Not sure what level you're on as I haven't played the game in some time.
These links might help:

I'm on level 15, Infernal Machine..

but i can't for the life of me get him up there..
cheers anyway
Known bug.
Update the game! (ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/patches/pc/J3DUpdate1.2.exe)
I'm also stuck in the same place and found your message. When I try and install the update I get a message saying that its not necessary as its already updated. It won't install.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

I recall some problems at this level when I played through it. I believe the update did the trick.
What you may need to do is to back up your saved games to a separate folder away from where you installed the game. Then, uninstall the game and reboot.
Now, reinstall the game and run the update file. Once completed, restore the saved games to the game and attempt to proceed.
Good luck!
PS Isn't it wonderful that IM has saved games?? :)

No good to me anymore...
when i bought ET on XBox i said to my dad while he was on the PC that he could uninstall the ET Demo.... he also uninstalled IM by accident... git.. :)
so i'll just download a saved game from somewhere.. :)
Thanks. I'll have a bash over the weekend.

I got the three jewels, and I have to fight the final boss, but to do this I should arrive to the green door that it opens with the green jewel (at least, this is what I understand by the solutions in the net).
The problem is that I can't reach that damn door because it is on a lower floor and when I try to reach it I always die because of the height. I think that it should be there a beam to let u get down without dying, but there isn't any...I fear that this is one of the terrible bug that have ruined an otherwise great game...anyone can help?!?
You can use the god mode code :p.
But seriously, I don't know.

I was thinking the same...what's the god mode code in the n64 version??

In order to get to the door I stood backwards, facing the wall and rolled backwards and ended up surviving the fall.

You know, I've owned that game pretty much since the day it came out and I have never finished it. I have a different (and in my opinion more frustrating) problem. I made it all the way through the Aetherium to (what I assume is) the last boss monster. You have to get a mirror and let him fire at you. You use the mirror to reflect the shot back at him. Without fail, my N64 game will lock up on the third hit. Every time!

I did finish the PC version of the game...but that was about 3 years ago. I can't recall exactly now what it took to get through this problem.

My game has the same problem, Pier. It is a bug, and there is supposed to be a pillar you can "swim" down to get to the bottom. In my game, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. My advice is to just keep trying until the pillars are there. And everyone else, there is no god code for IM... at least not the N64 version.

"In order to get to the door I stood backwards, facing the wall and rolled backwards and ended up surviving the fall."
Hope it's not BS.
Anyway, thanx to all for the help.

er...how can I roll backward in the n64 game?!?
Patrick
07-21-2003, 10:40 AM
Roll backward? It's simple don't you have a roll button? Well you have to face the wall, then press the down button at the same time as you press the roll button. If you can't do that then try holding on to the edge of the well edge and let go. I played it on the computer though so I don't know. Could you get down to the other doors? Then try going to that beam and run to the other door. Hope this helps!

I know how to fix it, cuz I use to have the exact same prob with my N64 IM. You just have to play that level right when you turn on your system. If you've been playing IM on your 63 for awhile, things, like the music, will mess up. The music has a lot of bugs in it. LOTS!!!!
Patrick
07-21-2003, 12:21 PM
Does that help? Or not... I played on the computer...with my computer... The controls were perfect for IM why not for ET?
Pier 1981
07-21-2003, 01:56 PM
Kumba, I always play that level when I turn on my console, but that damn beam doesn't appear...do u mean that I should restart the level from the beginning?!? That sucks...=(

07-22-2003, 01:01 AM
Yeah, you have to; if you save it when the those "pillars" are screwed up, they will stay screwed up. Blame those lazy bastards at Factor 5! They did a poor job of testing that game. If you think the music sounds bad in IM, it's not, it's just that there are all those bugs in the system. Now trust me, you start that Aetherium level from the beginning when you turn on your console, and those pillars will be there. Oh, and make sure your whip is charged!
Please can anybody help.ive had the same problems on this level,Infernal Machine as other people have had.Indy will not jump up into the passageway above him.the patch will not work, and to make things worse,by trying numbers of solutions,i have wiped all my saves off-yes i know,i thought i had backed them up.can anybody send me a save to the start of level 15-the infernal machine,or as near as.many thanks rich.Btw,i am playing it on the p.c.

