Firstly Hello all it's great to see such helpful people around. Now for what I really need.

I am looking into buying a Indy style hat and don't know what to pick. I want something that looks good but will also last through some adventures. I have narrowed it down to 2 hats. Either...

Style: 036 "Indiana Jones Hat"
http://www.millerhats.com/indiana.html

or

Akubra Federation
http://www.hatsdirect.com/cgi/products.cgi?view=59&returncat=Fedora+Hats&returnpage=0

I would like to know which one is better and why ? Also what make's the other one not so hot ?

Thanks in Advance.

Akubra Federation hands down. I have had mine for 1 ½ years now and it's awesome. I've woren mine in the forest, at the sea, in snow and rain. It's a bit tapered now but still holding up fine. Here's a couple of pics, about a month old (wearing my brand new Wested):

Ok I think I will go with the Akubra but I have a couple more questions. Do you have to replace the ribbon that comes with the hat ? I have heard that the ribbon that comes with the akubra is not the right size. And where could I purchase a replacement ribbon if I have to replace it ?

You don't have to change it. The ribbon is just fine when it comes. I modified mine just because I wanted. I took the triple crease out and moved a couple of stitches. Here's a good tutorial: http://dalexs.whitvani.net/hat/hatpage.html

Thanks for the help and advice. I now know that my quest for a hat will end with a Akubra.

How long does it take to recieve a hat from hatsdirect if using the fastest shipping method ?

For example if I order on Monday when will I recieve it. Bear in mind I live in the US so this would be an international order.

Probably just a couple of days. It took three weeks to get to Finland on the slowest shipping.

That is a really good looking hat, did you bash it yourself?

Nice pics, VP.

I'm pretty sure the Akubra comes plain, without the bash. Don't quote me though.

All Akubras come open crowned. You have to bash them yourself. It's really easy.
