I'm wondering if anyone here has ever met anyone famous? If so who, where and whats the story behind it.Personally I have come accross quite a few famous people. As I'm sure most of you know, Canada is quite popular these days for movie filming. Having lived most of my life in Montreal up untill just recently everyone I have met was in Montreal.

Halle Berry- I was at a bar in which I was a regular at. I was standing outside chatting with my buddy. Then a car pulls up and the window comes down. There is Halle Berry looking right at me and no more then an arms length away. Her husband at the time was also in the car. Turns out they needed directions so of course I was happy to help out.

Tim Roth- I was again at the same bar. Tim Roth was sitting at the bar having a few drinks. So when I went up to the bar and ordered my Jack Daniels and Coke I struck up a friendly conversation with him. It didn't take long though for other folks to notice him and they started to bombard him with questions like " aren't you that guy from Pulp Fiction?". So he shook my hand and was on his way.

Keira Knightly- I was visiting a friend of mine in a small town in just outside Montreal. We were walking down Main st. and noticed there was a movie filming so we went over to check it out. I suppose the actors were on their way out for lunch because they were leaving the filming grounds and thats when I met her. It was very brief but she was very sweet about it. I did get an autogragh though.

Blink 182- This one goes back to 1998. Blink was in town for a show. I went to an autogragh session they were having before the concert. So one of my friends decides he is going dislocate his arm(which he can do at any given time) once he meets them. So he does his little trick they love it and give us all backstage passes to the concert and they ask him if he would be willing to do it live on stage. Naturally he agreed and we even got to sit on the stage for the show.

being involved with writing and film, I've met too many to count, but my favorite was Harrison Ford, of course! He and Jimmy Buffet had just gotten their ears pierced when I met them briefly.

The most recent one was Orlando Bloom, while I worked on his newest film, ELIZABETHTOWN.

Although, most of these folks are pretty down-to-earth, I guess breaking the 'normal routine' with a star is a perk.

I wish i have, but I live in a very small town and don't go to alot of places Famous people go to I guess.

The only famous people I have met was chris chellios, plays for the red wings. I met him at his resturant in Michigan.

And George Bush. But I didn't get to shake his hand or anything i was at one of his speaches (pretty close up to him).

I am out here in California, so 'Star Sightings' are fairly common. In my younger years, when I worked at Disney, there were all sorts of folk who came and ate at the restaurant I worked at, most notably Nelson Mandela (though I didn't actually "meet" him), and the Jacksons (Michael and Janet). After a time, it becomes routine, with only a mild shock of "what are you doing here?" I guess. But every once in a while, someone special comes along.

William "Bill" Cobbs

What a great, down to earth guy. First time we met, he ordered a margarita on the rocks, Cadillac of course, while I was bartending at a lesser known Mexican restaurant. Blew me away he was sitting at my bar. I kept my cool, and over the next couple of years, we developed a small friendship, that never included his being an actor. He loves football, and is Steeler fan.

Gary Hoey

There is also a local radio station out here and I am good friends with the Morning D.J.'s. Every Thanksgiving, I cater them breakfast, and now that includes some great Rock legends. After breakfast last year, Gary Hoey joked about taking me on tour with him (yes ladies, if you don't know by know, I also cook). He is another genuine article and a pleasure to know. Heh, I even had him sign a Christmas C/D to my Baptist father, it was a crack up.

You met the Big HF? No way! What's he like? What did you say to him and what did he say back?

He is almost everything like you see him on screen. When he laughs its loud. When he isn't he's quiet, contemplative, and observes everything around him. He also has the air of privacy around him, meaning, just be cool and act normal.

Jimmy buffet can get him laughing, that's for sure. (a little side note - I also saw him a lot when I spent about 6 months on Cape Cod, while he was filming Sabrina)

I've met quite a few celebs--mostly in the 90's when I did most of my charity work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

I met Jeff Hostetler, former quarterback for the NY Giants at a charity softball event. The same with Phil Simms, another former Giants QB, whom I met a few years later.

I met stunning Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Carol Alt at the same event that I met Jeff Hostetler.

When I was much younger, I met Regis Philbin at the opening of a mall in my area.

