what happened to the whip?

I was watching LC again when I realized, when Indy whips across to his dad's room in the castle Brunwald he lets go of his whip.

how does he get it back? any ideas?

Seems like a continuity error.

In LC Indy whips his dad around his leg on the tank.
Salah comes to get indy's daddy and Indy tosses the whip away.

The tank goes of the cliff and Indy climbs up.
What do we see on his belt?
TADAAAAAA!!! Its magic.
The whip.

Okay, anyway, maybe he has a friend who sells/makes them and gets them free. As for the LC problem, maybe it took it off the cables but wasn't shown or it came off when he crashed through the windows.
