I've thought about doing it, but with work and life in general (plus a different writing project) I'm not sure if I have the time. Besides, I doubt the story I want to do would qualify.

It's my first real attempt at Indy fiction, it is a short stroy. If i had time i would write a novel. Perhaps after the contest I will turn it into a novel.

I don't get it, this contest seems like a great idea. Here's my problem with it, the categories.

please correct me if I'm wrong. To my understanding, a person can write a poem and another person could write the first two chapters of a novel and go for the same prize.

So I could be spending a lot of time writing out the novelization and lose to a person who wrote a short poem.

Sorry but that just doesn't make any sense to me.

Ive got quite a issue with that my self.
One thing that has gotten my nuts about is the script section. Ive spent hours on end doing research and brainstorming for my indiana jones scrip. Ive been working on it for a year now and only have 10 pages. There a lot more work involved with that than with a 17 line potery paper. These sections do just not match up. look here. There rules and guidelines are horrible.

Poetry: Any form of 17 lines or longer. (there could be 1 word per line!!!)

Short Story: Minimum of 1,500 words. (that would be this article plus 2 more paragraphs http://thefedorachronicles.com/Columns/wolff.html to make that many words or 3 & 4/16 of a page)

Novelization: Submit first two chapters and complete synopsis, and prologue,

if any. Submission limited to 45 pages and no fewer than 10. (fewer that 10?)

Script: One, two, or three acts. Submit 30-50 consecutive pages and
complete synopsis. (Why is this 30 at minium!, script writing is extremely diffucult)

Maybe you should have though about this before you posted it.
Adam

I think you lads are looking at this the wrong way.

Instead of the schoolish word-counting perspective, ask yourself: How many words (or pages) do I need to captivate my audience? To me, it would probably take MORE rather than less. So my estimation of the difficulty level is totally the opposite from yours. I think the poem would be the hardest. You think you could write a 17 line poem that is as captivating as the original Raiders script? Go right ahead.

True, I saw the 'Poetry' category in the rules and said that's it -- game over, no way does anyone stand a chance against the fearsome poetic talent assembled here. Hence me posting my puny effort on the board at large rather than antying up and entering.

lumoIndy

I have to say those poems are genius, but that still doesn't really answer my initial question.

this has nothing to do with how many words your able to put on a page. I just think it isn't fare for a person to spend months on a script and be beaten out by a poem.

it should be individual prizes for each category. Now I know that would be hard to do, so why not just focus on one category each contest instead of all of it at once.

it would be more fun that way, each new contest presents a new challenge

N/P;). I decided to step down from being staff because between work and school I didn't have enough time to contribute on a regular basis. I am still a contributor from time to time. Therefore the rules allow me to enter. But again, I'm not sure if my idea qualifies...or if I could write a good enough story in such a short time.

And the other 16 submittees don't count.

Mr. Brody is taking a different route to sharing his fan fiction...

I’m throwing out the ‘Red-Line’ concept now because there are any number of other ‘Red-Line’ journeys set in the films that could serve as a basis for an adventure-within-an-adventure fan fiction. I have no interest in the contest and this project will certainly only be completed after the deadline for any contest.

I understand and respect that, but; with Lucas and those jokers working ont he Indy IV script, I think anyone with as much passion and talent as Joe has should be seen as much as possible, lets face it, He must spend a lot of time at home writtting this stuff, and coudl probably use some exposure to the people who be.

Well that being said, keep it up Joe, waiting for your next installment!

Trust me I don't doubt it, Indy fans are not like stars wars fans, but more like Disney dweebs, they are fanitcal, but buy stock, if you know what i mean. People in biz are not follish enough to ignore a site like this, this is not about guys making their Honda's look like A-wings, but about caring for a truly unique story and hero. Not that I know anything about the biz . . .

While we wait for the true revelation of Indy 4, I've decided to take matters into my own hands...

Drawing upon the knowledge and creativity of the brilliant minds here at the Raven (special thanks to Pale Horse and Joe Brody), I am constructing my own rendition of Indy 4: a screenplay that I hope will compete with the very best of the Indy scripts thus far. The first 50 pages were submitted for the contest, the rest is being finished. For those who want Indy to return to his Raiders roots in Indy 4, I hope that you will appreciate my vision.

A darker vision...

No. Not this time. I entertained the idea of Esoteric Indy Poetry, but then retracted that thought, as it felt to forced.

From a screenwriting point of view, there are two compelling stories that have been discussed on this board. I just don't know how much I should break off of my other projects to commit to a 6-8 week writing schedule. While I know it would be well received, I feel too stretched with that other thing...

"perhaps even magical stones
