original film cell. Look at it... it's not a photocopy of a film cell; it's not something drawn by a three year old with crayons... it is an original film cell. Is it the original film that ran through Spielberg's camera? No. But it is an original Raiders print.

And it is a limited edition insofar as being presented like this, in this series. Granted, it doesn't mean a heck of a lot - most "limited editions" don't - but it doesn't make this the spawn of Satan or anything sinister.

Ah, but that's the illusion that it's trying to represent: that it is THE original, that it IS limited. Imagine some young kid finding this, spending his hard -earned money, only to find out later that thses are a dime a dozen, and that it's basically worthless form a collector's standpoint.

Johan

even if it was a dime a dozen...I would still want it.

Well, that's the danger with "kids" buying anything, isn't it? But I'm not sure if there are too many "kids" however who could afford the pricetag. Further, as a married woman, Canyon (who is the point of this thread), isn't a "kid".

Indy Benson

I know plenty of young "kids' who can come up with the coin to buy that piece.
Regardless, if Canyon likes it, so be it.

Heh, I love how you try and turn around the conversation in that last line. Yes, Canyon does love it - and although I don't even know her, I haven't liked the way in which posts in this thread have tried to detract her enjoyment from it; including yours, Benson. Remember saying that it's basically worthless form a collector's standpoint? Stuff like that can wound people.

Greetings from a new member. I have to throw in with those who have expressed great joy in this find. Canyon, good job! I have seen similar pieces in WDW MGM Studios go for a good deal more than you paid, even given the current exchange rate. And, of course, you're happy with it, so what else really matters?
