View Full Version : Indy 4 Was My Idea To Harrison - I Swear To God!!
sterlingmichael

I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THIS IS ALL TRUE!! :whip:
WELL IT'S BEEN 11 YEARS - 11 YEARS SINCE I MET HARRISON FORD AT THE CAST PARTY OF "THE FUGITIVE" AND SPOKE WITH HIM AND ASKED HIM IF WOULD BE INTERESTED IN DOING ANOTHER INDIANA JONES. I CAN DESCRIBE IN GREAT DETAIL THE ENTIRE WONDERFUL NIGHT.
(I HAD BEEN WORKING ON A REALLY COOL PREMISE WHERE THE STORY PICKS UP 25-50 YEARS AFTER THE LAST CRUSADE AND INDIE AND HIS FATHER HAVE BARELY AGED DUE TO THE "WATER" FROM THE HOLY GRAIL CUP.)
I WON'T GO BEYOND THAT, SUFFICE IT TO SAY THAT AS I SAW HARRISON STANDING THERE THAT BEFORE I WROTE ANOTHER PAGE, (ALREADY HAS 60+ AT THE TIME) THAT IT MIGHT BRE A VERY GOOD IDEA TO SEE IF HE WOULD EVEN BE INTERESTED IN ANOTHER SEQUEL. :)
I FELT ABOUT 2 INCHES TALL FROM MY SIX FEET TALL FRAME WHEN HE SAID "WELL THEY CALLED IT "THE LAST CRUSADE" FOR A REASON. :o  :o
AFTER PICKING MYSELF UP FROM THE PROVERBIAL FLOOR I FOUND MYSELF ASKING HARRISON HOW MANY GOOD SCRIPTS, REALLY GOOD SCRIPTS THAT HE GETS AND HE SAID "ALMOST NONE" AND I TOLD HIM OF MY DESIRE TO FLUSH OUT THE INDIE CHARACTER A BIT MORE AND MAKE HIM A LITTLE MORE VULNERABLE BUT HARDER EDGED FROM SEVERAL LOSSES AND REGRETS THAT HE EXPERIENCES AND TO ALSO MAKE INDIE A BIT MORE SPIRITUAL - NOT IN THE RELGIOUS SENSE - BUT MORE IN TUNE WITH A GREATER COSMIC SOURCE THAT HE EXPERIENCES IN THE FIRST AND THIRD MOVIES. ;)
I SWEAR THAT THIS IS ALL TRUE!!! HARRSION THEN LOOKED AT ME IN AN ODD WAY AND SAID "I SUPPOSE IF THERE WAS A REALLY GREAT STORY THAT WAS COMPELLING ENOUGH - WHY NOT?"
HE THEN ENCOURAGED ME TO WRITE THE STORY AND SUBMIT IT, SAYING THAT IF YOU CAN TELL A GREAT STORY YOU CAN GET IT MADE. :D
I WAS ON CLOUD NINE FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS. I TOLD MY CO-WORKERS AT UNIVERSAL CITYWALK RESTAURANT "GLADSTONES" WHAT HAPPENED WITH HARRISON AND THEY KIND OF LAUGHED ME OFF UNTIL A FEW WEEKS LATER SOMEONE CAME RUNNING INTO THE RESTAURANT WITH A DAILY VARIETY THAT HIGHLIGHTED STEVEN, GEORGE AND HARRISON SIGNING ON FOR THE, THEN THOUGHT IMPOSSIBLE - INDIANA PART 4 - I WAS TOTALLY STOKED AND VALIDATED AND WORKED 8-12 HOURS A DAY ALL SUMMER ON THE SCRIPT IN BETWEEN MY TWO JOBS AT UNIVERSAL. :p
I CONTACTED AND REMAINED IN CONTACT WITH HARRISON'S MANAGER AT THE TIME AND FOR OVER 30 YEARS, PATRICIA MCQUEENY AND SHE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND NICE AND THEN I GOT A GREAT DOSE OF REALITY ---
NEITHER DREAMWORKS NOR LUCASFILMS ACCEPTED UNSOLCITED SCRIPTS.
I COULD GO ON TO TELL YOU HOW I DROVE TO SKYWALKER RANCH FROM L.A. AND HOW I ACTUALLY FOUND THE PLACE COMPLETELY ON INTUITION (I COULD DO A MOVIE ABOUT THIS WHOLE SCENARIO,) AND USED THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS (THE ADRESS WAS LIKE AND OMEN TO ME TOO! A REPEAT OF THE LAST TWO NUMBERS OF MY YEAR OF BIRTH)
AND HOW I WENT TO STEVEN'S MOM'S RESTAURANT AND HAD DINNER AND SPOKE WITH HER AND TWO DAYS LATER SNUCK THE SCRIPT INTO A GIFT BAG WITH A COOKBOOK FOR HER, TELLING HER HOW I ACTUALLY MET STEVEN AT A FUNDRAISER FOR DIANE FEINSTEIN AND HOOKED HIM UP AT PRESIDENT CLINTON'S TABLE WHEN HE AND KATE CAPSHAW DIDN'T HAVE A RESERVED SEAT - (GOT A REALLY NICE CALL FROM STEVEN'S HEAD OF SECURITY, SAID HE WAS SENDING THE SCRIPT BACK BUT NEVER GOT IT).
BUT THE POINT IS - I'VE PRAYED AND BLESSED EACH AND EVERY SCREENWRITER WHO HAS BEEN HIRED - TO BE VERY BLESSED AND GIVEN BETTER OPPORTUNITIES THAN INDIE 4 AND THAT I WOULD EVENTUALLY GET MY SCREENPLAY OF INDIE 4&5 - (TOO BIG FOR ONE MOVIE FOR A BIG GRAND FINALE TO INDIE) PRODUCED. :D
TO MY AMAZEMENT, M. KNIGHT SHAMALYAN AND FRANK DARBONT(WHOM I'VE MET AND HIGHLY RESPECT) HAVE HAD THEIR VERSIONS TURNED DOWN.
GUYS I'M NOT EVEN SURE WHY I'M POSTING THIS OTHER THAN - TO PERHAPS ENCOURAGE MYSELF AND MAYBE EVEN GET SOME ENCOURAGEMENT FROM A FEW OF YOU TO FINALIZE MY SCRIPT ONE MORE TIME AND GET MY VOICE AND STORY HEARD. ;)
I'M EVEN WILLING TO GIVE THE SCRIPT TO THEM FOR FREE - ON THE CONDITION THAT IF THEY USE IT, THAT I BE HIRED AS THE WRITER, GIVEN SCREENWRITING CREDIT AND AT LEAST A SMALL ACTING PART IN THE FILM. I WELCOME ANY "POSITIVE" THOUGHTS AND "CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUES."
THE STORY THAT I HAVE IS A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS AND TAKES INDIANA TO THE DEPTHS OF HIS SOUL, HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO THE BRINK OF CATASTROPHE AND BEYOND AND CANNOT BE TOLD IN ONE MOVIE BUT 2 (4&5) SHOT BACK TO BACK.
IF WE JUST SEE ANOTHER STORY OF INDY WITH A TYPICAL THEME - EVEN WITH SOME MYSTICAL ELEMENTS AS THE PAST, THEN WHAT'S THE POINT - UNLESS THERE IS AN AWESOME AND COMPELLING STORY FOR INDY AND CREW AND I BELEIVE THAT I'VE GOT THE RIGHT TICKET AND HAVE CASUALLY TOLD A FEW PEOPLE (STUDENTS AT UCLA MOSTLY) MY PREMISE AND SOME OF THE ELEMENTS THAT I WAS INSPIRED FROM HARRY POTTER'S QUIDITCH MATCH (MY GAME IS VISUALLY STUNNING AND AMAZINGLY MIND KINETIC.) THEY THOUGHT MY OUTLINE (CAN'T WRITE IT ALL HERE) WAS AWSOME AND I THINK IT AT LEAST DESERVES A SHOT!! LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS!
PLEASE - ONLY "CONSTRUCTIVE" FEEDBACK FROM "GOOD INDY FANS"