Recently, I met Peter Frampton at a CD signing at the local Borders Books and Music that I covered for the paper.

I met Mike Piazza when I worked at Starbucks. He was a jerk. I met David Lander, aka Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. He was a real gentleman and super nice. And funny. He gave a lecture at Borders when I worked there about 4 years ago.

My favorite, though, was meeting Tim Reid (Venus Flytrap from "WKRP in Cinncinnati"). He gave a lecture on African American filmmakers for Black History Month at Fort Lee High School. He was awesome. A real class act.

Another cool one was Ron Howard. I met him briefly about 7 years ago. I had gone to a test screening of "Inventing the Abbots", which I guess he produced because he was involved in the panel discussion after the movie was over. I was supposed to be in that discussion, too, but I was cut at the last minute. As I left the screening room after the movie, Ron Howard walked past me into the room I turned around and he saw me, smiled and waved and walked into the room. I was stunned, and I think I smiled and waved back, I don't remember.

On a much darker side, I've also met now infamous New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey as part of my reporter gig, last October when he signed an affordable housing bill in Fort Lee.

I met Ed Kranepool (former Mets player) when he was signing autographs at my local mall (I got his), and Jamie Thomas (skateboarder) in Florida, when my cousin told me he was doing a demo (demonstration). I got his autograph, and a picture with him.

I had the vast pleasure of meeting Ralph Nader the day before he announced his 2004 candidacy for the Presidency. He spoke to our organization, and then had a book signing. For the record, he would prefer Dennis Kucinich to any of the other Democrats who were running, as they have worked together numerous times in the past.

It really depends on what your definition of famous is.

I have meet:

A Medal of Honor winner.
Countless Soldiers with great stories.
My Relatives and Family. (Several of them were soldiers)

These people mean more than any movie star ever will. These people will remember my name. These people are heroes.

Thanks Indyologist and thehammer42. It means a lot to me. :)

It is hard to put what I feel in words, but I will try. When I was little I always wanted to meet famous movie stars like Harrison Ford. I finally relized I didn't have to go to Hollywood to meet someone famous, only the local American Legion or VFW. There is no way to thank our vetrans enough for what they have done. Especially the ones that are no longer with us. They made the ultimate sacrifice. :( I have felt this way for a long time, after I realized what kind of stuff They went through.

I had an Uncle that made 8 beach landings in the Pacific during WWII, 5 of which were heavily defended by Japanese. He lived to tell me about it and tell me what his Silver Star, and 3 Bronze Stars were for.

I also had another Uncle that was captured in the Phillipines and sent on the Bataan Death March. After this they sent him and the other POW's on 2 boats to the Japanes main land. There he went to work in a mine 2 miles out of Hiroshima (Where we dropped 1 of the Atomic Bombs.) Luckily, because he was in a mine, he was unaffected by the bomb.

My grandpa fought in both Korea and Vietnam. During Vietnam he was in MACVSOG, a special forces group. He would go behind enemy lines and sit on the Hochiman Trail calling in Air Strikes against the VC. He lived to tell about it but didn't talk much about it because it was classified.

These people and many others are my Heroes and I would rather spend a minute with them than an Hour with some hot shot movie star. Don't get me wrong, I like movies. But they are only actors and movies are only made up.

Anyways, I could go on and on but there is my 2 cents. Sorry mods for goin off topic.

Over and Out,

Wow, can't believe I forgot that. :(
My grandfather was in WWII, a radio technician who saw some battle, and he later became a firefighter; my other grandfather was in the Korean war. My dad is a policeman, retiring next year after about 28 years, and I know several people who served in the military

If I told you who I have met, I would have to kill you.:)

But have come across some minor actors and actresses. Usually when I am at Disneyland is when I see them from afar or we bump into each other...been known to happen.

I will say this though, George is a bit more down to earth than most people give him credit for.

I could make this a semantic arguement and suggest that famous people aren't heroes.

I don't see the line as being that blured. Heroes need a thread all their own.

