You can buy a repro from What Price Glory, http://www.whatpriceglory.com/mkviibag.html
If you want an original one, you should check out Soldier of Fortune. http://www.1944airborne.com/reenactors/index.htm Code: BE719 British WWII --> Equipment --> Field Equipment

I got mine from Soldier of Fortune in the UK a few weeks ago; unfortunately, they doubled the price, so they go for 20 pounds now. See link above - they ship SUPER fast! From the UK to Canada in two days!

Howdy! :whip:
First of all - Hi to everyone, because I am new here!
I'm also looking for that nice Indy bag and I think the one from www.1944airborne.com is just great!
I would really like to buy it, but I'm mot sure of the right color. It says there are 3 colors availabel: "W & G TAN", "M & G Green" and "H & suns green".
So, I'm not sure... maybe one of you guys can help me? That would be brilliant!
Many thanks in advance!
Greetz

PS: Sorry for my bad english... :o
I think that 71 euros for a MkVII is way too much. You can get them a lot cheaper from eBay.

<s>Hello: I do have a MV II bag in excellent condition which I brought from MBA costume but the bag is those with the black strip on the surface and I also need to keep the leather strap for myself, I can sell it for US$40.00 excluding postage or US$49.00 postpaid.</s>
You are not allowed to sell your stuff in here. Please use eBay. http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=6597

Soldier of Fortune quadrupled the price a week after I got mine - they realized what they had and what some people were willing to pay for it. ...unfortunately.

Have you tried Todds costumes? They have repro MkVII bags - actually the same kind as you get from WPG. They are a little dark to be screen acurate - I'm leaving mine outside in the sun to naturally bleach it out...

The sun should also kill any mould or musty funk it has, if it has any. Good call. Todd's will also have a screen accurate strap and buckle, won't it?
Well I heard that the Deluxe Strap or something like that is really good.

I have a mint, unissued MkVII and a brand new OD repro from Todd's costumes. Side by side, Todd's bag just needs a little lightening- but not by much- I think it's pretty much dead on.
Seriously, the repro from Todd's or WPG is perfect for your needs. If you want the bag for everyday use- go with this one, there's no need to daily use a real MkVII- I see them as being too precious. You can beat up a repro without having to damage a piece of history.
I went with the deluxe strap from Todd's as well. I just replaced the chicago screws on the back as they come in gold when they should be silver. Nice solid buckle on it though... :-)

I had a somewhat funky MK VI, which I took care of by washing it out in some warm water and baking soda. Baking soda is fantastic for removing odors.
In terms of an accurate and quality bag strap, I highly recommend www.texasactiongear.com. The strap is supple, comes in two lengths, has silver Chicago screws, accurate and solid buckle, and Texas ships very quickly. I have one of his straps on my MK VI and am totally pleased. Check out the testimonials for other comments from known COW denizens.

If you go with a Todd or WPG bag you will definitely want to upgrade the strap - the buckle's not bad, but the strap leaves some to be desired. I'd go with either Todd's deluxe or with the above mentioned texasactiongear - I actually bought Todd's deluxe buckle and added it to a strap I had custom made by a local saddle maker...

I am interested in purchasing an Indiana Jones Bag, however, I would rather have a vintage one, not a new one. I sometimes see the MK VI as oppose to the MK VII, and I was wondering if there are any major differences. I know that it is not the orginal, but how much of a difference exactly is there (besides the 2 rings on the sides of the bag which could easily be removed). Are the inisides the same? are the dimensions the same? I am looking for any feedback on the MK VI
I don't know anything about these bags, but I think that the MkVI has three vents and the MkVII has only two.
This is a MkVI:

which in your opinion would be a better buy, the replica of the MK VII for a MK VI with the leather strap alteration. (It is the MK VI that has 2 vents and the 2 rings on the side), thanks

Which deluxe strap is better for the MKVII bag, the todd's costume strap, or the texas action strap? they both look nice, but the texas action strap looks a little better. I havent seen either in person just the websites and i know a bunch of you have...