what are you playing on? computer? n64? ps?
Sorry, took some time until I found your post :)
I have a bunch of savegames available at:
ftp://ftp.soulianis.com/archive/indy/
In the "start" subdirectory you find a start file for level #15. Beware, however, that you will most probably encounter more problem during this level. So there is another subdirectory named "15_MACHINE" which has five savegames which should help to overcome those.
Good luck!

 I have my currently favorite Indiana Jones game for Windows XP on my Dad's Dell computer and the game works great, I just can't get a Logitech gamepad to work right. Is there a place that I have to download a profile for it or what? I can assign the buttons in the Controls Options menu fine, but can't assign the analog joysticks or the cross pad. Is there a place to find something to fix this minor prob? Lol, I can't get over those smilies, they are the best that I have ever seen. Is there anyway I can use those in my email? Also, I stated in another post that I think it would spectacular to see the Indiana Jones Trilogy somehow created using the same game engine as Emperor's Tomb. I am a tech retard as so many are, and how to improve a BIT of that this year. Lol (Bit, the name of the little dude in the first Tron movie, and Byte, name of the one in Tron 2.0, which I also enjoy playing) Anyway, as I am a Catholic+Christian I ask that Our Lord will always abundantly bless all of the great work of the LucasArts and LucasGames companies that are such a blessing to edutainment as Mr. Lucas has sometimes called it. I hope he and Mr. Spielberg will be able this year to release the Young Indiana Jones adventures on DVD, which I hope to see, as I am a passionate artifex that loves cultural anthropolgy. Cheers for the New Years my friends! :D

What game are you trying to play? Infernal Machine?
Eric1975
01-07-2005, 02:28 PM
:whip: Yep. That would be it. I have tried to install this game on Win Xp after downloading Service Pack 1 and (KB) Article 327979 and I don't know where these downloaded files are supposed to moved to. I have Service Pack 2 installed and tried to install 1 and the computer started giving me a hard time, so I just gave up on it yesterday. Can't you have both service packs installed along with the Article file? argh...Like I said I am certainly not a tech wizard in any sense of the word. Thanks for any help you can provide. Eric1975
I just tried my Thrustmaster pad. It works fine. I chose something like default 2-axis 8-button pad and Enable Joystick/Pad.

What you may want to do is go to the IM folder (c:\program files\lucasarts\infernal machine ... or whatever it is) and right click on the .exe file. Click properties from the list. Then under the compatibility tab, choose the option to run the game in Windows 98 mode.
There may be some glitches every now an again, but that is the only way I've gotten it to work.

Hi there! :)
This is my 1st time post... I really hope someone out there can help me!
I've been STUCK in neverland for 1 whole week in King Sol's Mines - in the area of the Pool where you go in to swim in tunnel where the crates are and go up where the Sarcophaguses are and there are ledges to go up to a Gold Door.
The problem is that when I swim up and jump on the lowest pillar, there is no entrance in the walls to be able to jump from one pillar to the other to reach the Gold Door up there! The walls are completely SOLID!!! I've tried & tried many times and even going back some saved games in the level to restart my actions but nothing works. I noticed also, that when I jump the ledge where some spiders are to get the Red gem, one section after where you crawl under and a couple of spiders are there - one of the spiders is 'stuck' in the floor and Indy doesn't even aim the gun to kill it! I needed to blast it with a grenade to kill it and then proceed to go back to mine cart...
I really don't know what's wrong???
I have a XP OS, 512 MB, 80GB and never had problems with games before. Could it be that the CD is faulty?? Or is it something else??
I wish I could get from someone a saved game for this level if I can't continue at all because of this glitch!!!
PLEASE HELP ASAP!