Sterling, welcome to The Raven.
Did you get a photograph of Harrison or an autograph, and also is your story on the internet?
By the way 'Indy' is spelt with a 'y' and not a 'ie' at the end. ;)

While pitching a project is important to the right people, I don't know how comfortable I feel about using someones mother as a means to an end. Register you script with the WGA, find a reputable agent who can solicit your material to the right people, and let the work stand alone.
It is my opinion that many great scripts go unrecognized because people use tactics like driving to a persons house to sneak a screenplay into the mailbox when no one is looking.
A good script will generate the interest it needs to succeed. Use the proper channels and doors will open for you.
EDIT: (here is some constructive criticism, to help your stay at the Raven)
Good messages on message boards, like good screenplays, will be read more readily and be accepted more often, than ones WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS.

I think the chance there will ever be a 4th movie is kind of small.... let alone them making a 4th AND a 5th movie...

Well, if you publicly post it here, for the most part, if lightning struck, you would be given credit. I say post it here so we can judge if it's truly the end-all-be-all Indy sequel.
No, really. I'm intrigued, and would consider it a pleasure to give my feedback.

Anyone who woudl ever approach Harrison about (and sorry to say it here) Han Solo or Indy, really should have their heads checked, he is not a guyt hat likes to chat about making movies, really. Talk about skiing, martinis's, wine, anything but his chacters, and never, never pitch him ideas ... really people

How do YOU know Mr. Ford doesn't like to talk about movies and would rather talk about wine and skiing and other stuff? From what I've read about him, he likes to talk film. I'm sure he doesn't talk it to death, but he doesn't begrudge his job as an actor. Sounds more to me like he doesn't like the "inconveniences" of fame. Do you know him or something that you would say this? :(