I have Todd's strap and two Keppler straps. When the guys mention above that the Texas strap is supple- that for me is a winner, the Keppler strap is supple but inaccurate (it needs those grooves). The Todd's strap is fairly tough feeling and the buckle I think is slightly (ever so slightly) too large- so I'd suggest the Texas strap, looks like it's the most accurate from what I've seen online. :)

The soft strap is better than the rougher ones.

So I should go with the Texas Action strap? (it sounds better on the website) and as far the grooves go, it says I can get it with grooves or without grooves, in the movies does the strap have grooves or not? what are the pros and cons of the grooves? i am lost,
Deadlock

I believe that there is some argument regarding whether or not there were grooves in the films' straps. If I remember correctly, some scenes you could see it, others you couldn't. I don't think that the grooves serve any purpose (other than screen-accuracy, if you subscribe to that view). I think that they give the strap a more finished look, but that's just me. :)
Neolithic

I think the grooves were there. If you take a look at the front cover of the 1981 Rolling Stone magazine with Ford on the front cover as Indy- you can very clearly see the grooves- so I'd go with a Texas Action Strap with the grooves. It looks better in my opinion. :)
It's a small detail, but if it's important to you I could post a screenshot. :)

I agree that it's in that pic there, Neo. I kind of have the feeling there were multiple straps - I forget the details, but I picked up some stuff on COW about minor differences picked up from screen grabs.
I still can't help thinking they recycled old rifle straps. I got a batch of HK rifle straps from a place online, and although the hardware on them was consistent, the leather varied in finish color - and some had those runner grooves, and some didn't.
I'd say pick what you like, I think both are screen-accurate...just to different scenes.

Hi does anyone know the quality of the bag sold on ebay?
I think it is quite a good offer.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Indiana-Jones-Mark-MK-VII-Gas-Mask-Bag-Green-Props-WWII_W0QQitemZ160111529353QQihZ006QQcategoryZ60361QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
But I am not really sure, and i don't have the money to get the original ones!
What is the right color, green or dark green?
Any help is deeply appreciated!!!!!

the bag seems quite good from the pics but it's hard to tell the quality of sewing. Also as far as I recall the original bag has double bottom but I have none to prove it.:( No comments on the synthetical leather strap...
To the color: the green one looks more worn-out but the dark green has more potencial to get there. I would go with the lighter dreen but it depends on you if you want an istant worn-out or to wear the bag out yourself.
The price seems to be quite reasonable. Have you however tried your local military shops? MMaybe you will find a close-enough for better price without waiting ;).
Anyway, let us know of your choice.

The vents should be in the bottom...
The "Disk" is missing off the right side...
"the original bag has double bottom"
Yes it does....
Not a replica I'd buy.
Not a replica I'd buy.
Ditto. There are online army shops you can buy completely mint MkVII's for like 30 euros. This one cost me exactly that, no more.

"There are online army shops you can buy completely mint MkVII's for like 30 euros."
Those are also reproductions, are they not?
(Not that there's anything wrong with a reproduction, as long as it's done well)
My bag is starting to wear after almost 3 years of constant wear.... I think my plan is to use it as a pattern to remake it, but in more sturdy materials... and maybe slightly bigger...
But I'm not interested in screen accuracy.
Todds Costumes are out...
TexasActionGear is gone...
WhatPriceGlory has original bags (They mostly look like crap) but are out of repros....
What other sources do you have VP??
This one is a 1941 H&Sons MkVII L from Endicotts Army Surplus in Exeter, UK.

Wow... that's gotta be the BEST looking original I've seen!
How much did it run ya?
Do they still have them?
Does this place have a web presence?
*Edit... here's their web site... http://www.endicotts.co.uk/index.php
Too bad it mostly sucks.....
It was £21.95 about a year ago, ordered it by emailing their IndyGear contact guy. I think they're running out a bit, but they still might have some unissued ones which aren't in top quality but still almost as good as new. This one looks like it's brand new.