There's your problem right there. Windows XP does not support Infernal Machine, there is a work around. First download any patches from LucasArts (http://support.lucasarts.com). Second, run the game in Windows 98 mode. To do that, follow these steps:
1. Go to c:\program files\lucasarts\indiana jones and the infernal machine (or whatever directory it was installed to)
2. Right click on the game's .exe file (ijim.exe if I recall)
3. Select "Properties" from the list
4. Click on the Compatibility tab
5. Check the box that says "Run this program..."
6. Choose Windows 98 from the list.
While it won't fix all the problems, it should fix 99% of them.

Welcome, Ruffled2.
Moved to Indy Video Games. If you can't proceed, then here's a savegame for the next level.
Hi.
I think I know what you're talking about... have you seen the cinematic where Indy escapes the commie bazooka trap with his mine cart? If not, then go back to the cart shack, set the rails so that you can go one merry-go-round past all the switches (straight from switches #1, #2 and #3)... and then try again.
<small>Also, the spider you mentioned has been "standing on four legs" since the very first version of the game and never been fixed. Easiest way to finish it is to slash it with a machete.</small>

As the Infernal Machine for Game Box Color was missing in my collection, I hunted for and finally found one on eBay. It is a nice little game, however different from the Infernal Machine PC version which I know very good BTW.
Until I reached the Shambala level, I managed to gain maximum IQ score so far. But now I am stuck...
Anyone here who knows Infernal Machine for GBC? If so, can you help?
In Shambala, when you reach the 'bell ringer' statue you have to climb down until you reach the clockface. There, you climb down once more to put the cog wheel in place.
Back at the clockface, a timed sequence begins where you have to climb up to activate the 'bell ringer'. This is where I get stuck: On the way back to the 'bell ringer', a ledge is too high so that I cannot go further. The way I go (IMO the only way to go) is as follows: (1) From the clockface into the left door -> leading to the right door, (2) from the right door jumping the ladder and climbing up, (3) from the top of the ladder into the next door -> leding to the right door one level below, then (4) stuck: cannot reach the left door because the ledge is too high.
Thanks for your help and patience!
Ok, I could solve it
The ledge in question could in fact be jumped, but only from a specific spot, which was not obvious (at least not for me ;) ).

I'm not new to this style of forums ( joined a Stargate forum and a civilization forum) but as you will see from the number of posts, to this site, I am a nube. After playing so many games that are all about the reflexes and none about the mind, I decided to play my Nintendo 64 game and I got stuck.
I am at the Volcano. I am at the part with a double gate and I have pressed the button to open gate #1. I have read two walkthroughs from gamespot.com and both of them said that I needed to get on the Island in the water. I am pretty sure that he is reffering to the stony stucture containing an incline (assisted by a staircase) and two torches at the top.
EDIT: I just realized this could be a little hard to visualize. The rooms are filled with water. The stony structure is the island and it is on the west side of the room. The double gate is on the north side and the entrance is on the south side. There is a Funeral barge in a seperate area that is connected to the south west side of the room.
However, it's too high up. You can't climb up it. I've tried jumping from both sides and it's too far. I've tried pulling out my whip and it doesn't lock on to anything.
Can someone please help me. I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: Also, I don't cheat. I don't know the people of this website but I know there are lots of cheaters out there. I don't use them unless I've beat the game and I just want to mess around but I havn't beat the game and I don't want to mess around. I want to beat the game. Thanks again to anyone who responds!!

If God's out there, he's with me cuz I just figured it out. I re-read the second walkthrough and realized it said to swim to the far corner of the room, get out of the water , then jump to the island. It's sounded like there was a second platform and since I never even considered that to be a possibility, I overlooked it.