I met Chuck Yeager once. Very nice, down-to-earth guy. He's definitely a hero (at least one of mine). Breaking the sound barrier, shooting down a German jet with his prop plane, also shooting down five Me-109s in one day, getting shot down and evading capture (with the help of the French underground).

I had the privliege to meet Guy Gruters and hear firsthand of his experiences as a POW in Vietnam. (I went to school with one of his sons.) Here's a quick summary:

Capt. Guy Gruters, USAF (ret), a graduate of the US Air Force Academy and former POW was shot down twice during the Vietnam War. After his second shootdown on December 20, 1967, he was captured and spent his next five years in POW camps, including the infamous Hanoi Hilton. There he cared for a fellow POW, Lance P. Sijan. Sijan had been inspirational in his resistance to his captors but was in very poor health from injuries suffered from the time he crashed through his captivity. After he was removed from the care of other POWs, he was reportedly taken to a hospital. He was never seen again and Vietnamese guards said he had died January 22, 1968. The story of Lance Sijan and those like Guy Gruters who helped is told in the book, "Into the Mouth of the Cat".

My point is most a lot of people like meeting famous people which is fine, but I would rather meet a hero. I think heroes should be famous, but except for a few like Audie Murphy, they are not famous.

As far as movie stars go, the girl from 'My Girl.' Anna Klumpsky or whatever. She went to some schools around here. Grace River Forest and Walther Lutheran Highschool. Like that counts for anything though. Haha. Has she been in anything since then or what?

I met a bunch of Bulls players but the only ones I really talked to were John Paxton for an hour or so and Bill Wennington who I got to talk to for a few minutes. Got both of their autographs. The rest I just had sign a hat or something and said 'thanks.'

I have met Tex Hill of the Flying Tigers. For those of you who don't know the flying tigers were a well known AVG (American Volunteer Group) stationed in China in WWII. They racked up many victories and sustained little, if any, loss of life. Their planes were painted in camo with the chinese star, shark mouths/eyes, and their emblem of a winged tiger jumping through a V for victory.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/roadshow/series/highlights/2005/omaha/img/flag_lg.jpg

I was at an Air Show at Willow Grove Air Force Base and saw him in one of the hangers. I was wearing my Flying tigers hat and it just so happens that he flew the plane with the same number as the one on my hat, number 48. He signed a picture and my hat and we had a short conversation.

Met Clive Barker once in the 80s... just as his book signing was closing down... He asked if I knew of a decent place to get a drink and he and I ended up hanging out for most of the evening... few pints... some gnosh... nice guy... horrible cigars... and I was offended... he never hit on me once....

Famous musicans... Bob Dylan... Garnet Rogers.... James Keelaghan... Stephen Fearing... Don Ross... Mary Chapin Carpenter... The guys in Great Big Sea... The boys in Barenaked Ladies (WAY before Gordon was ever released)

George Cluney wandered into a pub I was playing at a few years ago, but I didn't get much of a chance to chat with him... just sorta shook hands in passing, and he sent me up a pint and a shot.... Nice guy....

A year or so ago, while giggin at my 'local' Cathy Jones wandered in and sat right in front of me to listen... she was having a great time, but got chased out by cigarrette smoke... On her way out she shook my hand and gave me a heart-warming "great job kiddo" (Heh... Kiddo....)

Last X-mas time, I was standing in line to check out of a store in the mall, when I realised I was in line right a head of The Discovery Channels own Ivan Semeniuk... I sorta looked... did a double take.... and reached out my hand to him and said, "Mr Seminiuk? Thanks". He shook my hand and said, "Cool... you're welcome" and we parted ways...

Looking forward to december when I get to meet and perform for Karolyn Grimes... The woman who, as a very young lass, played Zuzu in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life"

Ive seen and met many celebs, including Harrison Ford. But the coolest by far was a hero of mine. I was flying out of DFW last week and bumped into a living legend. While I was getting some coffe, the guy standing behind me was R. Lee Ermey, from Full Metal Jacket/Mail Call. After nearly soiling myself, I struck up some small talk with him. Although I dont collect them, I bought his coffe as a bribe for an autograph, which he adressed to his favorite "maggot"(how awsome is that). I also got him to take a cameraphone pic with me.