MR. STERLINGWHOEVERYOUARE:
I would like to see a few pages of your ideas posted here. I would read them with great interest. I do believe that you may have, in fact, met Harrison Ford-- hey, stranger things have happened to people. If you work in the movie industry and you have the right "connections" you can meet just about anyone, I'd bet. I seriously doubt that 2 Indy movies would be made back-to-back, however.
You have to forgive us if we seem skeptical.
#1 We don't know you-- and there are a LOT of wierdos surfing the web.
#2 You have NO PROOF of any of these claims.
#3 We still haven't seen any evidence of this script you have.
#4 We've had other "experts" with "inside news" who posted their bull once, then never returned.
Still, all in all, welcome to the Raven, where you'll find molars in the peanut bowl-- and the bodies of bullshi**ers slowly hardening in the snow banks outside. :dead: :whip: ;)

Mr Sterling, I'm not saying you've made the whole thing up, but there is nothing worse than somebody who posts a story like that on a messageboard and doesn't return.
I, like most people here are very interested in reading some of your story/screenplay.
Like I have said before, a picture or an autograph would be great to see (if you have them). :D

Indywhatsyourface,
I wish to god I knew Harrison Ford, better, but in the few conversations i have been lucky enouogh to have with him, really he is not into talking about work, sure he will talk about movies, he is a very polite man, very, but he he has a life outside of Han Solo or Indy (probably more of a life than most of us,) and he does the handshake-smile-sign-move on thing like anyone else, but I woudl not suggest chatting about Indy or the future of the sereis with him until he brings it up.
Are you the stalking type?

I have met hundreds of stars and never ask them for their autograph - that gets you fired! I worked for B.B. King for a year at Universal Citywalk and he gave me a signed hat that I gave to a kid.
I have nothing to prove to anyone. I know what I have said is the truth and I can look Harrison Ford in the eye and smile and remind him of our conversation and he can ask his manager Patrcia McQueeny about me.
I think that the reason that I signed up here at Raven and wrote what I did at 3 in the morning is that is the only time when I was free of my inhibitions and was seeking some support and am very very passionate and worked literally hundreds of hours with my story and enjoyed the process of writing.
I could write a book on all of the cirumstances and events surrounding the writing of the script. I am blessed and my life is truly a journey and I truly wish to help millions of people and inspire the "Indy" in each and every one of them.

I found Harrison to be a complete gentleman and was so surprised that he spoke with me first. I actually tried to avoid talkiing with him the night that I met him. I was afraid that I would do or say something stupid and he kept calling me over to his dinner table (I was a captain of the event for Spagos catering) and he was very polite and engaging and made it very easy to talk with. I think over the years he has dealt with so many people, (as have I in a different veign) that he, like Steven Speilberg, have become, rightfully so, a bit paranoid in dealing with the public.

Please tell me about Harrison. Are his eyes really hazel? Is he really 6' tall? Was he happy to answer any questions you asked him?
Forgive my slight skeptisism. You are an extremely lucky person to have met these people. And B.B. King as well.

The discussion in this thread shows that members of The Raven Message Board are a diverse and international community. However, it appears that the discussion has strayed from the original topic or does not remain Indiana Jones related. It is important to stay on topic and within the Indiana Jones genre, so as to prevent confusion among those participating in the discussion or visiting this site for the first time. This topic is moderated and future off-topic discussion could lead to the unfortunate closing of this thread.

This member, said he gave the idea to Indy 4 be made at once, well, the way he put that seems at first that is only due to his talk to Harrison that was possible, well, I think he contributed a bit to it, but not to the whole process, otherwise the script would be written by him, and it wasn't...
Anyways, I don't think he wanted to be arrogant, he asked just for us to be nice, he wanted to share that experience, cause he somehow had a great experience by talking to Harrison.

Hey, how you calling a loser? frickin' cross dressin avater . . .
C'mon now, people, let's be decent. It's okay to doubt someone and share some genuine misgivings and disagreements, but let's be civil about how we treat each other and, especially, guests.
Belloq to Indy (who wants to rough him up): Come, sit down before you fall down. Surely we can behave like civilized people...

Hi folks,
If you think that I am saying that ALL of the details to Indy IV were mine? That is delusional! I am not bitter about anything at all. Certainly don't blame Harrison nor George nor Steven - for what?? All that I did in some small way was to "spark" Harrision into considering doing Indy again - that's it!
We live in a world where we are ALL connected through the Universal Mind as I call it - George calls it "The Force" but in different definition. People who live in totally kdifferent countries show up at the patent office the same week, sometime the same day (it's been recorded) with the same Idea.
Therefore I simply tapped into the obvious - Fans wanted an Indy IV - Harrison wasn't considering it and wanted it to be "The Last" - told me so himself! No I give thanks for everything thta happens in my life and when I wrote that post I was a bit tired and stressed from work and realizing that my 47th birthday just hit and I haven't achieved all of the things that I want to and when you have Madonna, Prince, Alec Baldwin, Sharon Stone and many others were born in 58 - so pardon my Mid-Life crisis note.

Something mate, in all this banter. Something to show a shred of what you're saying is true, Sterling.
I think you'll find that feedback to anything more than smoke and mirrors would be quite positive.
Otherwise, I've heard enough.