After reading on this very forum that Infernal Machine works well on XP if you just have WMP on in the background, I dug this fantastic old game up. However, I'm having trouble with the level Shambala Sanctuary. I'll be more specific. When I'm using some kind of an elevator, I find a door, but I need the key. The keyhole looks like a cross, so when I go back to the room where there is a wooden cross in an alcove, I try to pick it up, but Indy doesn't react. What's wrong? Is it a bug? Or maybe it's not the key I'm looking for? I've tried dozens of walkthroughs to no avail. Could someone please help?
Thankfull for replies.
It's hard to say from your description if you're attempting to pick up a simple ornament and not the real deal or if it's really some kind of odd incompatibility bug.
On another note, did you install the 1.2 patch while playing this level and then loaded up an old savegame? Because that is known to cause Indy not picking the damn thing up.
If you have any saves from the previous level I recommend trying it again from there.
montana
04-03-2007, 04:16 AM
Thanks for the reply Finn. No, I didn't install a patch, and I don't have a savegame from a previous level. To bad. Maybe you know a link where I can download a savegame from the previous level with the river (the end, so I don't have to do it again?
For starters, if you don't have the patch, I recommend installing it warmly. Actually, it's a must. Solves many issues with the game.
ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/patches/pc/J3DUpdate1.2.exe
And once you have it... here is a Shambala Sanctuary level start save, compatible with the 1.2 version.

Have fun.

Hmm, actually, I solved this problem by downloading a savegame from the previous level, so now Indy can pick up the Great Monestary Seal. However, you've confused me with this 1.2 patch. If I install it now, will it affect my savegame in any way?
You said:
On another note, did you install the 1.2 patch while playing this level and then loaded up an old savegame? Because that is known to cause Indy not picking the damn thing up.
Maybe I should wait with installing this patch until I finish the Shambala level?
If you already have the seal, I guess it's okay to try and install the patch and continue playing from your latest save. Or finish the level, save near the end and then install.
You may still have to install the patch before finishing Shambala, as one of the most annoying bugs in the game known as the "Ice Monster bug" (which crashes the game when you start fighting the boss) is present at 1.0.
So I honestly recommend running the patch ASAP, then starting from whichever save you feel comfortable with, but I'd prefer something from the previous level (or the one I posted).
Shambala has lots of weird bugs, I've run into at least four. Once the camera pulled back up after the intro scene, then Indy couldn't pick up the Monastery Seal, then the Ice Monster didn't jump down and finally after I killed it the ice block didn't crack.

Does anybody no of a way to lighten up my game (Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine). It's particularly dark in Shambala and also Palawan Lagoon, where I can't see athing inside the ship. I have tried changing Display settings and computers monitor settings but it has changed nothing. I thought it might be because I was playing it on xp but not sure? Anybody else encountered this problem? Thanks for help.
Use the lighter.
Or if you're underwater pump up the monitor brightness.

"The monitor brightness doesnt get any brighter."
As you've said twice now....
My 0.02... try a 3rd party display modification program.... Something that will allow you to modify the gamma of your monitor.
Something like this

But for your specific chipset.

All,
I'm running Infernal Machine on Vista. The first two levels played great, now when loading the 3rd level, I get the following error:
Assert Handler
sithPuppet.c(3935): strlen(pKeyframe->aName) > 0
Here's what I've done to try to remedy the situation:
Compatibility Mode to Win98-- game won't even launch
I've tried the following with no changes:
Avoided buying items between levels
Patched to what appears to be version 1.2
Changed display settings to several different lower options
Downloaded different save game files. Levels 1 and 2 still work, but 3 and 4 won't go.
Ran with windows media player open (it's version 11)
Disabled my wingman controller.
Any thoughts on what I should try next? It looks like other folks have posted to the net with similar problems (I googled assert handler and "infernal machine") but nobody seems to take it too seriously.

