The MP-40 issue

I've noticed that eveyone makes a big deal about how the nazis use MP-40s even though it was made in 1940, before the movies take place, but an extremely similiar looking weapon was invnted in 1938, around the time of the movies.

There were MP40s in Raiders and it is set in 1936. Indy uses a bazooka which was invented in WWII.
