I've read a bit of info on the filming of Brunwald Castle in the last Crussade.
It seems that a castle located somewhere in germany, more specifically, West Germany, was only filmed from outside.
I'm going on a trip to germany soon and would be interested in visiting this castle can anyone tell me which one it is and where it is located?
Thanks.

I guess I asked a good question....no replies yet....can't anyone help me?
Hmm. Perhaps you could expand your sources a bit? There's never been much info about the real-life location of this castle, which has always driven me to think they were using a matté.
TIE and IndyGear only say that it's located in Germany. Maybe find a site with all German castles, and then look for a one that looks like this:

Castle Brunwald is an actual castle in West Germany, but the producers decided after the photography was done, that the castle was actually too small. So matte painting artists were called upon to make it look bigger, but also to add the menacing sky and rain storm.

PLEASE speaking about this Castle, there is a question I like to post, maybe it was discussed already...I'm sorry then, well how does Indy know that his father's room was that one, he says something about the electricity cable? what's the connection?

Indy: This one. I think he's in here.
Elsa: How do you know?
Indy: Because it's wired.
As he says this, the camera follows Indy gesture to a device on the wall. The door has an alarm.

How do I get one of those cool Indy icons to appear under my name? Or do I have to be a moderator or someone special?

Look in the FAQ under that very same question you just posted.
We're all "someone special." (As long as you have at least 100 posts.) :D

Unless I am mistaken the castle is in Salzburg. I seem to remember seeing it when I was there in 1983.
Well in the movie it's located a bit north from Salzburg.

Brunwald Castle should actually be spelled Brunnwald Castle. I made a typo mistake. Brunnwald Castle is actually 4 km from Bad Leonfelden. It's near the Austrian / Czech border. It's North of the main city of Linz , Austria. It is a small castle.
For those interested here are another few facts that are hard to come by:
The motorcycle used by Indiana Jones to escape Brunnwald Castle is a BMW R71, which was the model used by the Nazi's in 1938.
There are copies of the bike currently made by the Chineese and Russian Companies.
Castle Wolfenstein is a fictional name. However, castle wolfenstein was inspired by Castle Wewelsburg. Castle Wewelsburg was the center of operations for Himmler and his SS. They had ceremonies there and tried to harness supernatural powers. It's located in the city of Buren Germany. It's in the Province of Westphalia in the district of Paderborn.

Also, for those interested the castle that was used as a headquarters for Anarchy 99 in the movie XXX.
The castle used is named "Vranov nad Dyjí", and is located in the Czech Republic.
The Arts & Special effects department of the production company digitally enhansed it to set it amidst the alps.
Some say the Tyrolian Alps in Austria, some say mountains 1 hour north of Prague.

I recently came to know the real location of the so called Castle Brunwald (many thanks go to Marco Froemter for his brilliant article in the german Star Wars Magazine).
The real castle is Schloss Buerresheim in the vincinity (approx. 3 km) of a german town called Mayen near Koblenz. Last weekend I was there and it is amazing.
The actual movie image was not only expanded by a matte painting, but also flipped. But after all this castle is still a beauty, though.
If you guys are still interested in this topic, I am able to show photos of the actual location as it looks today and give you a more detailed report on the location, the expansion, etc.....

As requested, here are some pics of the Castle (or Schloss as we call it in germany) Buerresheim that stood in as castle Brunwald in Indy III:

As you can see, part of the castle, as it appears in the movie, is missing.
Here is an excerpt from the Making of section of theraider.net, referring to this:
For Indy and Elsa's arrival at the Austrian stonewalled castle, an actual castle was photographed in West Germany. When the real edifice was later deemed too small, however, ILM matte department supervisor Mark Sullivan was called upon to expand it with a painting.

I wandered around the castle, to get another angle of it and discovered the above shot.
I asume, that matte supervisor Mark Sullivan and his crew took a similar shot of the castle to have a reference for enhancing the original shot.
Please note, that the towers and window arrangements are different in my "fake" shot, but back in the eighties they had to do stuff of this with actual matte paintings and couldn't just "photoshop" this in.

I hope this was helpfull for you.

Interesting. I had always thought the place was just fiction, now I see it as stretched reality. I'll have to add it to the list of places I want to visit, I suppose. :p
