Paden

After I’d attended some meetings at my workplace last month, in addition to becoming aware of some new developments at the church I attend, I knew that I might ultimately end up making a post like this. And so here I am, the recipient of some large, but exciting changes. Professionally, my responsibilities at the agency I’m employed with have shifted. It’s a very positive thing, not a negative one. The part of my work that I enjoy most involves being out in the field interacting directly with people and this alteration is going to enable me to do that far more often. I’m going to literally hit the ground running with it: this afternoon I’ve got a couple of appointments already lined up on my calendar. In addition, as many of you know, I develop scripts and other materials for the drama ministry at my church. The good news is that our church is experiencing a great deal of growth, but as a result I need to devote more of my writing time to scripts as that ministry becomes more active, as well as spending more hours at the church itself. Throw in the fact that I’m still toiling away at obtaining a Master’s degree via evening classes and striving to be a good husband and father, and you can see that Paden is becoming a pretty busy lad. ;)
My point being that with all these changes, my time for The Raven is going to essentially vanish. When I had more of a desk job, I could come visit this smoke filled saloon pretty regularly during the day. But now, my time at the computer is going to become fairly scarce, and what time I have is going to be, by necessity, devoted to other endeavors. So the downside is that I won’t be seeing much of The Raven after today. Please understand, my reason for posting this isn’t to be maudlin or dramatic, but the fact is that in the seven months that I’ve been posting here I’ve come to see many of the people here as friends, individuals that I look forward to exchanging ideas with each day. I’m sure that people come and go from message boards like this all the time, some signing off without realizing that life, responsibilities, or other interests are going to take them off in a new direction, one that doesn’t include a return visit to the online community that they’ve been part of for a time. But in my case, I knew it was coming, so I wanted to take a moment to tell everyone goodbye, rather than just vanish without a word. I’ve enjoyed talking with all of you about my favorite film series, speculating about the content of Indy IV (as well as wondering if it will ever be made), partaking of some of the amazing creative efforts of some of the members here, and being part of the chaos that inevitably takes place on the Off-Topic table. It’s a fun community to be part of and quite frankly, I’m going to miss it.
Vaya con Dios. Take care of the old place and be good to each other.

i didn't say nothing, ma'am. i referred to RF and i think he got the irony. i don't feel responsible for the reaction of anybody else. perhaps this special person could take this as an opportunity to learn not to interfere with the bilateral conversation of others because it might breed unfortunate misunderstandings. which, responsible or not, i am deeply sorry for and i hope i won't confuse indifan again.
so far no flaming, just happiness, no need to worry. hugs to you all, especially to indifan.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Violet Indy, but I'm not departing. This thread was begun many months back when a shift in job responsibilities kept me from making regular visits to the old saloon. Happily, while the changes kept me away for a few months, in the end result my responsibilities loosened enough to allow me to start visiting often once more.
And thanks for the belated "Welcome Back", Shorty. :)
<small>Strange coincidence, this thread appearing again when it looks like I may be looking at beginning a new job in the near future. How very odd. </small>

a new job in the near future sounds a bit like science fiction to me.
"no, I know; you *did* send me back to the future. but I'm back - i'm back *from* the future."
Would be fitting to flame a bit now? I mean it is a lame thread if it doesn't happen?

I suspect that major Indy news calls back Ravenites old and new, and others. Like a beacon or bat signal or something. High traffic instant reunions.

I'm actually more European than Australian, buddy so I'd watch it with the typical pure-blood Aussie stereotypes. I actually do get offended by that! We don't say 'blimey'! That's England and New Zealand you've got us mixed up with. We are ruder. We say 'bloody oaf' or 'bloody hell' or something that starts with 'bloody', like that ad, 'Where the bloody hell are you?' that the Canadians got offended by.

you mean you don't say "blimey" anymore. :) which indeed is correct but actually, every kid is saying something like "bloody" nowadays so that's not very unique.
and actually i don't mind you getting offended, this wasn't supposed to flatter you ;)

There's a lot of things that I could say to you, Jay. But, in the end, I would just ike to point out the fact that I am the great-granddaughter of a man who received the Iron Cross. And at least, the people of Australia weren't stupid enough to follow a screwed up ex-artist to perform a genocide and invade Poland without a declaration of war.
What do you know about Australia, Jay? You think you know better than someone who's live here all her life? You probably do, and I don't give rats. I'm not extremely offended anyway, lots of Aussies make fun of the fact that I am Italian-Hungarian and make fun of my last name coz it's sooooo complicated. Europeans accuse me of being Australian and Australians accuse me of being a 'wog' (a nasty nickname for European).

the people of australia weren't but your great-grandfather was? ;) you've successfully regained your honor. which glorious war your great-grandfather earned his cross in?

seems like everybody hates you. :p come on, violet... don't you think you are taking this a tiny little bit too seriously? if i'd freak out like this every time somebody makes jokes about my nationality, i already would have committed suicide. so take it easy, will you? besides i visited australia and i liked it much.

My great-grandfather also hid Jews as well, so technically he didn't follow. He was awarded the Iron Cross by Hitler himself just because he blew up a lot of Russian tanks. He also was a POW who escaped from a Russian POW camp.
And if I was freaking out, these posts would be a lot worse. And well, jokes about my nationality have happened all my life and all around me. Australia can be a racist country sometimes. It took my Dad 20 years and back arthiritis to get a better paid job to support his family, just because his workplace is rascist. Even though he has sold millions of dollars worth of equipment to big clients. Now, the Americans are selling off the Australian branch, just when my Dad finally gets a better worklife. Who knows what will happen next? I just hope our American bosses have enough integrity to give something back to those who have given much. Anyway, this part of my post is just a worry I have for my Dad.
I don't freak out about racist jokes all the time. I just don't like it when someone outside of Australia uses stereotypes and associates them with me. I'm sorry if I've been too rough on you. I'm just not happy living in Australia.

Thats all have to say on that. Well I do actually: when I lived in the Uk I heard many Londoners use the word 'blimey' and have never heard it said in New Zealand unless its spoken by an ex-patriat