Don't fire the heavy weaponry. Betcha it's the same thing that made the game crash in XP. Stick to the revolver.
Ah, the bugs while running the Infernal Machine under Windows XP or newer. Numerous they are. And persistent. (If you're interested in useless tidbits of info, that sith babble refers to the old Jedi Knight engine IM is built on.)
AssertHandler message hints a disc drive -based problem. The crash occured during a loading screen to Tian Shan (the "red line" secquence), not actual gameplay, am I correct? It appears the program has trouble checking your disc. Another problem could be Windows Media 11, try downgrading to version 9 or 10 (if it just is possible with Vista, can't recall if it was or not).
So, for starters... obtain a non-copy protected game executive and downgrade down to an earlier WM player version and see if it works. If it doesn't... well, get back here and we'll scratch our heads some more.

Just for fun, I tried loading some of the save-game files I had downloaded.
I was able to load the Peru level and fire the rocket launcher-- no issues there.
Finn, you're right, it's while loading. I am going to try your suggestions soon, and I might send you a private message or two.
I wonder if I could install multiple versions of media player....
I've also thought of installing the game on my xp laptop to see if I can play the bugged levels from there...

I've had a lot of glitches playing Infernal Machine on Windows XP---most notably the heavy weaponry glitch. Sticking to revolver, .45 or auto-pistol will swerve around this glitch, and also, saving often is highly recommended. I've had a couple of times where Indy got stuck in a wall or kept on sliding. Hit reload and cross your fingers. I haven't found a working link to the update patch that resolves the XP problems, so if anyone has a link to said patch, that would be greatly appreciated.

Does this game work on Vista? I've had it for about 7 years, when they first released it as a LucasArts classic. It worked on 98, played half of the Canyonlands on PC, and doesnt seem to load on Vista.
I'm not sure about the 2 disc thing. It never reminds me to put disc 2 in and it installed quite quickly.

Did you do the Full install? Have you tried Compatibility mode (rarely works, but always worth a try)?
I've ran the game on both XP and Vista. XP was fine, Vista occasionally has some graphical corruption in the top left corner but only about one in ten times - reloading always gets rid of it. Otherwise no problems, playing the game is fine.

I'll try the full install, thanks. So on full install, I'm guessing it then asks for disc 2? I havent installed this in AGES. :D Great game though - I think I originally got as far as the water-TOD-like level.

Is anyone familiar with my glitch? This really sucks :( Just when I was enjoying the game, this dumb glitch comes up...

I'm playing this great game on my computer and it looks like I've come across a glitch.
Before the Babylon chapter ends, I have to move a block to activate the elevator but it just doesn't move
I have a nasty feeling I've encountered this glitch before. There are two memorable glitches in Infernal Machine (memorable because they're extremely irritating). They are solved the same way.
One is on the Nub's Tomb level, where you have to raise a giant statue underwater to form a walkway - but if you swim down and 'use' the statue, it will disable the switch that actually raises it. This happens all the time, so LucasArts have it in their Troubleshooting section.
The other glitch has happened to me before, but only happens rarely (thankfully). Basically the block has got "stuck" on the lift.
Both glitches are solved in the same, unfortunate, way - you have to play the level again from the start. :( It's not so bad with Babylon, but Nub's Tomb is incredibly long and difficult!
Alternatively if you really, really cannot be bothered I'll email you a savegame for the next level. You're at the end of the Babylon level, you'll just miss a short cutscene where Indy tells Turner where he's going next. PM me with your email and I'll send you it.
So on full install, I'm guessing it then asks for disc 2? I havent installed this in AGES. I will ask for Disc 2 in the Install, yes. After that you'll only need Disc 1 to play the game. I've only ever Full installed the game on both XP and Vista and it installed and ran fine.

Does anybody know where I can find this game on N64 for a reasonable price, besides ebay?
Online video game stores and the like?

One more qick question:
I found a good walkthrough for this game (Sinjin's, I believe it's mentioned early on in this thread), but it's for the PC version. Can it be used for the N64 version as well, or are there any big differences between the two?

Nothing that needs mentioning. The 64's only differences are better lighting, better controls and a menu system for selecting levels. The game itself isn't changed.
